I would say Super Mario World. I played DKC and wasnt impressed with it. Also Super Metroid is not a platformer, its an action/adventure.

Scythes777

Then I'll replace Super Metroid with Donkey Kong Country.

I definately believe that Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island is the best 2D platformer ever. Honourable mentions include:

-Rayman (the original)

-Super MarioWorld

-Donkey Kong Country

My favourite 2D platformer would have to be Sonic 1 (Mega Drive), just simply amazing in all ways.

'super mario bros. 3' probably.. or 'super mario world'.

i would count super metroid more as an adventure/exploration game.. same with castlevania. but they are technically 'platformers' as well.

It would be between Mario 3, Castlevania SOTN, or Sonic The Hedgehog 2.

Now, my favorite side scrolling platformer is (though it's 3D) is the original Klonoa.

I love the 2d metroids more than basically any 2d game (even the gameboy ones) they were all great. One of the few 2d game I like to go back and play.

Well because I never played the original on SNES, I'd say Super Mario Advanced 4: Super Mario World, I completed that game 100%, got every dragon coin, every secret level, damn I wish I still had that game..

That's easy, Super Mario Bros. I put the most time in that 2D platformer, but I also loved the original Ninja Gaiden and The Revenge of Shinobi(Saturn).

Ditto for SotN. The megaman series counts as a platformer, right?

Jazz Jackrabbit 2. It takes the best from Sonic and Mario, has a terrific soundtrack and gameplay, looks dandy, and comes with the best level creator I've worked with in any game.

Honourable mentions go out to Super Mario 3 and Super Paper Mario.

Probably Hunter Hunted or Sonic, the Mario series is slightly overrated to me, the same game is reproduced every few years with different graphics.

Donkey Kong Country 2 Diddy's Kong Quest. Back in the day there was none better. Donkey Kong Country was great but the Sequel really stepped it up a notch.
