Yup, you guys heard that right. The new map pack for MW2 which is 3 new maps and 2 old ones from the first MW will be 1200 pts.

Here's what 1up has to say:

http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3178352

Bowling confirmed that the pack will be comprised of five maps (three new maps and two "slightly reworked" maps from Call of Duty 4) and also announced the price: 1,200 Microsoft Points, or $15. That's right, the map pack will actually cost one quarter of the game's price itself. The Battlefield guys are going to have a field day with this.

You could argue that the map pack being just $5 more than the price that most people were expecting (800 points) isn't really that big of a deal. But Activision and CEO Bobby Kotick have continued to amass a reputation as a company that cares about nothing more than money, and this decision isn't going to help that perception one bit.

I was kind of excited, but now I'm not. 1,200 pts ($15) is just too much for 3 new maps and 2 old ones.

*sigh* I'm tired of writing hate replies to Activision's greed, let's just say I'm very disappointed about this.

UPDATE: First Details for MW2's first map pack:

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3178349

  • The new "Stimulus Pack" adds five new maps.
  • Three new maps: The new maps, according to the description of the map-pack, include Bailout, "a multi-level apartment complex;" Storm, "an open industrial park littered with heavy machinery;" and Salvage, "a snowy junkyard fortified by stacked debris and crushed cars."
  • Two returning favorites from MW1: Crash, and Overgrown

March 30 on XBL first. PS3 TBA.

Crash is good news, but I was hoping for Crossfire. Oh well, at least they didn't include Bog or Downpour *shiver*

Hopefully they won't be charging too much for these.

You know I haven't played MW2 mp for a while (got tired of playing the same maps) and was waiting for the DLC map pack, but at $15? :| Forget about it. I'll stick with BFBC2 and other games.

lol $15 dollars for a map pack. Great business move. he knows that there are millions of people who still play everyday relgiously, and most of em will buy it regardless. He's gonna get even richer.

This just proves how much IW wants to milk you guys. The sad part is most MW2 players will probably waste money on this crap.

It's not IW. It's Activision.

I'll wait till their free or much cheaper. I don't have a MW2 addiction to even start justifying the price.

Do these things ever go free anymore? I guess there's the eventual Xbox Live Deal of the Week or something, but I don't think these maps are going to be free. Ever. Hell, I don't think the COD2 maps ever went free, but correct me if I'm wrong on this.

I really miss the days of Halo 2, where you could choose to buy the maps right away or wait several months down the road for them to become free. Not only cause it was free, but it allowed Bungie to integrate the new maps with the appropriate playlists, which made multiplayer much more interesting and varied without the annoying community split. Actually, I have no idea if other multiplayer-centric games went this route, but I kind of wish that it would have caught on for future titles. Guess that's too much wishful thinking on my end.

You'll probably have to wait a year for a XBL deal of the week thing.

Yeah. Same here. I was actually kind of excited but that was sucked dry from this bummer of a news. Now I'm thinking about selling my copy to Gamestop and just get Resonance of Fate.

I've paid $10 for 3 Halo 3 maps I guess... Still a bummer, but me and Activision both know that when these come out I will buy them regardless. I hate it when marketing works.

I still think the original maps should have been a free download to atone for the mess the did with MW2 maps. Well, one can dream.
