it's not, you claim music is something it's not. I give you proof, you should look at my proof and give me counter arguments. It's that simple
I post about this topic all the time. I totally agree. I don't know why modern game soundtracks are so addicted to this overblown orchestral shit. It's awful. I don't know whether melodic content is being devalued on purpose... or these composers just suck. There is wayyyy too much emphasis on texture over content. I don't get it. There are way more bad sound tracks these days than good ones. The AAA market in particular is horrendous. COD, BF, Gears, Watch Dogs, Destiny, Dragon Age, Mass Effect... they are all horrible.
What's the best video game song from the 00's? The Halo 1 theme? Maybe the first 30 second of it. Deadly Premonition had great music, so did Divinity 2: Ego Draconis. But who actually played those? Rayman Origins and Legends had some cute music-related content, too. But the musical trends are not good these days.
Generic orchestral music game about, along with generic 8/16bit throwback fad. There's good music out there in games, though. Mario Kart 8 and 3D World have GREAT music.
Persona 4 Golden Had great music and a catchy tune that plays mostly between events:
[Persona 4 OST] 09 - Like a dream come true
So, this thread was made by and for hipsters who think that all modern game soundtracks should be like the soundtracks of old vintage 8-bit and 16-bit games?
My God.
Something like that or it was made by someone who genuinely think that the old game music is better.
Rose tinted sunglasses.
Videogame music is better and more diverse now than it was ever before. It was too homoginized back in the 80s and 90s due to hardware restrictions.
Honestly, Shovel Knight has a better 8-bit inspired OST than most of the games in the 80s due to how it was 8-bit inspired and created via modern sensibilities; creating an excellent 8-bit OST to how we remember 8-bit music, rather than actually using the restrictions of hardware to recreate it.

Never played the game, but the soundtrack was pretty good. Though some of the tracks sounds too cheesy for my taste. I would buy it when ever Atlus puts it (and Radiant Historia) on itunes. Too much of a hassle to buy from the japanese webstore.
Some games still have good music. But I remember even bad games still having memorable music back then.
