I've been thinking about all these remakes and remasters lately. Got me wondering about those classic PC games we used to play back in the day. You know, the ones with killer gameplay but graphics that look ancient now. What old-school PC game do you guys think really needs a fresh coat of paint? I'm talking full remake, not just a remaster. Like, imagine your favorite childhood game with today's graphics and maybe some updated mechanics. What game would you love to see brought back to life? Personally, I've got a few in mind, but I'm curious what you all think.

Indeed seems sus. Same description as the 'What older PC game deserves a modern remake?' thread.

As for the title question though depends what one deems as recent. I like Conscript but didn't blow my mind & either did Crow Country (I like them both though).

When I think of Indies that blew me away Signalis, Sifu, The Outer Wilds, & Valheim come to mind.

Definitly. And the first post is the same as a thread the TC made before. Plus, the TC Doesn't post very often. I'm 100% sure this is a bot.

To answer the question, recent (recent to me, at least :D )indie games I've played and enjoyed are:

  • Flintlock: Siege of Dawn
  • The Crust
  • Dave the Diver
  • Lightyear Frontier
  • Teardown

Oh yes, those were all excellent (though I still need to try Sifu, I hear good things. The aging mechanic sounds really cool).

Please show me when I called you a Bot?! Because that never happened.

Noted it looked suspicious, and it does. You can't be unaware of this..

You reused the same description in two Posts (provided in #4 link)

Description used_

This nothing to do with the subject matter "What indie game totally blew your mind recently?"

Still answered the question, and continued the conversation in a healthy and productive manner as if the error was minor.

you should join gaming forums....

Gaming Forums can be very fun with all the opinions and passion from differing walks of life. With so many differing outlooks though, errors will be picked up by the community, conversations can go in many differing directions. Sometimes feathers will be ruffled. I find it best not to take it personally and just try to address the manner in a rational and sensible way.

So with that discussed, does anyone else want to go back chatting about Indie games?

I'm not sure about mind blowing, but Animal Well is kind of cool. It has a gorgeous style with many things to react to your character and observe, and a lot of different mechanics. If you like puzzles and a mostly chill experience then check it out. I'm not a huge fan of puzzles but this isn't so bad, the style and unique situations keep me going.

I haven't tried Conscript or Crow Country yet, but they sound interesting. Signalis, Sifu, The Outer Wilds, and Valheim are all fantastic picks! Each of those games has something unique that makes them stand out.

@dannyjames11: Crow Country and Conscript are both Indie Survival Horror games with interesting takes on the genre. They're both generally pretty great if just holding onto the status quo a little too tightly.

In concept Conscript is perhaps the more interesting out the two. As it has zero supernatural/ sci fi elements standard of the genre. Conscript is brutally grounded, based on historical events from the Battle of Verdun.

Signalis, Sifu, The Outer Wilds and Valheim are some of my favorite games ever made. I think about each fairly often. I would gladly revisit any those games in a heartbeat.

I tried starting that game 4 times because of people saying great things about it, but I wasn't able to get into it. I'm almost ready to watch a full playthrough as a way to experience it at this point but I still feel like I would he cheating myself out of the experience.

@vandnajadhav: couple of things. You’re assuming we’re judging you as a bot. Nobody can do that with 100% accuracy because we can’t be sure. But you’re posting in the same methodology as all your posts. You say you are a game developer?? Can you post/link some of your game(s)??

Personally I’ve worked on a fighting game and have also made a Half-Life 1 mod. I don’t work on game development anymore, however.

@kathaariancode: Probably 8 hours

I landed on a few places and was exploring, didn't get much of any type of progress that I could see. In fact I was getting stranded a lot. I guess it's a physicsy game but I was not getting a lot of fun out of the physics. Maybe I gotta git gud

@girlusocrazy: The Outer Wilds is very much about exploration and just figuring stuff out, for progression it has a lot of back and forth. You find clues and missing pieces.

I don't really watch playthroughs, as I'm a big fan of figuring stuff out on my own, but if that's the way you like to enjoy some games, have at it. No judgement from me, no right or wrong way to enjoy a game (so long as it's not cheating in a multiplayer game) Never cared for the git gud take. Everyone is going to have differing tastes, interests, and comfortable with different gaming genres.

@girlusocrazy: To me it's all about exploration and figuring stuff out. If in 8 hours it didn't clicked I don't think it's for you. At least my experience, after my first "death", was purely motivated by curiosity and never a game felt so rewarding to progress.

