Its one of those topics butas the consoles get better, so to speak, are the games getting better. I can recall over the last 3 years some of the worst gaming moments ive ever experienced and im a guy who was playing ataris at the age they were targeted at. 7 ish.

I want this to be a thread which analyses the current games we are playing. What has been the worst game you have played over the last few years.

For me the all time worst for me was Lair.

I can remember waiting for e3 and all the game conventions and looking at how they presented this game. Mouth watering aint the word. Although i must say the production values of the game are up there butwhat was the point of that mammoth spend of money whensome of the top spotters at the momentcost 3x less. The gameplay was shockingly bad, controls were . . .well i think the less said the better. Ive recently put this game back in the system and really tried to make it work for me. The good news was that soon enough you got used to it, bad news is, ill never play the game again.

Games which are following this (bar shovelware which im not counting as they fit their purpose and probably make more revenue than they expect) are Hour of victory, Metal gear solid 3(email me for reasons if you really want, I didn't like it) and Haze. Just as a contrast the best, Oblivion, Halo3, Wipeout, Fallout, Forza 2, Gears 2, Punchout and Dead Space.

pretty easy.

For me it is Far Cry 2, the gameplay mechanics are really not well thought out (like doing the same exact mission 5-10 times to get a weapon you want).

It is overly repetitive, the respawning is a pain, and the story is somewhat skizofrenic, in execution (not a bad story in itself, just the execution).

The thing about FC 2 is that the game sounds so darn awesome, and when you play it, you can see the very good things about the game underneath the poor design.

The gfx engine is solid, sound aint bad, physics are allright, and thus it frustrates me even more that they had such an opputunity to make a really incredible game, but fell so short. I really wanted to like the game :\

In the end I hoped this would be a more polished, brighter STALKER like game, but no, it was anything but. The gamelength is stretched artificially, The illness (while I do get the political point they were making) is a pain, the same 4 missions over and over, and having to drive across the map all the time, it baffled me that each mission were as FAR away from you as humanly possible, and the monotonus respawning checkpointswere a pain in the end.

Bottom Line, It is the worst game I playied this gane, because it had the potential to be one of the best, butthey dropped the ball onsome of themost important things in a game

As you mention that i suddenly remembered Ghost Recon 2. Got a lot of buzz, everyone playing it but my opinion was it was all looks over play. Trying to play that game on the really hard settings was more of a chore than a game in the fact you died from nowhere and there wasnt a blind thing you could do about it . . apart from getting a mate in to help. Games shouldnt be designed like that. Recently ive played through the Gears 2 campaign on hardcore. Man that game was stupid hard but its not that my tactics were rubbish i blame it on the clunky, slow control and the unfair extra health the enemys have and in the end i have to say i lucked out with 2 very good grenades that wiped out 5 (of which) elite mobs, with pure fire power i would never have won. Ghost recon was this X1000 in terms of an unhealthy increase in the accuracy of the AI + extra damage to the player. Id have to throw Ghost recon in there as well. Not to mention the undfair respawn system in multiplayer. these kind of mechanics dont work for me.

on console - Tomb Raider Underworld, its got so many glitches and bugs, it became really annoying (including plenty of game killing glitches)

on PC - Red Alert 3...... its not good, and I found it to be very boring

Yeah, Lair was pretty bad. They should have just kept more in line with the star wars gameplay... Sacred 2. The game is crap. It's generic, boring, marred with technical problems... But it's still fun to play with your friends.

Agreeing with Ghost Recon 2 here, I was really hyped about the game when everyone was playing the same maps over and over again in Rainbow Six: Vegas (the first) so I picked this up. I was very disappointed and couldn't get into the game at all. It seemed unnecessarily difficult and tedious to do anything in that game. Visually well done but just a bore to play

