What Are Your Favorite Platformers NOT Starring Mario or Sonic?

We all know Mario and Sonic are the kings of platforming. Everybody loves them.

But what are some of the platformers you love that don't involve fat plumbers or blue hedgehogs?

Donkey Kong Country 2. I love the atmosphere of that game.

As a kid, I was a huge Lion King fan (still am) and I really liked the platformer on the SNES. I remember it being hard as fvck tho.

oh I dunno, Mega Man series? And Marble Blast Ulta? Maybe Vexx?

I occasionally enjoyed playing Alex Kidd.

That was the game that came on automatically if you didn't put a game in the late versions of the master system console.

Spyro the Dragon when Insomniac owned the series. Favorite 3D platformer.

Donkey Kong Country 2 is one of my favorite games. Other than that, Kirby Returns to Dreamland comes to mind. 

One Game, and One Game ONLY - "PANDEMONIUM!" (PSOne) - Best. Platformer. EVAR.

I'd add Joe N Mac series to my list, as they are a great platformer series.

Plok and Puggsy deserve a mention too.

There are not a lot of platformers I hate to be honest. 

If Metroid and Metroidvania games count, then those. Also, while I haven't played too much of it, Cave Story seems pretty good so far.

Same goes with Viewtiful Joe.  More of a beat em up but it has platforming and it's essentially 2D.
