What sort of systems implemented in videogames do you hate? Here is my list of some things I get upset over:

-Health Regenerating System in Shooters

-Moments in Quests where you cannot travel to a previous location that is blocked forever

-Using a Potion in a Quest to only discover a rest stop in the very next Dungeon area.

-Saving all Potions and Items in a game for that final boss just to realized you never used them once you beat the game.

Feel free to add to the list of what makes you upset or dissapointed when you play videogames too.

manditory training modes. I don't necessarily mean games that start out slow, with only a few things to do, and then become more complex. I'm talking about games that literally make you go through it step by step, and teach you how to wal forwards, them pachwards, and then how to punch, dodge, etc. Not only are they absolutely no fun, but they tend to teach you techniques that you don't need to use. They make you play the game the way the developer envisioned it, rather than how you would actually have fun with it.

And time limits. Zerop Punctuation (as controversial as he is) hit the nail on the head in the Halo Wars review. Would completing the game in 20:01 instead of 20:00 really make you character die? Especially if you've already cleared all the enemies from the arena?

Walking of a ledge, because I want to test if it has an invisible wall. Also tutorials where they are split into sections, so I have to load each one by one..:(

One-Hit-Kills, seriously who likes that and why is it standard in shooters? Your in a jet, youd think it could take some damage.

Times when you have no idea what you are doing so your forced to go online and look.

Games that are so hard you have no chance of surviving. Might as well not even play.

Quick-Time-Event button combos.

Respawning enemies.

Strict Time Limits.

Escort missions are almost always bad. I like to save often, so games that make it rare or difficult to save are frustrating. Time limits also freak me out quite often.

Games that are too easy. Which means 90% of them. Simple puzzles. Bad AI. Bad graphics. Missions that involve you finding someone named Cortana.

I second a lot of these, including forced tutorials and rare save points, and also want to add inability to speed up/skip text and long, meaningless animations that are not skippable.

Escort Missions (hated those since TIE Fighter way back when)

Guile's Flash Kick (as used by the computer, with a 0 second charge timer)

The save system from the first 3 Resident Evil games (oh look a Save Point, 'bout time . . . damn, no Ribbon *sigh*)

Or, cutscenes that are at least skippable after being viewed once. Personally, I don't think any games should have cutscenes that should be skipped when they are first played, but if you are going through them again, then they should be skippable to get to the gameplay.

I'm gonna have to agree with people who say escort missions. The main reason? The AI is usually too stupid to follow you. If yo ugo at normal speed, the person you're escorting usually just stand there and gets lost. So you have to walk really, really slowly. And whe you walk that slowly, a million enemies come and attack you.

Unless they're willing to let you move PROPERLY and give the AI character some sort of intelligence, developers just need to do away with escort missions all together.

LOL I have to agree with Bury. Escort missions/quests are a pain in the ass if the AI is too stupid to do what you need it do and half the time they either end up dying or going somewhere that they don't need to go.

That works, too. I don't mind watching a cutscene once or twice, but it gets VERY tiresome after a while when losing to a hard boss alot.

I know excatly what your talking about with the GoW II thing. I tried my hardest to get past the part. I used all my magic and my rage of the titans power and still couldn't do it. Even let my brother and my cousin do it they couldn't do it either.

-Enemies that are focused only on the player, no matter how many team mates you have.

-Infinite spawning enemies that can be stopped only by running to the next checkpoint

-Perfect grenade aim, enemies throw 'nades at your exact location every 5-10 seconds

-Rocket-launchers that aren't powerful at all. (Its okay if they do that in multiplayer for balancing, but in single player against AIs i'm expecting a huge explosion)

-Extremely standard Weapons. Where are the creative and crazy weapons in most fps? Turok had so cool weapons but now the games mostly use a standard formular...

-Cheap & stupid AI. Enemies knowing always where you are and sometimes shooting directly at you even though your behind a wall (i recently saw this in UC2)

-Punching/melee thats stronger then bullets (also seen in UC2 and tons of other games)

-Useless AI team mates. They don't seem to get any kills at all, leaving you to do all the work. (Saw this in UC2 too, i was out of bullets in cover with two enemies in front and two team mates behind. They stood out in the open, shooting at the two enemies for like 5 minutes without killing anything.)

When in a game (LoZ:OOT Ice Temple) you need a certain ammount of keys to open all doors to get to a boss. I happened to use one key too many and messed up my entire save file. and ive never played that game again.

