Okay initial impressions. The game looks great on PC. Even though the graphics aren't as crisp on shiny as Uncharted, Crystal Dynamics has really nailed the atmosphere here. The wind effects, the early morning smog in the jungle, the realistic lighting and especially the sound effects make it very atmospheric and realistic. The game feels like a big budget blockbuster. lol I dont know if these are bad impressions for those looking for gameplay stuff, but the first thing that really stood out to me was the amazing atmosphere and production values. The menu itself probably cost a million to make.
I also just LOVED how the game doesn't hold your hand during the opening escape scene. I f*cking hate that about Uncharted games where they basically tell you what to pick up and where to use it. Here barely a minute into the game, they are like this is blocking your way, figure out a way to get past it. The pacing is great so far. The Guardian Of Light had the perfect balance of puzzles and shooting and I have full faith in Crystal Dynamics to deliver the same thing here. It's off to a good start.
Cant wait to come back tomorrow and play some more. Games need to start releasing on the weekends. It's incredibly stupid of Publishers to expect us to take days off work to play this game when they can simply just release it on a weekend.
One last thing. Even though the game looks great, I cant wait for this gen to be over. The ocean and the crashed ships just look so low res it's disappointing. Hopefully this game is a success so CD can go right back to making a next gen sequel.
