Hey guys. I have ventured on these boards, as a lurker, for quite some time. I have not seen many F:NV topics as of lately. In my honest opinion, it is going to be the surprise hit of this fall. I am certain that it will be an excellent game, judging from the screenshots and magazine information. It seems Obsidian is heading in a great direction with F:NV. Many new features have been implemented, such as the companion wheel and higher difficulty. These two changes are great, as the veterans have more challenge with hardcore mode, and players who enjoy variety will like the wheel. My personal favorite feature of Fallout:New Vegas is the vibrant colors of the "wasteland," per say. It looks gorgeous in the screenshots, but it still retains that "After-Nuclear feel" that was in Fallout 3. Not only is the color a little more prettier, the weapons now have an array of modifications, new to the franchise (I think?). Finally, for those wishing for a true feel of being an evil dweller, or a hero of the wastes, the karma system has been upgraded as well to further influence the way your actions affect other towns and NPCS. Now, what do you think most impresses you about Fallout:New Vegas? It is shaping up to be a great game in my eyes. Do you think it could attain the success of the renowned Fallout 3 before it?

Here are some links for more information on Fallout: New Vegas.

I think it will be a little more advertised when it gets closer to the release date. Like Fallout 3 though, I think everyone will know about it once it has had some time to gain fame.

Well, it'd be nice if we had something to chew on that can be a catalyst for discussion other than to have people say they're excited for the game. I'm sure once we're closer to its release date, there'll be much more topics about the game.

You obviously have very out of the norm opinions if you think all those games are meh. You have Bioshock 1 and 2, mirrors edge, heavenly sword, brutal legends, Left for Dead, LBP (atleast not anymore)Kameo, and so many indie games. Once again if you still arent satisfied I could go on.

Well, it lacks some PR, like say some ingame videos with the hud appearing and gameplay trailers. Its too early to get hyped. I just hope osbidian will fix the engine because many people have problems on the pc right now.

I guess it does need to be advertised more. Though for now, it seems Alpha Protocol is still taking up a lot of Obsidian's schedule.

Its the same as Gears of War 3 though, as they both are releasing new info and have only one trailer. I am, however, a little content with the under-hype. If a game gets too hyped (Halo:Reach), and if it does not live up to our expectations, it can be devastating.

Osbidian is really tight with those 2 big titles to develop, they need time.

I would agree to a point but Alpha Protocol was about to ship a while ago. I would think they have a solid team still working on that game but the majority of people would be freed up to work on F:NV

Alpha protocl is in development for some time now. I recall that they delayed the game around the time they anounced new vegas (I guess they need it more time to develop both games since new vegas is made to cover up the gap between fallout 3 and fallout 4 so they got a timescale and cant take their time with this one) But serioulsy the last on the spot showed some serious lack of vertical vsync. I worry on how well the game will run on both consoles and pc. I hope they do a better job with fallout 3 on pc than bethesda.

Its a diffirent game, its a full game you dont need fallout 3. New worldmap and many new weapons and enemies, new story. It will have nothing to do with fallout 3, its not a direct sequel. Bethesda is propably working on fallout 4 so fallout new vegas is being made to cover the time gap between fallout 3 and fallout 4. While the story and worldmap is diffirent, its still the same game with the same graphics and gameplay like say: vats.

Its a bit under the radar, but as it gets closer to release date the conversation about it will heat up. Also it really isn't under my 'radar'. I've been keeping an eye on it for at least 2-3 months now.

Yeah. it sucks hearing that a lot of people couldn't even get the game started. For me it was the most polished Bethesda game I ever played. I only had to turn off a codec program that i noticed was loading the game after the first couple times i played it and then the only bug that i saw came after getting one of the DLC's. There was this weird thing where a ghouls arm would stretch out into the horizon when it died and then the body would just get sucked away. it happened 2-3 times so it really didn't bother me. Anyways I read in the new issue of GI that there will be a hardcore mode in which a character will have to drink and eat occasionally so not to get dehydrated and get stat penalties. I think I'll be playing the game that way. especially if you'll have to drink radiated toilet water and then manage the rads. Also it's going back to where stimpacks can't cure injuries to limbs and you'll need a dr's bag.

Well i was running the game fine till i got a quad core and nvidia released new drivers. It freezes on quadcores and i had to make changes at the engine to work well and i had to use older drivers to work well. I hope osbidian will adress the issues and the game will work properly on release. I can already seeing myself adding guns in the game. Thats propably one of the reasons i wont try the hardcore mode. I like having alot of ammo and ammo has weight on hardcore.

Stability is mostly what I care about. I really enjoyed Fallout 3 and didn't have much problem with the base game, but the DLCs are frustrating because I can't get through an hour without having to restart the game from a crash at some point. Also, the ability to Alt-Tab in and out of the game properly would be nice.

Go figure, oh well still better than alien vs predator that froze for 5-30 seconds every now and then. Still they have not managed to fix it. I think using fallout mod manager to set the load order is the best thing to do, also disabling auto save options may help and finally load one dlc every time.

Bethesda probably doesn't feel the need to advertise too much. Their name is common enough now that when people hear of a game published by them, they expect it to be a decent game.

If you ask me, propably the game is on an early state, just like in fallout 3, we did not see any gameplay till the last months.

Even if you're not a "gamer" and don't really care about video games in general, it's hard to ignore Bethesda Softwork's Fallout 3, which hit shelves last week. The company has done an amazing job of mixing media, going for full saturation and awareness both before the launch, and after.

Yes, Fallout 3 was an exception. Newly acquired license plus the grand return of a proper Fallout. It's hard not to advertise.

I'm surpised how much advertisement Alpha Protocol is getting. Hopefully these two games give Obsidian the boost they need to become household names. Bioware and Bethesda seem to be stuck in their own formulas. Obsidian isn't afraid to branch out and do other things. Hell they'll be the only company that has mimicked Bioware (KOTOR 2, NWN 2) and Bethesda (Fallout New Vegas) and then done their own things (Mask of the Betrayer, Storms of Zehir and the cancelled Aliens RPG)

Huh. That's interesting. I had seen a few magazine ads and maybe a tv ad, but that was it. Other than F3, I think my point is still somewhat relevant...

I don't really think it's under the radar but because of the name I first thought this was another Fallout 3 expansion and didn't care. At least not until I read the article about it in GameInformer.

Same. At first, I thought it was going to be a half-a**** spin-off attempt, but now it is looking like a full-fledged fallout RPG. I have high hopes for Oblivion to pull through on this game.

Well the story might be better but juding by kotor 2 by osbidian i wouldnt bet on it. I hope the game actually runs better and not looking worse with many issues as osbidian games usually do.

True. In comparison to KotOR's story, KotOR 2 was quite poor. Plus some dialogue wasn't that good. Hard to believe how some of those glitches and bugs go into the game as well.

Obsidian has had experience with Fallout though, and with old devs returning, should be great.
