I love the tales series! From the skits, to the story, to the battle system, and the characters! I mean I love final fantasy too, but alot of times I get bored half way threw, or I get stuck o a boss and just stop playing.

Tales Of series never lets me down though xD

Final Fantasy because I couldn't get past Symphonia's horrid pacing and Final Fantasy, for the most part, has great pacing in the story. Also, I found the battle system in tales boring after playing Star Ocean.

im a big fan of ff 1-7, after that they went drastically downhill in entertainment quality for me. i'd rather explore hidden sidequest places with loot and side stories than run around an area and "collect 50 _____" or "capture 10 _____" or "kill 10 ______" just to upgrade something. dodge lightning 200 times? i can tell you where to stick that lightning....

Exactly how I feel about FFX's sidequests. It's like they weren't even trying.

When the sidequests start to undermine the game itself, you've got a problem. I didn't bother with any of that crap and just haste/doublecast/ultima'd my way through the end of the game.

I suppose since Tri-Ace develops the Tales games now, I could give them a shot. Tales appears to be Star Ocean without the space portion and full of more cliches to go with some irritating anime art st-yle. As long as the gameplay is top notch, I can overlook a surprising amount of flaws. FF isn't really anything special. Outside of VI and VIII, the rest of the series can die off for all I care.

Tough call, but I think in the end Final Fantasy wins in versatility overall. Nonetheless there are masterful Tales games out there.

I just saw this. Tales Of Symphonia could only beat any FF to put him in front. Everyone has their taste, but calling a mediocre series so well made, with memorable games like ToS, Tov, TOA and even ToP is just stupid, sorry, but I could not help saying. Gameplay, epic stories and especially characters. That's all I had to say ...

I had to think about this. PSX-era Final Fantasy could beat all of the Tales of series. But Tales of Symphonia was one of the best RPGs I've ever played. Tough call.

FF games are more 'grand/epic' in scale and their 'best' is better IMO. Tales games are more fun to actually play though (gameplay), but their stories are generally not as good. I guess FF b/c I have only hated one FF game (8). Tales of Legendia and abyss were both balls

Final Fantasy is way better. However I'm not liking the way it's going now with XIII and XIII-2.

Tales series by far. No contest.

Final Fantasy has lost steam as of late. I really don't like the new battle system in FF XIII / XIII-2.

Even though they revamp the battle system in every Final Fantasy game and every Tales game has had almost the same battle system (With some additions and tweaks), the Tales series is overall, a lot more fun.

There's no need for them to implement a completely new battle system, the one they've been using is SO MUCH FUN! And that battle system is what makes the Tales series better.

Even though they use the same battle system, it feels different in each game. In each sequel, they add on and modify enough so that it's still just as fun, but feels like a new experience.

(Tales of the Abyss is my favorite in the Tales series.)

(Final Fantasy X is my favorite in the Final Fantasy series.)

Good Gof FF is sometimes ok but Namco is ne of the 3 Jrpgmakers that needs to stop. in that regard they cannot make games period. Tales is badly written, slow as hell gameplay, slow as hell pacing, terribly lazy animations, and a bunch of ther thing. FF is not that good itself but it actually has PLAYABLE games. Of course all my opinion.

Tales series just because I have alot of catching up to do since beating the two Symphonias and Vesperia. Played the PSX/PS2 FFs to death. XII doesn't exist.

Final Fantasy, personally. I find the Tales games to be a bit too light-hearted generally. The only Tales game I can say I've really, really enjoyed was Vesperia.

I have not played enough of both really to fairly judge.

I have beat ToS and ToV and am a few hours into TotA (3DS)

I have got to the end of FFX (didn't beat it), played a decent amount of FFVII, and dabbled in a couple others.

I say the Tales series, but I need to play more to judge. I have FFXIII which I want to try sometime just to say I have. Tales of The Abyss so far is not as good as ToS or ToV.

Though Baten Kaitos > both :) haha. They are all great series though.

Final Fantasy is much better.

Sure, Tales has funner, more enaging combat, but it is much more cookiecutter overall. Final Fantasy has better stories, better aesthetics (visuals and music), better characters, more interesting scenarios. It's just a richer experience overall. That FF can be so superior (IMO) while having the weaker gameplay just speaks to how much better a package it is.
