So you just signed up, and with your first post you decide to try to talk people into using the same service you use to buy games online. Let me guess, the link in your sig (which I don't see, luckily) is a referral link that will get you points with GameGavel.

Amazon is cool, but they are usualy higher than I want to pay, and i can find stuff on Ebay or GameGavel for less. The main problem I have with Ebay is that alot of scammers are poping up nowdays.

Yes, i entirely agree with you Sinnbox. I tried to look up a 20 dollar game once on thier site (Amazon's) and they wanted to hand it to me in exchange for 45 bucks. I've never realy found scammers on eBay... Unless I don't know what you mean by "scammers". What do the scammers do? Mabye I HAVE seen them before...

You can always try trading game. I've only run into a couple of duds on www.goozex.com.

By scammers I mean people that send you a crappy condition game, or a buyer that pulls a Paypal refund on you.

You can actually report a Buyer Fraud if you suspect a buyer making a false claim against you.

Ebay. On the whole, I don't get any problems. When dealing with the gaming market and the kind of individuals who sell in this category, the risk is obviously higher. You just need common sense:

  • Don't buy from people with 0/multiple - feedbacks
  • Only buy if it says mint/perfect or goes into detail in description (if not, they're probably hiding something)
  • Don't buy from people using very low P&P fees (it'll get sent wrapped in tissue - had it happen to me a few weeks ago, see below)
  • Always ASK specific questions about the condition of the item if you're unsure

I recently had 2 poor experiences due to me trying to trade as cheap as possible...(Don't fall into that trap!)

^I received a DVD that was supposed to be in new condition but arrived wrapped in kitchen roll, inside of brown paper, no jiffy to speak of. Disgusting. Disc came loose and scuffed.

I also received a game that was "Great condition"

I know there are ways to combat scammers, but Ebay is just such a large corporation that they don't stop the scammers, There are several big time scammers that are power sellers and have over 2000 positive feedback. they show pics of great condition games in thier auctions but they are just stock pics, and you may end up getting a dirt covered copy of a rare game. for common games this is not that big of a deal but I kow several people that have paid $100+ for rare NES/SNESE games that got ripped pretty bad and Ebay just siad well you got the game, who cares about stock pics!!

Actually, I feel Ebay are doing a great job clamping down on this sort of behaviour. There's also the holding of Paypal funds to to combat various criminal activity. With 1000+ feedback, I reckon I've done pretty well to have got nearly 100% positives.

I don't usually spend large amounts of £, especially on games, knowing what kind of, let's say, "bottom of the barrel" people you get when it comes down to game related sales. Honestly, I've dealt with every type. It's definitely a learning curve getting to "know" a good auction, from a bad one.

I've been using Ebay for 7 years so I like to think I can tell. I was pretty unlucky to have 2 sales go bad within a couple of weeks, although I suppose I can only blame myself. Now, I ALWAYS fire questions at the seller if they're being vague about an item.

As for rogue Powersellers, can't say I heard about it. Surely the feedback shows if they tend to rip people off. Just because they make have a lot of positives, it doesn't excuse frequent negative and neutral feedback. DON'T deal with them.
