i have to ask. what games are considered platformers? recently the games i like now are grand theft auto and metal gear solid series. from the past i like a ton of the old platformers. mario kart is prolly the game/series that best fits this question since the game was born years ago and is still going.chenzo22Platformers are games where you jump around on "platforms" and usually collect stuff. Games like Super Mario, Sonic, Jak & Daxter, etc. Mario Kart isn't a platformer :P

Collecting stuff is debatable. It;s why people actually have arguments of whether Mario64 and Banjo are actually platfomers.

True enough. But nonetheless, Mario Kart DEFINETLY is not a platformer.

Oops, I didn't realize he said Mario Kart. I thought he said Mario 64.
Ape Escape, Mega Man 2, Kirby's Epic Yarn, other games in those series. Spyro's PS1 trilogy and Ratchet. My top favorites though are Ratchet 2 and 3, Epic Yarn, and Mega Man 2. Cloud_765
Can't believe I forgot to mention Ape Escape, especially since I played it a few months ago. That game is off the hook. It was so unique and the way the game utilized the analog was excellent, with a few frustrating exceptions.

I've played so many platformers, by reading more posts or thinking about more my list could be much longer. XDPlatformers are games where you jump around on "platforms" and usually collect stuff. Of course they are.
You jump around on platforms, hence "platformer".
Metroid, Mega Man and Contra are platformers too, they're just more focused on shooting.
Even Quake has some platformer feel to it:
