Final Fantasy X would be good

Why do people like jrpg's, there often not original, are overdramatic, and have been edited terribly so that plot points are repetitive
Nice broad stereotype there.Since I'm going to avoid simply repeating games that have been listed here numerous times, I'll just go with Devil May Cry. I think it would make a great action movie.
Many of these responses aren't putting the story into the perspective of film. I honestly think a God of War movie would be horrible, even worse than 300, the story simply wouldn't work, especially as a live action movie.
A game like Bioshock on the other hand, is rich enough, with a setting so well thought out, that you could adapt it and manipulate it in a more cinematic way, it has the potential to work- but NOT as in the way the narrative is now. The audio diary narrative is not something that would work for the length of a movie, and you would need more on-screen characters with the protagonist, Jack.
Also, a game like Metal Gear Solid, would probably not work as a movie, unless they overhaul much about it. It's too convoluted and melodramatic as it is now.

I kind of agree with you, especially about God of War. And Bioshock I think could make a good movie, although I haven't finished the game yet, still partway through. But I've seen enough to think it might work. It'll need to be different, like you said, but that's not a bad thing. But that's what people are afraid of when they make a game based movie, they don't want things to change. And because of that, any game based movie is doomed to fail, no matter how well done it is.
God of War could work as well, but they'll need to make some changes. Keeping him in one temple alone for a whole movie won't work. But I just don't see the point. They'll need to change so much, that they may as well make an original movie based on Greek mythology themselves.

Rainbow Six
Bridgelayer
I like the idea of a Rainbow Six movie franchise.
In my case, I am referring to a movie based on the book/1st R6 game. It has been in the works for some 11 years now, but which a director hasn't been settled on.:|It's make a great movie... just string all the cut scenes together. It's already two thirds movie as it is. Whether it'd become popular is a different matter. ;)Also, a game like Metal Gear Solid, would probably not work as a movie, unless they overhaul much about it. It's too convoluted and melodramatic as it is now.

No. I'm sorry, but that was my whole point, that you can't simply slap the movie together from the game like that. Even if it acts or sounds like a movie, with all its cutscenes, it should be understood that the story elements that work in the game, enter a whole different league of perception on film. A game is all animated, and you're just playing for fun and to kill people, etc.
With a movie, you go for the story and the experience. Metal Gear has elements of a good story, but you would need to overhaul the entire thing. It may not seem like you would, but characters like Solid Snake (trust me) won't adapt to the screen as well as you think (it also doesn't help that in some ways, he's a rehash of Kurt Russel's character from Escape from New York). Crap like the Metal Gear itself is just too over-the-top to be taken seriously (it roars like a trex and fires missles from it's shoulders...?), as well as a cyborg ninja who front flips over office cubicles while a trapped anime-loving scientist pisses in his pants nearby...

Nice broad stereotype there.Well Final Fantasy and many others follow this trend so its not a stereotype its the truth.
And don't counter me by saying "Haha! western games have story flaws too!" I'm not insinuating they don't.
I just don't understand the frivolous cheesyness these games possess, and how anyone could be excited by turn based PERSONAL combat, in a large scale strategy setting yes, but turn based is too bland, sure there is strategy, but no excitement.
For god's sakes all the non-evilmen look like women and all the women have the voices of six year old girls! Oh yeah thats movie material... NOTTT!!!

some people find the extreme, over-dramatic and over-the-top action to be a nice change from the super-realistic. yeah it makes no sense but that's what makes it fun. there are a lot of reoccurring themes but the same can be said for most genres; it comes with the territory. and as for the turn-based combat, it simply isn't for everyone, you either like it or you don't and nothing anyone says can change your mind, i'm sure, so to each his own. but if you're going to tear down someone's favorite style of game you can expect a lot of fire from a lot of people, so be polite, please.Nice broad stereotype there.[QUOTE="DarthJohnova"][QUOTE="fmos9"]

Assassin's Creed, preferably 2.reyad-uthey have a prequel to AC2 on xbox live, series of short films, it is pretty cool, didn't know if you have seen them yet or not

Probably for the same reason why I would, the plot is the same, even if all the missions do not match each other in the book and game.
