I put together a list of The 25 PS2 Games I've Enjoyed the Most and I thought it would be worth sharing, as it does seem to start some interesting discussions.

I should note the following:

1. I am not the fan of RPGs I once was, so games from this genre will be noticeably absent.

2. I know this list isn't definitive and I am not claiming it is.

3. I have the expectation that there are games that are on my list that very few people would put on their top 25 list.

I'd love to know what you think.

I am extremely disappointed in that list. You had some pretty good games, but I was devastated to see MGS3 as #11. And you didn't even put in MGS2 or Final Fantasy X (and I'm well aware that you said you didn't like RPG's anymore. Same with me, but I love that game).

And I could only choose one game from the MGS saga for the list, so I picked 3 over 2.

Oh, ok. Good, because 3 is a lot better than 2, but they're both amazing :D

I know it's your personal opinion and all, but that list isn't even close to representing the general PS2 public's opinion, if that was your purpose.

I think having something like Urban Chaos:Riot Response on the list while snubbing games that appear on nearly every list of this kind (God of War immediately comes to mind) makes any effort on my part to make a list that fit with critical consensus unlikely.

Interesting list. I could not agree more with #1. I think it was the only game i got for PS2 within a month of it coming out. It's up there as one of my top 5 games ever, on any platform.

I was a bit disappointed not to see Gran Turismo 3 or 4 on the list, or God of War I or II. Or THPS3 or 4. But i guess you're the list maker and it's your list. I would have had MGS2 over MGS3 though, but i haven't found many of my friends to agree with me there

On the PSX, I was such a fan of Gran Turismo and its sequel (I have one of the original printings of the latter, the one with the garage erasing bug that they fixed with a patched version of the disc), but by part 4, I was a little fatigued by the franchise. It still has its enjoyable moments for me, but the feeling is a little different now.

And I didn't really connect with God of War in the way a lot of other people did. It was good, but it didn't take hold as one of my favorite games.

I was surprised to see Secret weapons over Normandy and, indeed, Urban Chaos on there. Iirc those games got pretty mediocre scores.

And disregard that previous comment, I was too fatigued to notice it clearly said 'The 25 PS2 Games I've Enjoyed the Most'.

Its nice to see a list that isnt the same carbon copy of all the other ones you see.

Got some nice games on there.

Some great choices there...and nicely outside of the status quo. I agree about Urban Chaos. Yeah...it may be yet another FPS, but I enjoyed it a great deal. More so than some other hyped FPS's like Red Faction.

Well done on that list very well written and i enjoyed it alot, but the games you had chosen i wouldn't of put them anywhere near my top list of PS2 games. As you said though it was your own personal list so good on you.

PetJel: The fact that the list was dubbed The 25 Best PS2 games I've Ever Played original, so your criticism is more than valid.

Maxx1458 and Joystick_n_hand: Thanks for the compliments. I think the reason that there are less of the usual choices is likely due to the fact that the list is the work of one person rather than a team of people, so they come to a consensus about what they feel is the best, so there is very little room for some of the games that might be just outside of those lists.

Roulettethedog: To each their own.

Timbury: And I totally understand that, and I expected it to be a list that may not represent everyone's taste or gaming preferences.

As an Xbox-only gamer (at this point) there are some games on your list about which I cannot comment. However, some I can:

#25-21

  • Star Wars: Battlefront II -- Great game, though I need to add both of them to my collection.
  • Def Jam: Fight for NY -- I played it briefly, but I couldn't get into it. I'll be going back to try it again, though.
  • TOCA Race Driver 3 -- Haven't played, though I did play part of RD2. I'm not into simulators as much.
  • Mercinaries: Playground of Destruction-- I really, really want this game.
  • Brothers in Arms: The Road to Hill 30 -- One to add to my collection.

#20-16

  • Secret Weapons over Normandy -- One to add to my collection.
  • Sly Cooper 3: Honor Amongst Thieves -- One of the reasons that I need to get more consoles.
  • ATV Offroad Fury 4 -- One to add to my collection.
  • Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Aresenal -- One of the reasons that I need to get more consoles.
  • Red Dead Revolver -- Bought it a month or so ago, but it's still wrapped.

#15-11

  • Guitar Hero II -- Not really an interest for me.
  • Disgaea: Hour of Darkness -- One of the reasons that I need to get more consoles.
  • Hitman: Blood Money -- I have Silent Assassin, but I'm not very good at the sneaking games.
  • James Bond 007: Everything or Nothing -- My favorite Bond game of the past console generation.
  • Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater -- One of the reasons that I need to get more consoles.

#10-6

  • Urban Chaos: Riot Response -- I just bought it a couple of days ago, and I'm trying to finish a couple of games I'm working on so I can start it. I'm really looking forward to playing the game.
  • Marvel: Ultimate Alliance -- I started it, but I didn't get very far into it.
  • Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War -- I've never really played a flight-sim, so I don't know.
  • TimeSplitters: Future Perfect -- I played it for a while, but I quit when I got to the zombies.
  • Bully -- One of the reasons that I need to get more consoles.

#5-1

  • SOCOM: US Navy SEALS-- One of the reasons that I need to get more consoles.
  • Burnout 3: Takedown -- Another one I really want.
  • Resident Evil 4 -- One of the reasons that I need to get more consoles.
  • Katamari Damacy -- One of the reasons that I need to get more consoles.
  • Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas -- Honestly, I preferred III and VC to SA, but they are all pretty good.

It took a long time for me to finally get sold on the Guitar Hero franchise... but my resolve finally broke earlier this year.

I noticed someone asked if Bully was worth buying recently and the consensus here was entirely positive.
