Found at GAF. Lock if old.

So it seems THQ are beating EA (and Ubisoft) to the punch by implementing a one-time use code in UFC: Undisputed 2010, which is set to release May 25th, a couple weeks before the upcoming Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11.

Here's the original source at Destructoid.

Over there an official statement by THQ can be read:

THQ is delivering a truly unmatched online gaming experience for fans of UFC and across all fighting games in general. The main enhancement of UFC Undisputed 2010's premium online content is the new "Fight Camp Mode" in which players can assemble ranks of up to 40 people and train together. This is a significant value-add to the game as players can continually improve their skills by training with their friends and bringing teams of MMA specialists together.

This multiplayer content for UFC Undisputed 2010 will be available via a one-time code included with the game at purchase. Codes for accessing the content will be available for second-time buyers for an additional $5.

Details for acquiring the codes and how this will work will be available via the UFC community site.
THQ

Thoughts? This is, I am certain, only the beginning.

Looks like I'll be sticking to old games if I still want some multiplayer experience. Until they fall in line, then I'm pretty much done with this.

I wouldn't say it's a slippery slope, but it is going to be a problem for the next while. It's just video game companies trying to make some money out of used game sales, and you can sort of see why they're doing it.

At the very least $5 is better than $10. This is so stupid. dvader654
Eh, it's only really an issue if you want to play online. If not, then it doesn't reall affect anything you do.

It's still going to blow up in their faces. Because used gamers will try to find a way around it, the developers and publishers will try stricter measures, and next thing you know, we have to be online 24/7 to play the games we paid for. It's going to be the PC gaming scene all over again. It starts small, and then it snowballs. I'd be shocked if we make it out of next year without a one time use code coming with games to unlock the single player game as well. They could just try making better games that have longer lasting appeal, but that's too hard for them.

I could see how this would make people angry, but the problem is that the people this affects in a negative way are the people who wouldn't be giving any money to the people who make the game anyway. The only time they get money is when the game sells a new copy, so locking stuff out to second-hand purchasers can't make them lose money.

I know but its the principal of the thing, I wouldn't want to rent a game and be locked out of portion of the game. Only a matter of time before this stuff gets put into single player games.

Ya i mean heaven forbid you rent a game and have to use the 7 day multiplayer trial... that would just be insane, 5 minutes of work to play multi? unacceptable...

"We've pinged THQ for comment, since there's no word yet on how much a code will cost, or if there will be any sort of free trial period (like the 7-day trial that the Online Pass offers). As soon as we hear back, we'll update this story." - Destructoid

*sigh* This trend is very annoying. Even for me who purchases new games. It's not like I'm a selfish prick that buys a game and never thinks of lending it or having a roommate play it on his account and such. Videogame companies have figured it though I guess. ALL GAMERS ARE FRIENDLESS LOSERS WHO DON'T SHARE BECAUSE THEY HAVE NOBODY TO SHARE WITH SO LETS IMPLEMENT THIS DUMB WAY OF GETTING MONEY.

So if, say, my brother wants to play on the same console with his personal account he can't do that? Bravo THQ.

If it is treated like other DLC stuff, he would be able to. If it is something else like all of EA's weird account things, you can't.
