@The_Last_Ride: If I could afford two consoles I would be tempted to buy a PS4 but only for the exclusives and for the games which my friends own so we can play online together. Most of my friends who game are Playstation fanboys so it would be nice to be able to own both so I could keep playing Xbox and not lose all my achievements and also be able to play with my friends online with PS4.

I've kind of abandoned my 360, so i still have my achievments and i can go back anytime. But for the time being i am invested in the Sony platforms

I thought about doing this.

Bought the PS4 on launch day after being won over by the 1080p vs 720p argument.

After six months of almost not playing it all, after realising there were no games out until November 2014, didn't support a 5ghz wireless connection (is a really big point for me after spending shedloads on new Fibre Optic Broadband!) I sold it and bought an Xbox One.

Much better IMHO.

But I won't drag the thread out to become a console war, but my reasons for not keeping the PS4, were connectivity issues and the only appealing release was Playstation Now, which lets you play all older PS3 games. I own a PS3, problem solved.

Once we hit the Ps1/Sega Dream Cast/N64 era I believe we hit the era where console loyalty died and consumers began owning multiple consoles.

The question wasn't so much what one console do you own as it turned into which two do you own?

Most people owned a XBOX & Nintendo or a PS2 and an XBOX or a Nintendo and a Ps2.
