Tell me every major thing you know, like the characters etc. The first FF game I played was advance and I thought it was great. I got XXII but the DVD got messed. So please tell me about the characters and everything so I am prepped for the new one.

Common knowledge is common.karriston
it really isn't unfortunately
seriously check the final fantasy wikipedia page. theres some repeated enemies (imps and wolves for example) cid is a recurring character in every ff after the second one iirc. gilgamesh is in the latter half of the series (ff 8 or 9 iirc) other than that the games are all pretty much different.
FFX and FFX-2 are the only games that follow each others. But if you put these aside FF1,FF2,FF3,FF4,FF5,FF6,FF7,FF8,FF9,FF12 are all different plot/world/character.
If you want a good view of them start with FFIV/V/VI they are, in my opinion, the best ones.
Note that FFVI is FFIII on SNES and FFIV is FFII on SNES.

almost every final fantasy is a seperate game. Other then a few common elements, each one could technically be given it's own name.

So no character repitition? Different plots every time?
Exactly. There are a lot of recurring themes, enemies and what not. But the main characters and plots are seperate and none of the games take place in the same world (except for the fact that IV and X have their own sequels, and VII has a lot of spinoff titles and a prequel...and a sequel movie)
Honestly if you are interested in the series, go to Wikipedia or a Final Fantasy wiki. You said you don't want to read a lot but there's really no way for a few Gamespot users to put the entire series in a nutshell and convey a proper understanding of what you're looking for.
here's a brief(considering the length of the series) outline of Final Fantasy from a gameplay perspective:
Every Final Fantasy game is different. different story, different characters and differing gameplay methods.
That said, each game has a number of recurring elements such as the creatures
Moogles(furry bear-like beings with a sole pom-pom antenna),
Chocobos(large yellow birds that can be ridden to travel quickly) and a character called "Cid".
The appearance and role of each of these changes between games.
Graphics
- The first six games of the series have for the most part a "birdseye view" of characters and surroundings.
- From FFVII to FFIX, graphics consist mainly of fully rendered characters on 2d, prerendered backgrounds.
- Full 3d environments were introduced with Final Fantasy X are are still in use.
- {an exception to the series trend is in FFXI which is a MMORPG and thus differs in a number of ways}
Battles
-FFI-FFIII use a basic turn-based approach to battles
-FFIV-FFVII and ffIX use a turn-based Active Time Battle system(a small bar builds up over time and when its full you can attack/cast a spell/etc)
-FFVIII makes use of a customised battle system based on summoning creatures
-FFX uses a turn based battle system based on various conditions (including player speed, status effects, etc)
-FFXI-FFXII battles take place in the game overworld and "random encounters" to not occur
Hope this helps a bit.;)

DOT GET THE TREASURE outside old dalans house in LOW TOWN in rabanaster. The reason for this is there are certain treasures you cant get if you want to get the best weapon in the game "zodiac spear" I cant really rememeber where the other chests are but I know the first is out side old dalans house.
I suggest looking up the other locations online;
