For me, this is the best GTA game I ever played. Feel free to share your thoughts and also, your memories from the game, itself.
@rockfield: I was born a few years before it came out and it was the first game that I watched my father play and that I played myself. Nothing will ever beat GTA:SA although skyrim and the fallout series came close. I remember the second I completed it so vividly but I could still go and grab a drink, a couple of snacks and sit down for days just reliving my memories. (f*ck that zero mission with the plane aha)
@rockfield: is wrong side of the tracks Big Smoke's mission where he shoots people off of the train but it takes him a century with "two number 9's, a number 9 large, a number 6 with extra dip, a number 7, two number 45's, one with cheese, and a large soda" to complete?? There's quite a few infuriating missions
@rockfield: there's all these hard missions but let's not forget that the final mission "end of the line" is relatively easy which is a bit of a let down. It tries to be difficult with the night vision goggles but it doesn't really challenge anybody. The game is nowhere near perfect but is still considered to be a contender for one of the greats of all time
It's still my favourite GTA game... it has the most interesting story & characters I think. And I love the variety in the different cities/areas in the game.
Man I wish it'd come to XB1 BC already!
Preferred III and Vice City. San Andreas has a lot of content, it's much bigger with more features but I think that's to the games detriment.
I guess I still would consider it my favorite even if GTA V was much more amazing on a technical level, especially compared to GTA IV. But I dunno, there was something about San Andreas I really loved at the time. Maybe it was just how big and diverse the open world was. GTA V is awesome, but I was a bit let down by the lack of variety. San Andreas had so much more outside of Los Santos and I just loved exploring it. I spent most of my time with the game just messing around with cheats, but I did eventually play the story. I don't remember too much about it, unfortunately. I think it was good? Lol, at any rate the game has aged very poorly and I will never be able to enjoy it the same I did, but I'll always have fond memories of it.
maybe my least favourite gta game.
the first part of the game was brilliant but when CJ's brother gets sent to jail the story goes to shit. up til then it's authentic 90s gangsta rap culture - gang warfare, corrupt cops, audacious crimes with a shocking twist / betrayal as the cherry on top.
then it turns into the whacky adventures of carl johnson.
next thing you know hardcore gangbanger CJ is off opening a garage with a pot smoking hippy he's just met, racing blind asian dudes across the countryside, stealing combine harvesters from hillbillies, being the bungling sidekick of the most detestable latino woman ever, jetpacking around area 51 (69) etc.
the change in direction / atmosphere spoilt it a bit for me. still a very good game, even though i can pick loads of holes in it, but a bit of a jack of all trades master of none
Oh you're talking about the one that should have been remastered and not gta 5. It was definitely a true gta game with a more legit story
Like the two 3D GTA's before it, I loved San Andreas and played it over and over and over and over.
Couldn't touch it ever again after playing IV though (aside from messing about on my phone from time to time). The improvements to the gameplay were just too good for me to ever go back there.
Great game. But as above, don't go back, its not the same experience now we've all played V.
At the time though, it was absolutely ground breaking, whether you were doing missions or just mucky death.
First 10/10 console game for me.

I went back and played it a bit and I still prefer it to GTA V... San Andreas is more interesting.
Now what would be awesome is a San Andreas remake using the GTA V engine!!!!
Great game!
It took what Vice City did and upped the scale to the nth degree. Damn it, you had an entire state to play with, it was that damn big. Oh and that style of customisation needs to come back: putting on weight, losing it, getting sick, eating etc etc. Oh and bikes. I twas hilarious riding around and jacking people.
Not quite as polished or well written as VC or V but the 3rd best GTA of all time.
@rockfield:
It set the bar for open world games at the time and it definitely was or...IS the greatest game of its gen, arguably. But that's not to say that the series hasn't improved and GTA V is that crowning achievement that shows just how far GTA has come since San Andreas.
But San Andreas did age better than the older GTA games and even though the extra activities aren't as enjoyable as they were before, you can still enjoy a great storyline.
I played through it again, recently, and the game is still as fun as ever. While i've completed the story countless times there're still quite a few good and enjoyable missions.
Of course, the game map is still one of, if not, my favorite map of the serie and, personally, i think the older GTA games are funner when it come to cause pure chaos, idk why but with V i don't enjoy causing chaos nearly as much as in the older games for some reasons i can't figure out.
Loved everything about SA. The gameplay, soundtrack, storyline, it was all A1.
I would not feel bad if Rockstar ever wanted to remake this game entirely with GTAV's graphics and gameplay. Keep everything else the same but revamp it. Sad to say now that I've played GTAV it's hard to go back to SA and derive enjoyment from it. The game still makes me laugh but the gameplay is just soooooo dated now.
Preferred III and Vice City. San Andreas has a lot of content, it's much bigger with more features but I think that's to the games detriment.
GTA SA way better then 3 and vice city... cant even swim on them games... SA is way more of a adventure

