Xenogears is stuffed, its pretty pretentious and convoluted...its not bad, it is just not an all time RPG great. texasgoldrush
I figured you had gained a bit of a reputation here and now I see why. I don't think you honestly believe what you just typed there. This is nothing more than cheap heat, IMO. If you didn't like the game, that's one thing, but to deny Xenogears' place among the all-time greats is an opinion I'm more than willing to call wrong.
I liked the game, but the fact of the matter is that it divides people, which does keep it from all time greatness. It is a fact. Having a convoluted plotline is the biggest reason why. The game is known for its convoluted plot. I have even heard fans of the game say that. Face it, the game is love it or hate it....and I am actually in the middle.http://www.ugo.com/games/japanese-games-that-made-no-sense/?cur=xenogears&morepics=1 and hakanakuomo needs to read Cormac McCarthy's The Road........not a very deep story (they don't even tell you how the apocoplypse came about), but that book has not only won awards, but it is considered one of the greatest novels ever written. As I keep telling him, you only need as much depth as needed to tell the story, which in the Road's case was the relationship between father and son. That was all its depth.
Depth and complexity are needed, but unnecessary complexity does drag the story down. Thats what I have been trying to tell you. You have to strike a balance. Too little depth can cause plot holes, but so can too much. When you add unecessary depth, sometimes the depth isn't completed, which can confuse the audience and open upa plot hole or the story can collapse on itself.
