You say that this generation is probably the worst in gaming history, but it's interesting to note that every single game mentioned in your post is Japanese. Yes, Japanese games haven't evolved as well as their Western counterparts. In general, they tend to be overly tedious and way too restrictive.

Before anyone accuses me of bias, realize that I'm a person who's somewhat fond of Japanese culture, grew up watching anime, and playing mostly Japanese games. Not everyone's going to agree, but these days, games made by Western developers are, for the most part, better designed. The Mass Effect series is the best I've played in a long time.

For all of the hype on the internet forums, I haven't found a shred of truth to these claims. Mass Effect is boring, Oblivion was a massive step down from Morrowind, and Dragon Age is just plain awful.

How about all the other games that aren't rpg's?

I agree it wasnt as revolutionary as the gen before. This gen just feels like an improved version of the last gen and nothing else. However there have been some pretty good games this gen that I will always remember.

Welcome to the corporate agenda, where playing the same things over and over again work well for the zombies and makes the "business" men millions. It is just an unfortunate realization of artistic and unique being trampled over by the good old dollar. ( or whatever your currency is )

And you have to wonder how they're thinking up such agendas? Where do you think the dollars are coming from? From us. You're blaming the wrong group here. Give ourselves some credit.

As for the topic, no, I don't think this is the "worst generation" in gaming history. I believe the worst generation was somewhere during the 1980s where there was a massive influx of games, most of them being poor quality even by 1980s standards. This is actually one of the better generations (not the best, but better) as developers continue to be less strained by existing hardware capabilities and have better tools and methods to achieve what they want to do.

As for the OP, I saw his post as the familiar "In my day, we had better..." rant. Furthermore, to use specific examples, interestingly on Japanese games only, instead of using a general argument that would apply to the entire industry makes his argument more about "This generation of popular Japanese franchises is probably the worst in gaming history". I would want to say the OP is somewhat dilusional to think Japanese franchises alone should determine the overall state of the gaming industry or generation.

I didn't read any of that. I just took a small glance and noticed how horribly written it is, so I didn't bother. In any case, I disagree. I think all generations have had their fare share of awesomeness.

Ok in these posts i see some personal attacks and i dont understand why?

I have my account on gamespot for along time i dint make it to wright this post.It just feeled right to sare my opinions with the other fellow gamers.

My social life is very normal and i am not spending my days playing these awful and pointlesMMORGS like many do.And one of the reasons i feel like that for this gen of games becouse i dont feel playing whatever junk and mass produced games the developers trough at me.I first played a video game at my 5.Pac land strugling with the jump button to avoid the ghosts and i am following the games since then(i am 29).I dont watch videos of games in youtube i play them.I dont need mom and dad to upgrade my pc i am 29 and i have a work i am decorating places with ballons.I have a very wide collection of games from the late 80s to today.Yes i have numerous ds games that are very good but why i need a handheld to play a castlevania game(Lords of shadow was great game but not castlevania)

So to put it more simple

1)Tell me a strategy rpg of this gen that is equal or better from shining force 1-2 on genesis(Tactics ogre ons psp dont realy count its a recreations of tactis ogre of snes)

2)Tell me a combat flight sim of this gen that is equal or better from falcon 4.0 "December 12, 1998"

3)Tell me an adventure game of this gen that is equal or better from Gabriel night sins of the fathers "December 17, 1993"

4)Tell me a j-rpg that is of this gen that is equal or better from FFVII "January 31, 1997"

5)Tell me a survival horror of this gen that is equal or better from sillent hill 2 "September 24, 2001"

6)Tell me an arcade racing game of this gen that is equal or better from sega rally 2 dreamcast "October 14, 1999 pal"

7)Tell me an 3rd person shooter of this gen that is equal or better than maxpayne 2 "October 14, 2003"

8 )Tell me a rail shooter game of this gen that is equal or better from time crisis 2 "1997 arcade system 23"

9)Tell me a 3dplatform game of this gen that is equal or better from banjo tooie "November 20, 2000"

And other dozens Tell me.

I dont want to agree with me i am just telling you that may things that made the video game industry were it is right now are missing from this gen

Excuse my english i am from greece.

This generation is definitely not the worst in gaming history. But I do agree with how too many games feel the same. Most of the mainstream games feel exactly the same, games such as CoD, Halo, Battlefield, Killzone, Uncharted and Gears of War. But there are a lot of hidden gems out there, those are the more obscure titles that are more original. Those are games like Scott Pilgrim, Braid, White Knight Chronicles, Tales of Vesperia and Amnesia. Playing those games is like a breath of fresh air.

I miss competative gaming in the arcades (where people needed to be more careful about the rubbish that fell out of their mouths), and much prefer playing games at home with my real mates than playing with pseudo buddies online. That was the way things were in MY gen though, and the market is catering to what a different audience wants now, which is very different. Welcome to your first contact with the generation gap. ;)

Try to keep in mind that people see the past through rose colored glasses. Nostalgia is also quite deceptive, as we don't always take into account how much WE have changed over time. The lure of nostalgia is in the re-capturing of our history, but the item linked to it is often more of a conduit than an example of unchallenged excellence.

I'd say that my pet peeve with the current generation is the way people behave online. People cuss incessantly and show a lack of sportsmanship. I just think it's unnecessary. I don't really bother much with multiplayer unless I'm with friends.

It's the worst, but it's not really all that bad.

Personally I think the last two gens were the best, but this one hasn't been bad.

This may have already been covered, but the TC's statement is only true if you have a very short memory of "gaming history."

This is where I started...

Intellivision...safe to say the inherent quality of that gen falls far below current gen.

There has been a ton of awesome games this gen. Sure, there are trends but I'm pretty sure previous generations had trends too.
