A combat system where all of the options available are actually relevant and useful at least some of the time. I won't hold my breath.
I want them to go back to a character class system where a particular charcter can only do certain things no matter how far into the game you are. Again, I won't hold my breath.
I really wish they would go back to having at least 4 characters in combat at once also. I can't understand why they have gotten so hung up on 3.
I would like for there to be the potential for meaningful character advancement (not just levels) even after you have gotten to the end of the game. Well, I only want this if they put in a bunch of extra side quests and stuff that are harder than the end boss...and they will.
No more hidden game mechanics (e.g. trading in loot to unlock items in Final Fantasy XII, never having the game tell you EXACTLY how your different attributes work).
I doubt any of these things will happen however.
I hated FFXII, there, I said it. I liked the turn based combat of old. It was what Final Fantasy was known for. If they brought that back, I'd be thrilled, that said, it's not going to happen. I liked that the story was the main focusand that combat was less scattered. Oh well, I'll probably buy it anyway.
i want changing armor to be reflected in the character model. i dont remember a ff game (besides xi) that can do this. its simple, but very rewarding.
i want turn based battles, but with a seemless transition from field to battle screen. maybe have the enemies run in from the side of the screen and take a formation that effects the way the battle is played (you could change your own party's formation to counter what the enemy party does).
other than those, i just want it to be good.
DEEP character customization and weapon building. Some hardcore porn and dacapitations wouldnt hurt either. _AbBaNdOn
You had me agreeing with the first line and then, "What the hell?"
I personally don't like Tetsuya Nomura's influence on the FF games. He's an amazing artist and awesome character designer, but I am not that fond of his games.
Honestly, I wish I was more excited about FFXIII. This is the first series FF game I'm not excited about. I was really excited about FFXII for example.
But FFXIII can be good so I won't pass a judgement on it until I play it or read reviews. But what I want in FFXIII is to go back to FF's roots and make a solid story about the characters like in FFIV and VI. I personally think technology has suffocated the FF games over the years. As they focus more on imagination with new technology, I think they forgot about what's most important in storytelling. That's just what I think.
It's ironic. By bringing more complex plots and storylines, the story itself suffers and becomes shallow, distancing the player from the characters and story. I can go on and on, but I think the Final Fantasy series has become just another Japanese anime series catering to a mainstream fanbase, but with extremely high production values.
The FF series doesn't feel the same to me anymore.
you and me both. I hated FFXII too, not just because of the battle system but also because the story line was so politically boring. I want turn based to return and as someone else said, what happen to the 4 characters on screen at once, it has now been reduced to 3, thats so stupid. Oh and i also want a good storyline this time around.I hated FFXII, there, I said it. I liked the turn based combat of old. It was what Final Fantasy was known for. If they brought that back, I'd be thrilled, that said, it's not going to happen. I liked that the story was the main focusand that combat was less scattered. Oh well, I'll probably buy it anyway.

An awesome soundtrack.
Oh, wait, that's already guarenteed, given who's doing it this time around. I'm personally hyping the game's soundtrack to be one of the best in the series (up alongside FFVI), because they're finally letting Masashi Hamauzu take the lead role for it.
