I just got a used snes console on ebay (I don't know to much about them). It didn't come with anything else so the controllers and powerbrick are 3rd party recreations. I have three games from a thrift store: Donkey Kong 1&2 and Zombies ate my parents. Okay, now that you know what I'm working with let me explain what happened: I plug in Z.A.M.P. and parts across the screen are tinted heavily green (not the issue I need help with at the moment) the title cards for konami and lucasarts show and then they begin to cycle through again (if I press the start button they just cycle through again also). I then plugged in the two donkey kong games and the same thing happened: nothing. No title cards or anything; the only thing noticeable was that the screen was still discolored. And now that you know what happened, my questions boil down to the following: -Could it be that the 3rd party controllers aren't working, the games, or is it the system itself? -Does anyone know whats wrong or can point me in the right direction to trying to figure out what is wrong? -If it is in fact the console, should i try to get it repaired or just chuck it and buy a working one? Your help will be appreciated.

Chuck it and get a new one. If all 3 games don't play right it's the system. Your always taking a chance when buying older gaming stuff. SNES's have been around for 20 years so your gonna come across bad games and systems.

I actually haven't heard of this problem. I'd try cleaning your cartridges and and cartridge reader with some Q-tips LIGHTLY dipped in rubbing alcohol. Give them time to dry, and try again. If they still don't work, then you probably need a new SNES console.

Definitely try what Emerald said. If that doesn't solve the issue check the rating on your power supply. You said that your power supply is third party that could also be the problem. The SNES requires a power supply with a rating of DC 10v 850mA the mA can be over 850 but not under. There are tons of third party power supply's that don't have the correct rating. Especially ones that are marketed for multiple systems.

The powersupply is rated for 1000 milli amps, It's one of those retcon brand dual power supplies (can power nes also, have used it to that effect and that works fine.)

Thats your prob, those ac adapters suck. The always have like enough juice for a NES or Genesis (w.e. extra plug they add) but the SNES doesnt get enough power. You really need to find that 10v 850mah adapter. The official Nintendo one if possible but Ive used some white and blue Radioshack ones I found on Amazon.

I assume you mean Retron, 1000 mA should be fine. The NES takes takes a 9V power supply SNES 10V. So if the adapter is 9V that could be the problem. European Pal SNES's actually do take 9v power supply's so I think that has something to do with why so many of them aren't the correct ratings. If you have a friend who has a SNES i recomend that you have him try it out for you before you go buying new adaptors.

The retron is rated for 10v and I don't have any friends with an snes that are in the state, otherwise i'd do that

Frickin' hell... everytime I clean out the machine either with blowinging or with dabbing alchohol it'll let me get so far as the character select screen and then it resets. Also just before it resets there is that dead silence when something looses power, but there is no actual indication of a power loss.

Hmm still could be the power supply. SNES's are notoriously picky when it comes to third party power supply's. I guess that leaves you with one of two options. Return it or try another adapter. Maybe if there is a video game store near where you live that deals in retro video game stuff. They might be willing to test it for you, if you tell them you'll buy the adapter from them if it works. Besides that I don't know what else to tell you.

Thank you for you help. I'll have to try that, at least to prove whether or not it is the system itself. It annoys me to make the trec there but if anything I should to at least return the power supply I bout from them.

Your best to clean both the system and games. If that fails buy another SNES.

Took the system in to have it looked at, turns out the plastic cylinder that separates the two prongs inside the plug of the snes is missing, so that seems to be the issue. I either have to replace the cylinder or hardwire the power adapter into the system.
