The Godfather 2 : how to remove bonuses?

Started to play The Godfather 2 a couple of days ago (really love this game, Gamespot is biased as hell) and I got the brass knuckles bonus. I can't remove them, and I know that after taking over a specific crime ring, you get a bulletproof vest. The vest would look lame as hell on a suit, so can you remove it?

Bomb the bussiness or kill the owner is the only way I know of right now.
