What games do you think did not get the attention it deserved?
This topic is locked from further discussion.
I think the better term would be under-appreciated, since inevitably high scoring yet very poor selling games like Okami will be mentioned. (well, at least by C_rake it will be)
I'm able to think of a few.
More recently, I think Dead Rising 3 and Killer Instinct on the Xbone don't get the credit they deserve.
Okami is criminally underappreciated
i have been playing around 25 hours of that game, it's pretty good. Kind of long though

Oh good, you got through the tutorial.
:P
it's only 10 minutes x.x i feel the visual novel does a good job of introducing the back story

yeah i finally got all of the freaking brush strokes
Enslaved: Odyssey to the West is a fantastic game. Sales suffered massively due to a hectic release schedule at the time. I'd recommend it to anyone who's not had the pleasure yet.
Imagine Bioshock Infinite mixed with a little bit of TLOU and some GOW and you have Enslaved. Also features some of the best voice action of the last few years.
Killzone: Shadow Fall --I played (& liked) BF4, CoD:G, and KZ:SF and think that contrarily to what has been said in the reviews, Sony's shooter well merits being mentioned together with the other two among this fall's first-person shooters, both as regards single & multiplayer.

it looks good, never tried that game
I always find it weird that people name super mainstream games in these threads. The question is "What games do you think did not get the attention it deserved?", it would be interesting if people would name games that are a little more obscure than Resident Evil 46, Killzone 10 and Dead Rising 1,2,3 and their 25 DLC expansions.
Nihilumbra is an iOS platformer that is on par with many beloved consolegames, like Limbo for example.
I'll nominate the Tropico series, simply because I'm having a lot of fun with Tropico 4 these days. It's very refreshing to play a game that has colours and humour, while still dealing with an adult topic (and one that is not sex or violence!). It also helps that the game is insanely addicting
The Trackmania series is criminally unknown on these forums. Trackmania 2: Stadium is absolutely fantastic, yet people never mention it around here. If you like no-nonsense arcade racers, look it up. If you miss the days when you'd press A to move forward and B to brake in a racing game, this is the game for you.
Edit: Gamespot has the worst WYSIWYG engine I've ever seen.

You can pick it up for around £5 ($8) and it's 100% worth it. The only downside is the ending leaves it open for a sequel which will sadly never come as Ninja Theory have shelved it.

probably twice that here, the cheapest game i have ever seen is 10 bucks, they usually sell for 120 bucks new

this.. i have it on the 360 and recently bought it again on steam. great game.
I know Wave Race gets massive critical acclaim, but I think it is underrated as a series. Blue Storm, while not as charming as the original, is a stellar title. That game must have tanked financially to not warrant a sequel. I'd love to see what Nintendo could do with it on WiiU.

Enslaved - Great story and combat. Was impressed by the graphics as well
The Saboteur - Open world fun. Killing lots of Nazis.
Deadly Premonition - One of the best stories in gaming with twists. Poor graphics and controls but not of that matters here.
Binary Domain - Solid combat and controls. Great 3rd person shooter.
I thought all these games deserve far more attention than they got
TMNT: Out of the Shadows. The reviewers all seemed to go out of their way to rip on it when in actuality is was one of the most satisfying brawlers of the generation. AND it's fuckin' NINJA TURTLES!
Dead Island
Resident Evil 6
Lollipop Chainsaw
Shadows of the Damned
No More Heroes
No More Heroes 2
Spyborgs
LIT
Defend Your Castle (WiiWare)
SoulCalibur Legends
Killer7
Singularity
Cave Story
Excitebots: Trick Racing
Geist
Need for Speed: Nitro
Metroid: Other M
Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands (Wii)
Sin and Punishment: Star Successor
Tenchu Shadow Assassins (Wii)
Vampire Crystals
Zombie Panic in Wonderland
Driift Mania
Onslaught
FAST: Racing League
3D Pixel Racing
Sonic and the Secret Rings
Red Steel 2
Lots of games.
The Darkness 1 and 2. Simply amazing games. The story is great, the combat is unique and so freaking satisfying, and the voice acting is top notch. Two of the best shooters of all time in my opinion.
-Singularity
-Binary Domain
-Guacamelee (maybe not underrated, but overlooked)
-Rainbow Moon
-Call of Juarez Gunslinger

Those are some really good games

Yes they sure are, I own all of them. Must say I was surprised at just how large a game world the Lego: LOTR game is, also love how we can play our own music in SSX... more games need this option.

i have to finish SSX and buy Spiderman when i can, i heard good things about that game
@The_Last_Ride: The Amazing Spiderman was a weird one. For all it's flash, it was still no Spiderman 2 in the open world. The combat system was okay as a parry/thrust Arkham imitation, but I never felt wholly in control of it. The one thing I simply couldn't abide though, was that Spiderman felt like he was made of glass- 2 or 3 hits and it was game over. That combined with the lack of control made it frustrating in the extreme.
Strange thing, though, was that as a 3DS game it was... well... Amazing. The 3DS port was identical to the console version minus a couple of combat animations, the open world NYC hub, and a boss or two. It was either the best handheld port of the generation or one of the most primitive console titles.
Nier if you don't mind sacrificing gameplay for story. Not to say the gameplay is bad, because the controls feel smooth, but it can get repetitive during some moments and it's not particularly challenging. Bosses are fun to fight though.
The story is really something else, it's so dark and twisted. One of the best stories in videogames I've seen, better than the stories in Red Dead Redemption, Assassin's Creed, and Mass Effect in my opinion. Characters are a lot of fun, and have the perfect blend of emotion and humor.

Yeah 100% agree. Great game.
Also chuck Mafia 2 in there.
hum the people bashing GTA V are probably hipsters. yea i can imagine that being very true
Heroes of Might & Magic II & III.... I've put so many hours into these games and most have never heard of them -_-.
Aaaaw, I was going to troll with that one. Now I have to be serious... ;-)
Uhm, Antichamber. And FTL. But maybe those actually got enough attention. I don't know really know nor care.

so true! Those two games are so epic!

I disagree and I think an average of 80% (or whatever) is too generous. I wouldn't recommend it to those who are fans of action titles such as ninja gaiden, devil may cry, bayonetta (which are also my favorite games in the genre), but I'd probably recommend it to someone who enjoys god of war, darksiders, dantes inferno, etc..
If I were into those games tho... I'd probably be a huge fan.
I also wouldn't say sales "suffered" if they hit around 1 million sold, but that's just my opinion.
