I just saw a refurbished one in my local store for 140 bucks. It comes with some free games too. What'dya think? I'm going to use it for RPGs and fighting games mostly.

No way , currently, I am playing my PS2 more than any other console. Though I'd be careful on the price, as I got a brand new slim model for 99 bucks.
It's never too late, all the games for it aren't going to disappear and it has plenty RPGs and fighting games. A new PS2 Slim is $100 if you're in the US(not sure about other territories) so if you're from here that's not a good price(a PS2 is certainly worth 140 imo but still bad to overpay for something) though.
Just don't forget a memory card, you'll need it.
To me $140.00 sounds a bit much, you probably shouldn't pay more than $50.00 for it used.
If you can afford it, I'd save up and just buy a PS3 - you won't regret it one bit.
Not sure what they sell over where you are, but here you can get a 320 gb with game or two for $300.00.
There are so many great games that are selling for around $20.00 new, you're bound to find some RPG and fight games that'll you be very happy with.
Ps2 has many great games. A ton of great rpg's. It's never to late for a ps2. But I think the price you paid was a little high.
I have not bought a current gen. console because I still spend so much time playing PS2. Definitely worth it to have. That price is way high for the US. I think I got mine for like $50-60.
Hell no, its pretty much the perfect time to invest in another ps2. I bought my third ps2 last year and i still play it as often as i play my ps3. Also, the games are still sold in most gaming stores, they'll probably be taken out in the near future and limited to ebay/amazon.......I'm in US though, ps2 stuff is everywhere and cheap.
$140 for a refirbished PS2 is way too much. Don't they still have the slim in stores? It should only be $100 brand new.
And no, it's never too late to get a PS2, it's most likely the best system to date.
It's never too late to get a PS2. Heck I still play SNES!

It's never too late to get any system, really. I enjoy playing the oldest of the old video games because there are many that deserve to be appreciated and the PS2 has arguably the best library of any system in history.
You're asking Legacy Platform fans if it's ok to buy a retro system? Kind of a loaded question, don'tcha think? Of COURSE it's a good buy, but consoles are going for $100 or less new-in-box if you can find them. the $40 extra depends on the games it comes with...
PS2 is probably the safest bet out there in terms of buying a legacy console. The games are easy to find, the PS2 consoles are cheap, and best of all, the games are great. The PS2 library is arguably one of the greatest console libraries of all time. I just recently bought a new PS2 to keep boxed up as a collector's item. I know they're not hard to find at all, but it's my way of paying tribute to one of the greatest consoles of all time.
Never ever to late to purchase a legacy system. You may not get the same feeling as playing those systems at the time of their release but the games on all legacy systems are still as fun to play as the day they were released, some may show age of course. PS2 is not that old and still being manufactured plus getting new releases. PS2 games are still excellent, more so than a few current gen titles.
No it is never too late to get a PS2. It is never too late to ever get a retro console of any kind (finding the console is the hard part of retro gaming)
Playstation 2 is still on sale brand new. There were about 5 2011 new releases. It is new too late for Playstation 2 with about 3000 games in the PS2 catalog worldwide since 2000-2011
