This isn't even a contest for me: Metroid Prime. The game was awe-inspiring when it came out and is the game that convinced me to get a GameCube. Such amazing graphics, sound-effects, music, and atmosphere in that game.

+1 to Metroid Prime. I remember playing the demo in Circuit City when it first came out and my jaw was on the ground the whole time. Eventually I got it shortly after getting a gamecube. Not only were the visuals impressive for the time, but the weapon system was genius and the environment was incredibly immersive. Then later on, the addition of different dimensions.. Awesome experience. Now I feel like playing through the game over again, probably via emulator this time around though.

It isn't. In a shooter, the shooting is the primary mechanic of the game. Prime is an action/adventure game with minor platforming and shooting elements, but just because of the camera perspective it gets labeled a first person shooter. That isn't any more correct than labeling Mega Man a third person shooter or God of War a platformer just because the former is third person and has guns while the latter has a few platforms to jump around on. The central mechanics of the game are still very much the same as they were in Super Metroid; only the perspective has changed. To answer the topic, Metroid Prime and Wind Waker.

Metroid Prime and Resident Evil 4, easily, two of the greatest games of all time. Star Fox Adventures and Prince of Persia tSoT are also great too.

Resident Evil 4. The best game of its generation and my favourite game ever, besides of course Valkyria Chronicles 2. Dead to Rights comes pretty close, though. The graphics weren't so good, but the plot was amazing. And having a dog was so cool :D
