I expect many things from the next-gen games, but I have a short list. Please list your own.
3D volumetric liquid.
Physics based sounds.
AI Directed dialogue.
So these may sound impossible, but I have aspirations.

Resource-wise those are all extremely expensive and provide only marginal benefits.
If anything based on high-end PC technology, a next-gen system wouldn't be able to handle more than any one of those things (except for AI directed dialogue which has problems not related to technology).
I only expect to be as baffled as i was when i played the ps2 for the first time. The game I played was MGS2 and couldn't see how graphics could get any better than this. As long as they manage to impress me in any of the aspects that go in to making a game; with the AI, graphics or whatever I'll be satisfied.
What I would expect from the next generation would be better implementation of AI, dynamic environments where persistent changes are retained and affect your outcome of something. Like say you blow up a building, and it has rubble there, you can't just walk over it. But conversely, sitting behind the rubble for a bullet shield is equally important. Stuff like that, more realistic deformations and collision detections, etc.
I bet there will be this whole 1440p resolution bragging, but it will only really run at 1080p like this generation was supposed to.
I think next generationwilljusthavefull 1080p support and a massive dual 1GB video card.
The graphics of controlling like an animated blu ray movie like WALL-E or ICE AGE.
I don't want much from a next gen console.. I'de just be happy with a console that's a fraction larger than one of my games disk complete with graphics ectthat can compete with a high spec P.C/ graphics card.. I'de also like it to include a drinks dispenser, teleporting device and a personalised complimentary fully trained french maid.. Like I said, I don't want much !
phone call..
"Hi, is that Decades Of Gaming ?"
"Yeh; who's calling ?
"It's Bill Gates here "
"Hi Bill, How's it hanging ?"
"Yeh, same as; just chillin... I'm just calling about that console you ordered "
"Which console B.G ?"
"You know.. the one that's just a fraction larger than an actual games disk, the one that can compete with any high spec P.C/ graphics card including built in drinks dispenser, teleporting device and personalised complimentary fully trained french maid "
"O.K, what about it ?"
" Well I'm happy to inform youthat it's ready! "
"Cool, so how much is it Bill ?"
"Well..... (long pause)..it's...
I expect next gen consoles to obviously have Superior impressive graphics; so much in fact that I want a bad graphics game to look like crysis. Other than that, I kinda of hope they would lose the disc format and go for a more compact, safer format since discs can get scratched and never work again which is a bummer.
If Microsoft can make a controller with a D-pad that can rival that of the NES, then they are the winners of next gen.
i expect that maybe everyone will shut it about the next gen for a few yeas (hopefully)jcopp72Every time a thread like this comes out i say the same thing
Hmm...realistic expectations?! No multiple discs/mandatory installations.gunswordfistI thought that would become the norm? Don't games have to install so they don't access the disc all the time :?

Until Onlive proves otherwise, whoever said it, downloadable or streamed games are not going to be the standard for next generation. We will most likely still have one more generation of disc based consoles.

3D visuals will probably be incorporated into the next gen consoles along with extremely high prices.huladog123They might find a way to lower the cost of making 3-D in the future. If you look at how much HDTVs were when they first came out, they looked rediculously (misspelled) priced and people thought they wouldn't ever come down in price. But now they are down enough in price that most people of average income can afford them. It took a while but it happened

As it stands only a few monitors and a couple DLP TVs can do "3D" right now.