I hate it when games introduce that one single section or boss battle that is absolutely unfun and/or stupidly difficult compared to its adjacent components. I always just ask, "Did anyone actually play this part? What were they thinking?"

My most recent encounter with that that I can think of would be that unkillable monster in Dead Space who pops up now and again, where you just have to run in a circle and not die for like two minutes before the game will let you continue.

Um... There are the same number of silver keys as there are doors to be unlocked, I think. Actually, I'm pretty sure. It's a shame to give up on such a good game.

games like silent hill or perhaps dead rising that have super hard to reach savepoints. What if there's a family emergency? Whelp! Guess you're gonna have to rebeat that 20 min- an hour worth of playtime! I don't think so. More on the spot saving, please!

Checkpoints that are too far apart. I hate playing a game on the hardest difficulty and then dying at certain parts and having to go way back in the mission. Sometimes even to the start of the mission.

Bad save points, take Gears of War when you fight RAAM. The game saves in the train car before the car RAAM is on, so when you die you have to go around the current train car, pick up weapons and ammo, then go fight RAAM but not before a cutscene! Doing that multiple times is so frustratingly annoying. Why the hell couldn't the game save right before the RAAM fight so you could just load the game and be fighting RAAM in under a second?

QFT.

I remember the first time I played through that temple, I thought I was screwed too. But there are 1 or 2 keys that are really hard to find, so it's not that you ran out of keys, it's just you haven't found all of them yet.

Games with:

-No jumping

-Bad animation

-Stand still combat

-Unsatisfying weapons (usually grenades, launchers & mines all completley suck in most games)

-Bad voice acting (Oblivion...christ how can a superb game like that use only 6 voice actors?)

-Short campaigns.

-No quicksave

As angel has already mentioned, checkpoints that are poorly placed.

I despise trial and error more than anything. Two games that have recently been released had their fair share of them: Demon's Souls and Uncharted 2. The difference was that it was intentionally a part of Demon Soul's design whereas in U2 it was not. U2's environments blended in so well together and were so large at some points that it was very hard to know exactly where to go without first doing some experimental jumps to your doom before finding the exact path. It was still fun to watch and do though, especially with Doughnut Drake.

Demon's Souls was horrible, much of the gameplay revolved around it. "Oops, sorry 'bout that pit-o-death there friend, live and learn, eh? Maybe if your friend was online to leave a hint that it was there to help you survive and to cover up our lazy and cheap game design you'd still be alive, have all your souls, and still be playing our game." Same with the combat. I've never played a more infuriating game in all my years of playing.....well, almost.

Trial and error needs to die. There are no benefits, only cons.

TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Many Highest on my list of enraging moments at this time 1) FPS: Shoot a guy 30 times in the back and he turns around and kills u in one shot. Is it me vs God? in no other particular order: -Time/turn Limits -Limited Saves -Cheap AI to compensate for intelligent AI -Escort Missions -Fetch Quests -Button Mashing -Awful/Uneven Matchmaking (Why am I matched with somebody in the 90th prestige when I just started playing. Am I that damn good? No.) -Unforgiving games/game modes -Enemies that can't miss -Grenades Many more. I agree with most the things everyone else has mentioned

Escort missions, especially when the character is oblivious to any danger and keeps getting between you and the enemy.

Inconvenient save points. Life sometimes interferes and I hate repeating whole sections of a game because I had to get to work on time.

Getting stuck in scenery. If I can jump onto a crate I should be able to step onto a curb!

Yes. I had forgotten about this one. In the day and age of vast amounts of disc space (at least on the Xbox), there is no reason to only allow one or three save slots. If there is only room for fifteen or so, that's much better, but there needs to be more than a couple.

- Crappy Camera angles - OTT AI - Prototype - Helicopters flying through trees/flying into each other to get to the player character - i mean WTF - Rare Saves - Complex Button Combos - Bad Voice Acting - Bad Storylines It would appear a lot of games suffer from these problems. But what would the gaming world be without them.

I could do a wide spectrum sweep, but i feel more like just pointing to the one that is making me rage the most at the moment.

Which is heavily influenced by the fact that i'm playing GTA 4 right now.

* Checkpoints, Checkpoints, Checkpoints, Checkpoints, Checkpoints, that is all.

Instant kills, especially in RPGs. I really like the SMT games, but they are a prime offender for this.