I can't say that I've bought an utterly awful game, though I've been in for a lot of disappointments and such. FOR NOW, I'd say Red Steel. I can't say that I hate or dislike this game, but I like pretty much every other game I've bought this gen a lot more than I like this one. RS's controls are okay. The swordfighting was a real big disappointment, though it's still somewhat acceptable for a launch title and appropiate for early Wii experimentation. The game itself suffered from problems that pretty much any other shooter could have suffered. Horribly linear, awful cutscenes, bad graphics that even the Gamecube puts to shame, etc. If it weren't for the satisfaction of pointing at the screen and shooting, Red Steel would really have nothing else going for it. It's another generic first person shooter, but with Wii controls. Plus, I've only bought this game recently, so it just feels a bit... wrong seeing that Wii FPS games have improved (bundled with NMH, so it's all good). At least the sequel looks promising now that Wii Motion Plus is involved. Honorable mentions: -Braid (AMAZING GAME, but it's so short, the price tag is almost criminal) -Far Cry 2 (Way, way too much driving ruins an otherwise decent shooter)

R6V was awesome online. The single player, not so much. I though COD3 was the worst game I played this generation. After COD2, playing COD3 felt like taking three steps back. What a pile of crap that was.

Ninja Gaiden 2 easily. I bought it thinking it would be good like NGB but I found broken mechanics, terrible camera, pathetic story, ridiculous characters, and unbalanced gameplay.

i was actually happy with too human, i enjoyed the game and because basically no one else liked it i got it for £22 a week after release.

the worst game i played was face breaker...the create a player was fun, what with the use of photos and such...but the fighting was terrible, there was no steady progression of difficulty it was just a constant struggle to win every battle, i like a bit of a challenge in my games but it really wasn't fun.

For me it's close between Far Cry 2 and Spore+Expansion. I did get Far Cry 2 for free so I'm going to have to say Spore was the worst game I bought so far this generation, sure there is a lot of content but it just isn't fun past a certain point.

The expansion for Spore did add a lot to the game as well but it honestly felt like it was made for children roughly around the age of eight or so, and I was faced with absolutely no challenge at all while playing Spore and the expansion.

I also found myself thinking about what could have been better about the game rather than what was good about it the majority of the time I was playing it. After beating once I uninstalled it right away and now it collects dust on the shelf :P .

MGS4. Cool at first, brought down by moronic A.I., absolutely terrible so-called "storytelling", irrelevant, overly elaborate cutscenes that were made worse by lack ofcompetent editing, and other small issues I won't get into here. Funny thing is, it's the reason I bought a PS3. Traded it in and have no regrets.

ill go with enchanted arms. the combat system was actually alright. however, the level design was utterly bland, the game looked ugly, i dont remember the music (cant be too bad then, but it certainly wasnt good), the story was dull, and the characters were nausiating. all in all, it was a fantasy world that was unintentionally nightmarish.

Dark Sector. The game just flat would not run correctly, even though my software was fully updated and my hardware exceeded recommended requirements.

Fortunately, I was able to obtain a refund from the store.:)

Iam going to have to go with RSV2,

The game is pretty ugly, mulitplayer felt like such a hassle to even get in a match.

Also I have given the game a lot of chances, I have played the game quite a bit and every time I turn of the console in disgust.

I loved MGS and MGS 3. The original is one of the better games I own. MGS4 was something I wished to play, not to watch. The ratio of movie to gameplay was ridiculous. Even if the story was well written and told in a comprehensible manner, it STILL would have been too long.

As for the worst game this gen, that's in my opinion of course (not speaking objectively, MGS4 is obviously not the worst). I tend to dislike it even more because it's so worshipped when such glaring obvious flaws are right there staring people in the face. Despite what all say, MGS4 is not perfect. It's not the worst game this gen, but it certainly isn't the best.

Mirror's Edge.

Honestly, the most self-indulgent piece of crap to come out the backside of 2008. It's mostly a case of the game being pretentious beyond belief - the dialogue, the cutscenes, the story, the art style, the theme tune... it just wasn't something I attached to like a lot of other people did.

The game is horribly frustrating to play as well. The controls to pull off some of the more complex moves are too fiddly for my liking. The level design also doesn't owe itself well to one of the basic concepts of the game: speed. Pits of doom, tricky hallways full of acrobatics and tight corridors do nothing to show off the excellent sense of inertia that the game can produce. It's a real shame, as I could sense some potential gleaming through the muddy soup that was Mirror's Edge.