Remember being stuck on a mission in SA because I hadn't leveled up my swimming. I had to dive over and over to level up his breathing, literally grinding.
So yea, much prefer the tighter focus of last two games.
@rockfield: GTA SA is the worst game in the series.
GTA 3 and GTA VC ,LCS are the best games in the GTA series.
Now i just played SAMP NGRP i juz hate being stucked
in San Andreas.
@rockfield: I juz don't understand why a gangbanger on speed could become
an award winning game!
CJ is a scumbag GTA is affected by the protagonist in San Andreas.

Good for you :)
GTA SA was good but as a story gamer, the story was weak and was far outdone by GTA IV
So my "best" GTA game is by far GTA IV, it felt the most polished and the story was the best in any GTA game.
The one thing I loved about San Andreas was the fact that I could remember where everything was and knew how to get somewhere.
My favorite GTA of all time, you'll like it more when you know who played voices of every character .. spicallyThe officer ;)
GTA SAN ANDREAS: WHO PLAYED THE VOICE OF EACH MAIN CHARACTER WITHIN THE GAME

This one was where true GTA was born. It has the depth, the size and scale of a true classic. The game world feels real and has piles of atmosphere. And the characters also feel real and have great dialogue.
Big leap from earlier games where characters were still very two dimensional and the game world was just a silly playground. Only Vice City Stories on PSP/PS2 comes close to San Andreas from that era.
San Andreas was also an example and inspiration to other devs. It showed everyone what a great sandbox game is like.
I quit gaming before GTA IV came out so I haven't played 4 or 5. That said, San Andreas is easily my favorite in the series. I spent many hours just mucking around with cheats (the massive bmx bunny hop one was my favorite) and never actually played much of the story. Great game.
Best GTA out of the 3D universe I was kinda disappointed with Vice City I enjoyed it but I was expecting more GTA :SA delivered big time it's a classic. Sometimes I still go back and play it, it hasn't aged well but the nostalgia is so strong with this game.
played every gta except the add-ons for the first one and gta 5, and gta sa is still the best imo. only vice city comes awfully close.
It's my favourite GTA.
Man I wish it was BC on XB1... dying to play it again.
since there is official remake of SA for 360, it should be playable on X1X too...
I've played that remake. It's basically the same as the original xbox version, just runs smoother and has trophies added to it. Still, good purchase.
@henrythefifth: I have a feeling the reason they haven't made it BC on XB1 is because they're selling it as a full release on PS4... even if people owned it on PS3. So it'd be abit silly to make it BC for free on XB1 :(
I think GTA V took my number one spot but Vice City is still second...BUT San Andreas was GTA dialled to eleven and may never be matched in content, size, sheer madness and all the character development. I was hoping GTA V would increase some of the light rpg-ish elements of SA but didn't, although the tech is available to make all that even better now.
Argggg, thread necromancy
I know GD is slow but not this slow :D
first of all, the thread is not that old, and secondly, this area gets very little traffic as is, so some necromancy is to be allowed so that conversation flows.
Whiners like you could be removed from the premises, tho, as you clearly have never anything useful to say about anything.
It was the most ambitious GTA game ever made. After that, they tried to get more realistic with it. Although GTAV had a hint of the insanity that was so dominant in San Andreas.
