The Greatest Game Intro Sequence ever? (With videos)

I was watching a few videos lately and two really stood out to me. But I want to know what are the best intros in videogame history? Try and post videos where you can.

Twilight-princess when I first saw this, shivers went up and down my spine. It mimicked the opening of Ocarina of time and yet promised so much more. It was later paired with it's own bombastic trailer.

Odin-Sphere has some of the most beautiful 2-D graphics ever seen and the operatic score and flourishes really set off the intro sequence.

No-more-heroes on the Wii has the coolest intro video I have ever seen, the voice over, the geekiness, the reference to old words that used to be used in the 50s, the lightsabers, the killer aspect paired with that theme tune that changes from jazz to funk and back all combine to excellent effect.

How about...

Sam & Max: HittheRoad - Intro The Lucasarts graphic adventures were some of the first games I played that included full speech on their fancy new cd-roms.

Cybernator - Intro Epic space based action, remarkable considering the SNES and it's graphics and sound limitations.

SEGA-CD 'FinalFight CD' Intro Voice acting :? Haggar sounds like a nerd?

supermario64intro That music, that pan around, this was like the worlds introduction to 3-D gaming.

Star Wars - X-Wing - Intro hahaha, the music but seriously I love this ****of 2-D cutscene, I wish more games used it - including full speech.

Ohh forgot to say why :P! It was mind blowing when I first saw it and it still feels great because of the memories!

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City - perfectly sets the stage for probably the most stylish game ever created.

Homeworld 2 - fantastic music, great writing and voice acting.

Mafia - fantastic intro that could've been easily mistaken for an HBO series or something.

Manhunt - nothing special really, but I love how it gets you pumped up for killing.

F.E.A.R. - pretty cool intro, I love the music and how some happenings take place off-screen.

Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition - Rockstar's irreverent sense of styIe makes even racing game intros to stand out.

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - awesome intro for one of the most violent and atmospheric RTS games.

Katamari Damacy - cows, pandas, mushrooms, and a guy with a huge crotch = awesomeness.

Shadow of the Colossus - an incredibly moving intro, it lets you know you're in for something truly special.

The Warriors - yeah, it's pretty much the same as the movie, but it's still fantastic.

Silent Hill 1

I have to add that one because it was good and creepy!

Awesome list so far with some of my faves. A few more:

Warcraft III: Frozen Throne: Just so badass

Suikoden III: Very epic, when I saw it the first time it pretty much blew me away

Kingdom Hearts: I love the music and graphics

Final Fantasy X: Everything about this is just so gorgeous

Super Smash Bros. Melee: I love the way it runs through all the characters in the game and gives them each their little intro, and the sequence itself is as frenetic as the game

Oooo. I loved that one. Really. The junction system sucked, and I hated Zell, but that intro sequence made up for anything else.

Haven't played the game but I really like the overall atmosphere and drama/emotion.

Argh some of your links aren't working :evil: and I lost a post because of it. I was saying that the manhunt intro has really great john carpenter-esque music, that it was a blast watching the vice city intro once more. That the FF8 intro seems weird, that Soul calibur has a great intro

Just a question, but is anyone other than me actually going to watch the videos people are linking?? The shadow of the colossus intro kind of bored me, I checked out the Okami intro but it has freaky voices, worse than banjo, at least banjos muddled garb didn't freak me out :cry:

I watched some, just didn't comment. I think Shadow of the Colossus blows Twillight Princess which is similar - just ugly and boring. No More Heroes is great, but the music is kind of disappointing when compared to the trailers. The original Fallout is awesome.

FF7 (i am including everything up to blowing up the first reactor here.....personally i consider that the entire intro sequence even though its playable).

FF8 (great intro....shame the game took a nose dive :( ).

zelda: MM (i like it...really relaxing until they shown the big flippin moon. that thing still freaks me out).

RE4 (including everything up to the first big fight in the village whre the title pops up after it....great way to start the game)

As some have already mentioned, definitely Fallout...the intro remains one of the best to this day, who can forget the line "War...War never changes. Also mentioned by other people that I would definitely agree with is Mafia, I also loved this opening because it felt like the opening of a great hollywood film, and of course the opening music is probably the best I've heard in a game....and Shadow of the Colossus, Like UpInFlames said, an incredibly moving intro. It is emotional and even better it serves the purpose of providing the player fully with the opening of the story without a word being said.

I would also like to add.....

Resident Evil 2 - At the time it was literally the best intro I had ever seen in a console game, and next to Fallout, the best introy in a game overall.

Diablo II - I thought it was a really cool intro. In a way it finished the finalizes story from the first Diablo while beginning the story that sets the stage of Diablo II. Blizzard really knows how to make cool cinimatics.

Silent Hill - The guitar song still sticks with me, it was creepy and haunting at the same time...added by the text that opens the intro "the fear of blood tends to create fear for the flesh".....as soon as that intro started I knew I was in for a creepy yet memorable experience....I also liked how it provided the opening backstory as well as what was in store for the player over the music.

Mechwarrior 2 - *sigh* What a great series this was, and what a cool opening for the time.

Heavy Gear - Another battletech game with a cool intro.

Resident Evil remake - Very well done remake intro, especially for the time.

Dammit, Robync beat me to Mechwarrior 2. Ah well!

Thief: The Dark Project and Thief 2: The Metal Age are two of my favorites.

The original Baldur's Gate intro is also good, especially considering its age! Same with the ol' Diablo intro.

And although I've never played the game itself, the Warhammer: Mark of Chaos intro is really, really well done.

DMC3- this intro reaks of awesomness

Guilty Gear XX- awesome music, great animation, and over all very cool

Chrono Cross- one of the best game songs ever, and it really gets you into the mood for the game

Psi-Ops -a veryunder rated game, the intro is very cool

I think MGS2 has the best one, FFVIII and SH1 are other great examples.

But this is the king, nothing can beat the awe insipring graphics and acting of this absolute classic.

I also really liked the Chrono Cross intro., that little collage of in-game sequences, that amps you up before you hit start to play. It still gives me uplifting-chills when I see it today.

Other ones that impressed my socks off was the Onimusha 3one (as some noted already), and I'm not sure if anyone else mentioned this, but I LOVE the intro GC movie to the Final Fantasy III DS. Awesome, amazing, inspiring stuff. Music was great as well.

I also liked the intro to Star Wars Episode On~ *I mean* Final Fantasy XII. :P

And Tales of Symphonia's animated intro was cool as well.
