my vote goes to System shock 2 (which ironicly is very bright graphically).
It is a game where you feel Isolated, alone, always scavanging to stay alive, With the world crashing down around you, and your only friendis the voice records left by long dead crew members.
The thing that make me say SS2 tho, is because of the enemies. Normally an enemy means nothing to me at all, theyre a target, a thing to be put down as fastand brutal as possible.
But it really got to me how these... "creatures" still retained some of thier brain funktions, and emotions.
When they plead you to run away, because they do not control thier bodys anymore, how they begged to be killed, and how some of them just lost thier sanity.
I have never seen or heard that in a game before or since. And it may have something to do with me specificly thinking that that single fact of not beingthe one controling your body, is just about the single most scary thought to me.
Honerably mentions go to: CoC: Dark Corners of the Earth, Realms of the haunting, Silent Hill, and Manhunt.
