Does anyone know how good the extended service plan that Target offers is?   If anyone has used it before I'd like to know if it's worth the $59 price for my PS3 purchase I plan on making.   The plan is through some 3'rd party company and I know some of those companies are pretty lousy for making exchages/repairs of high-end electronics.  Thanks.

Personally I have always thought they're rackets (hence the need for staff to try to badger customers into taking them up) and would only really see the expense as justified if you're buying a launch console when you may have reason to doubt the components/build quality.

Take this from someone who works at Target in the Electronics department.

One thing I've always hated is pushing the Red Card, and the 3-year Service Plan on people. But think about this.

If something happens in the next THREE years, you can call our hotline, and if they can't fix it, you get a brand new PlayStation 3.

So then also think of the cost. $59 over the course of three years? That's NOT that much.

I, personally, recommend it. Do you trust the next gen systems worth $600 yet?
