Sports for me. [QUOTE="DJ_Lae"]Sports games. If I want to play sports, I'll go outside.Delirium_Haha, that's exactly it!
I agree, and with all the people who have made similar points.
In a world where people don't go out and experience nature much anyway, I think it's quite sad that things like Wii fit are proclaimed like the second coming - it kind of sickens me. If you want to work up a sweat, go out side, get some fresh air, meet some other humans, and experience the feel of soft grass or uneven rock beneath your feet. I think thats far more healthy.
These are similar to my reasons for being greatly apprehensive of increased motion controls or immersive type games.
I don't hate any genre at all, but my least favorite is the social/sim kind of game. Take for instance, The Sims or Viva Pinata. That isn't to say that I didn't enjoy the few hours I put into those games. They were unique that's for sure, but I didn't feel like playing them again after a day or two and I just moved on to other games. I'd say strategy games are up there too. I just hate the drawn out conflicts and more or less watching it play out while you give a few commands. I enjoy being an active participant which makes shooter and action gameplay more up my alley. Normally I would also include Sports or Racing, but those can be a lot of fun with other people so I have to say that it's probably a toss up between Strategy and Sim games.
Personally I don't like singing games. Love the Guitar Hero/Rock Band stuff, just not the vocals stuff for some reason.
Mainly fighting games. I only have a good time with those when I play with my friends - but since most of my friends don't really play much anymore, I don't see any enjoyment for me to play these games. And then there is also the racing games, not really a big fan of those.
I notice a lot of people saying sports. That's interesting to me because I actually enjoy a good sports game even though I don't actually keep up with or even watch any sports.
My favorites are probably soccer, hockey, and golf. Man, now I kind of really want to play some FIFA. Dammit. :P
+1 I'm not a big platformer either, though I really enjoyed Prince of Persia (2008).My least favorite has to be racing. I just don't have any fun with racing games, and avoid them like the plague. How about you guys?

sports games, I really have trouble figuring out why people dont just go outside and play sports instead of playing it on a console...
Sports strikes me as the only genre of games that is possible in real life.
Some people who enjoy sports games actually do play sports as well. My brother and his group of friends love sports. Playing basketball, football, baseball, bowling, golf...if it's a sport either my brother or one of his friends plays AND they play only sports games. Trust me, I don't get it myself. Madden 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012....NB2K to infinity. Each sports game comes out each year and they're out at midnight purchasing it. There are weekly tournaments and lots ot trash talking, so I get the community aspect of it, but what's the difference between one year and the next? I often tease my brother, making him detail those differences and often it has to do with the improved realism of the grass or some other such thing.sports games, I really have trouble figuring out why people dont just go outside and play sports instead of playing it on a console...

He's tried other genres and he beats the game, then sells them. So I guess he just likes sports genre above all others (besides Rock Band/Guitar Hero/DJ Hero
I'm pretty limited in my genres but I absolutely can't stand fantasy. Too bad most RPG's are fantasy based.

What about music games? ;)
I don't understand how people can not like a type of game because it can be done in real life. Computer gaming and real life are so far removed from each other it's not even worth comparing. People p[lay computer games to enjoy an experience, not as a replacement for a real life activity. I can swing a golf club or baseball bat with much greater skill on a console than in real life :) That said I still thoroughly enjoy both. Maybe someone loves cricket but they don't have enough friends who want to play frequently enough so they extend their hobby to computer games. That way they get to enjoy an aspect of the sport they love. They get to see the atmosphere of a sporting event they love, play as their team, etc.
By your argument people shouldn't read aboutsport in a newspaper or book. Or watch it on TV, or attend an event as they could just go out and do it.
I know that's taking your argument to the extreme and that's not what you're saying but comments comparing going out and playing sport in real life vs playing it on a console drive me nuts. They are two completely different things. Not everyone who likes playing sport likes sport computer games and not everyone who likes sport computer games likes going out and playing sport.
That statement is just plain dumb. Firstly, playing a sports game on a console is nothing like playing a real sport. Most real sports are alot less accessible than console sports games. I dont know about you, but I find it pretty difficult to go outside and find someone to box with without getting my face smashed in. I suck at boxing in real life(I'm assuming, I've never actually tried to box before) but I can play Fight Night and have loads of fun with it. I completely suck at Tennis and hate playing it, but I love Virtua Tennis. Using a controller to play a virtual sport is nothing like playing the actual sport so saying someone should play an actual sport instead of a console sport game is just stupid.sports games, I really have trouble figuring out why people dont just go outside and play sports instead of playing it on a console...
