No, it causes pure debate dude. No offense but I think you need to relearn the term Controversial. You clearly donot know what the term it means. Controversial is a term that is mislabeled as that it only relates to something shocking. No controversial actually relates to whether something that stirs people and causes debates. The game sure does not have any shocking or offensive content, but it does not have to have that to be controversial. And yea the game was critically praised and had no controversy about it when it first came out. The controversery came years and years later, and to this day...the game stirs contentious debate whenever it is mentioned. People argue whether its good or bad, and it gets heated. Thats what Controversey does it causes intense debate over anything. And thats what FFVII does, anytime that game is mentioned it causes debate, and yes there is fanboyism involved, but there are also the haters and non fanboy defenders of the game who come running whenever the game is mentioned. It stirs people up, cause debate and hence it is Controversey. And heck even the gaming media gets involved into the discussion, G4 did a vid calling it overrated, so thats one example of the controversy this game. So in general FFVII is a controversial game to whether is it really a good game or is it a horrible game. Thats the debate, just keep in mind next time you say something is not controversial that you know the term. Controversial is not just exclusive to shocking and "offensive" Content!

Wow, this oozes a big lack of life experience with the addition of "dude".

So according to your logic being applied to the matter, Mario games are controversial, Dragon Quest games are controversial, Metroid games are controversial, not just FF7 but all Final Fantasy games are controversial...in fact, some people like IGN more than Gamespot, therefore we are on a controversial gaming site. My wife likes more cream in her coffee than I do, therefore coffee drinking is a controversial topic in our house.

Obviously the technical definition of "contravercy" can be applied to FF7 or any minor difference of opinion for that matter.

You talk about heated debates and people loosing control of their emotion at the mention of FF7...however, not once since FF7 was released have I encountered anybody who has flown off the handle and gotten all emotional if someone isn't a fan of FF7. I and people I associate with play these games, not have temper tantrums when they are brought up in discussion.

No it cannot be applied to every game. You know why? Because unlike you I venture out of different groups out, and get to know people. Mario games, Dragon quest games, and Metroid games usually get a level of praise that is just Universal or targeted towards a niche audience that niche audience usually plays. The niche is in more reference to Dragonquest as opposed to the other two, but none the less, unlike FFVII the games controversey is stemmed whether its overrated or not. LIked or not and should it be. None of the games you mentioned causes people to get pissy or emotional, or spark intelligent or non intelligent debate. People are not as divided as they are on those games....trust me I get out and I know tons of people in the gaming community and in the industry(Even know people at Atlus) and the game is debated highly. The Majority agree with me on calling FFVII since its a game that causes ire...

And justo ne other thing, perhaps I was condescening to you, but I love how you used a personal attack, and used the old you have no life routine. So dude I suggest next time you decide to debate you actually debate. petty insults just show you have a lack of argument which clearly you do. :D

I love how you complain accusing me of making a "personal attack" and making "petty insults"...then follow it with... personal attacks and petty insults. Way to take the high road there friend, you sure talked me down. And by the way, calling me dude is condescending and suggests your level of maturity in the range of...Bill and Teds Excellent Adventure so don't be a hipocrite.

Anyways,

Not everyone likes Mario games (platformers in general), therefore they are controversial according to your argument.

Not everyone likes Dragon Quest (turn-based JRPG's in general), therefore they are controversial according to your argument.

Not everyone likes Metroid (the amount of backtracking required in most Metroid games, as well as the switch to 3-D with the Prime games), therefore they are controversial according to your argument.

You claim that none of the games I mentioned "get people pissy or emotional" but guess what? Neither does FF7.

That is nice that you get out and know tons of people in the gaming community (unlike me as you pointed out) but what does "knowing people at Atlus" have to do with FF7? Are they the authority on the matter or something that the rest of the world doesn't yet know about?

Oh yes saying that you have lack of argument is not a insult it is simply stating a flaw in your argument which I clearly pointed out. You easily mix up terms, you should really learn to do so. By the way you admit you donot get out from your circle of friends either, and if you go look on youtube, or any other game sites you will the controversey and blood boiling that FFVII seems to dive at.

Kind of ironic that your getting very emotional about that by going to petty insults. That what happens when emotion gets involved in a conflict seems like thats whats happening to you. But oh well.....As for Atlus, I am just stating htat I know people, your attempt to twist words against me has failed.

And as for me calling you dude, thats how I talk. Not talking down to anyone, and I love how you take everything personally. You are very sensitive are you not....funny huh. Not talking down to you, I am talking in a very blunt manner cause I am blunt. Cannot handle, then fine. To be honest, I donot know you, and I surely donot hate you, I am simply being blunt on my arguments. Also you might want to fix your about yourself blog, because its just a pure rant about the wii, and really is not about you. Just a little advice :D

First- Blood boiling and video games are two different things as far as I am concerned.

Second- Why would I look for videos on you-tube for random opinions on video games?

Third- You accuse me of getting emotional and making petty insults, but you have been nothing but insulting yourself. Claiming that you are blunt is all well and good, but you really should improve your ability to discuss topics with people who are equally blunt. Calling you on BS and being "sensitive" as you called me are two different things.

Lastly- What does anything I've said have to do with the Wii? Other than Metroid Prime 3, not one game that's been mentioned is Wii exclusive, so what are you talking about? You've responded to me, I've responded to you...How does a two person discussion necessitate a personal blog?

Oh, and thanks for your advice! That's exactly what I come to video game forums for. :P

I thoroughly enjoy almost everything about this game, but if I had to pick and choose what I like the best it would be the story, the environments, the battle system, and the extras. Oh and Chocobo races :D !!!!!!

Just wondering what made you play ff7 and what you liked about it?

I think the story is nothing special, but i liked the characters music, and the gameplay.

michael582

The story, the characters, the pacing/balance, (for nostalgia: the graphics were great at the time, it brought Final Fantasy into the 3D realm and did it really well)

It had a similar feel (for me) to FF4 and FF6, both of which are my favorite instalments.

I thought the story was great. The twists and turns in the latter portion of the game was awesome

I played FF7 because I wanted to see what all the hype was about, so I finally found the game and started playing it. I honestly can't say there was anything I really disliked about the game, I pretty much enjoyed it all.

I agree. I love FFVII because there was really no part of it that I disliked. Every aspect of the game, from the graphics to the story to the charaacters to the battle system to the music, just meshed together almost perfectly. It is an incredibly fun and entertaining experience. It isn't my favorite game of all time, but it is definitely up there.

9 out of 10 people who play FF8 before FF7 will not enjoy FF7, they will see FF8 as a better game, why? because its certainly a better game! better graphics better characters better history.

I concur, but FFVIII's battle system fails due to its grinding nature and exploitation.

I concur, but FFVIII's battle system fails due to its grinding nature and exploitation.

The only reason there was more grinding at the later end part of FF8 was because FF7 encounter rate, i felt, was far more higher, more random battles while doing story area's then anything.

I both think they are good games, but my opinion is that Final fantasy 8 is better. I felt more connection with the characters, the characters had more depth, a much more unique world setting and story. The battles wernt that bad, but hardly different, Instead of mashing X for 'Attack' im mashing square for "boost' :P.

The story is what really gets me to play a FF game half heartedly or full immersion, i hated 12, it was too different in battle system, i felt like i wasnt in control, and the story was weak. That said, FF7's story, while not bad, didnt really stray too far from its roots, "Encounter main character , encounter party, learn about bad guy, chase after bad guy who is doing bad things, kill bad guy at the end of the game'. Where as, with FF8, the story had so much twists, so interesting that i really wanted to find out what happened next.
