I agree that they have no right to tell us what to buy, but last time I read, they were just adding a label pointing out the content, not banning video games. I really don't see the harm it does to the gaming community.

Metamania

That's a secondary thing they are doing. Their main concern was making sure they couldn't sell to minors and that's a HUGE no-no.

Which is pointless because retailers already prevent that.

The real problem with limiting sales is that, in the event that somehow someone does sell a violent game to a minor, the retailer would be fined. Because of that, stocking games carrying the 18+ sticker wouldn't be worth it, which would significantly affect the developers' ability to profit off their works, which then gives little incentive to make games featuring anything more than an absolutely minimum of violence. That limits their creativity. Not a good future for the industry.

Like all here, I'm glad it was overturned. I'm curious about the reasoning behind being able to restrict minor's access to pornography though, given this ruling. Is it free speech or not?

I'm with you IDeedItDaBest. I'm no super concerative or anything but these products sould not be in the hands of small children. Its dumb to allow kids acces to these games... period.I'm not with this 18 and up crap now, but 16+ and your good to go IMO.I tire of hearing schreechy voices as I play my very much adultshooters.

I blameignorant parents most. Its funny how some wont let their kids watch a rated R movie, but will let them play GTA for hours a day... Dumb.

The mods responses suprise me the most...

So we should start restricting the material and fining retailers instead of telling parents to be more responsible? Can't say I agree with that. It's not the retailers responsibility to raise our kids, or the courts, or the game developers. Most retailers already check for ID for M-rated games. This is 100% voluntary. It's to help the parents out. Now some people want to fine them for it when they slip up?

I'm definitely glad to hear this. Honestly, the ultimate decision for a youth to buy a violent game is up to the parents.

What does being 'super concerative' have to do with anything? There are conceratives who plead for the nanny state to save society from itself and there are conservatives who don't wany the state to mandate how they live and believe the key to saving society is in free individuals making smarter choices.

Also, your belief that running around shooting people is 'very much adult' is kind of hilarious (and probably indicates youth and insecurity). Its essentially what kids have done with toy guns and water guns pretty much since the gun was invented. I'm 37 and I love shooters but I don't suffer under the delusion that shooters are 'adult'. The gore, violence and language makes them unsuitable for small children, but they are nothing most teens can't handle (on a related note, teenagers are one of the biggest audiences for action movies).

There is nothing wrong with any us. Just because we've got a different opinion doesn't mean you need to be hostile.

It's just like you've all been manipulated to think that this was about banning games, the same way you're all manipulated into thinking Glenn Beck is lying to you so that you won't listen to all his points. How can your "opinion" be that you want 10 year olds to be able to walk into a store and buy whatever they want?

Well, not only is Glenn Beck is a liar, but he's also mentally unstable. I know because I have watched a show or two of his before just to see what the fuss is about with that guy. I know it's a bit off topic, but I thought I would mention this first. But anyway, I do agree with you that some people are making too much of a fuss about this. It wasn't like they were gonna ban games, but restrict minors from getting them. However, I am not very comfortable with the Government regulating who the games go to and who doesn't, rather than the parents.