@mrbojangles25: @RSM-HQ: @vandnajadhav: Not pointing figures here, if there's a problem, you are all welcome to discuss this manner by clicking the kink to "Contact the moderators" and that is all.

As for you TC, I don't really know you. As far as I'm concern, you didn't try to sneak in a malware link of any kind, so that tells me your fine. (At least I hope you are genuine)

As for the thread, here's my Indie game that blew my mind:

  • Hellblade
  • Narita Boy
  • Journey
  • Ori and the Blind Forest (the sequel was disappointing)
  • Minecraft (before the time when MS bought them out)
  • Resogun
  • Cuphead
  • Transistor
  • Outer Wilds
  • TMNT: Shredder's revenge (so looking forward to Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind)
  • SuperHot: Mind (that Indie was too much fun!)
  • Undertale
  • Shank
  • Icey (underrated Indie that was really great IMO)
  • Baldur's Gate 3 (It's debatable despite being Indie class, rather you think it is, is up to you)
  • Pizza tower (gives me that Ed, Edd, & Eddy vibe on the tone the style it was going for)
  • Timbo: The Badass Elephant
  • Hades 2 (Technically in Early Access)
  • Limbo
  • Child of Light (One of Ubisoft's good Indie game)

Yep, I've played lots of Indie games.

@davillain: Baldur's Gate III was never Indie, you're thinking of Larians previous game Divinity: Original Sin II which required a Kickstarter. BG3 had several partners for publishing and development funding. During development they held events called Panel of Hell in which they showed progress to the public and finical representatives.

A lot of your list isn't Indie, but I really don't want to make a big deal over it. It's a nice list of games regardless.

Yeah the "independent" label can be tough to apply sometimes.

Technically, and if you want to be a stickler (as I tend to be), it means the game must be self-published so therefore developer = publisher.

Though now we have "independent publishers"--Devolver, Coffee Stain, etc--which seems like an oxymoron in many ways. But the spirit of being an independently-made game is still there.

And what is "the spirit of an independent" game? I don't know lol. Someone gave me shit once for saying that a game or music "felt indy" and they're like "Oh well nothing can feel indy, it's just a technicality" and I'm like "Dude, you're not wrong, but neither am I".

It's weird but I'm OK with the term being somewhat fluid.

It's the reason why I said Baldur's Gate 3 is debatable if its classify as Indie or not. Minecraft is Indie in my eyes but that was before MS took over. Even Hellblade 1 at the time was label as Indie but if its not the case, that's fine.

But taking from the notes of Pedro's book. A game is a game I supposed since he's not wrong.

@vandnajadhav: Water under the bridge.

We've had a few people who're game developers in forums, it's more common than you might imagine.

*Regardless wouldn't recommend using A.I. for write-ups. Or at the very least, proof read what your posting. Wouldn't want them being marked as spam by a moderator.

@vandnajadhav: Just write what you are feeling that just happens to be in relation to gaming.

It's called Games Discussion so just whatever is on your mind, and what you think would make interesting or a fun discussion.

Maybe a game of interest for you and make a discussion out of it with the community.

For me it's not at all about gathering data or research though.

The only reason I stick with gaming forums is because I like chatting about games almost as much as playing them. And love seeing all the different takes on any given subject. For me it's not about 'I'm right and you're wrong' mentality and more 'this is my take, what's yours?'

*On the subject of gaming discussions; a pet peeve I do have with Game Spot forums in particular is you'll see a few who haven't played a game & yet contribute towards a subject/ game as if they have played. Giving wildly misleading information on a game based on assumption/ or because they've watched some Influencer ramble about a game (aka second-hand takes). I've never been a fan of chatting with those that don't even know what they're typing about. One that always springs to mind is a few Users 'even now' call Gen5 & even the upcoming Gen6 Monster Hunter games "open world"... wish I could slap them through the monitor.

@nirgal: OP asking how to post & comment is pretty weird, it can also be seen as asking general advice because they're intimidated on the accusations from this discussion.

If you think it's an issue however, and picked up on something we haven't? contact a moderator as Davillain noted in #27. Let's keep these chats about the topic though. Which is Indie games.

Faith: the Unholy Trinity got a console port this week, good stuff! I really like that game, it's very niche and think many fans of the genre will love checking it out. Has some clever mechanics, art direction, and the music is just stellar! Only a Switch port though is an odd move. Survival Horror games sell well on PlayStation & I would have rebought it on PS5 for the achievements alone. We've seen many Indie Survival Horror games port the game to every major device possible so for Faith to not follow as well is an odd move. Do I want to rebuy Faith on Switch?.. not sure, nice collectors edition though.
