1: containing more words than necessary, impaired by wordiness .

2: given to wordiness .

Suuuure. See, reading someones opinion as to why it's on their list is far more interesting than reading just a list.

Agreed, that was unnecessary. At least you stated why, more than everyone else did.

Burnout 3 FTW! if it wasn't for that game, I might never have got into Fall Out Boy or My Chemical Romance. Lots of other great songs by bands I'd barely heard of.

Any Halo game, hands down. But I would like to give a special mention to some Zelda game soundtracks, while not as sophisticated as other games, they really give great atmosphere appropriate to the fantasy game genre. There are a LOT of good game soundtracks out there now though.

Brutal Legend, hate the game, love the soundtrack. Also, the Metal Gear Solid 4 sountrack and the Mass Effect soundtrack are really both really epic.

Zelda: A Link to the Past. I haven't played the game in 20 years and I still distinctly remember EVERY tun in the game. Listen to this music and then tell me it isn't the best original sountrack ever.

Dark World theme

Hyrule overworld

Hyrule castle

That's pretty epic for a 16 bit game

I like a lot of Street Fighter 4's, it captures the hyper OTT Japanese goofiness of it all perfectly.

One of the best pieces of music or ambiance I can recall was in the rarther avarage game Chas Legions. I loved the Forest Monks track that played in one of the stages, it's awesome, the track made it the best part of the game, which it was anyway because it was the only part you get to run about as the girl with the frilly skirt and two guns for a welcome change of pace.

as to how it contributed to the game? my top 2 would be shadow of the colossus and kotor. the score for sotc recognises what the flow of the game is and what is emphasised. the game consists of traveling through a dead and empty land and then trying to take on a giant. they wisely used no music for the overworld to give an empty feeling. however, there was a lot of care put into music for the colossus battles. there were themes for each stage of the fight (staring it down, engaging, climbing, aftermath, etc...). it was a really well contructed score. kotor is another great score. sure, there were samples from the movie score, but they were well implemented (using the skywalker theme for the first time you take off in the ebon hawk, for example). soule recognised the strauss tone poem style and structure and added in all sorts of leitmotifs to give the game an epic feel. he also recognised that williams deliberately avoided the sci-fi nature to go with the more epic full orchestra (which was surprisingly well orchestrated considering soule didnt have an orchestra to work with :P ).

Super Smash Bros. Brawl is the pretty obvious (but cheap) choice here.

Other than Brawl I would have to go with either Dynamite Headdy or Dragon Quest 8.

SotC because the music really brought you into the fight. honorable mentions include:

-Prince of Persia Sands of Time (esp. the end song, Time Only Knows)

-No More Heroes

-Beyond Good and Evil

Ico(again the end song was amazing)

I am starting to really like Uncharted : Drakes Fortune as a Soundtrack. I also like the quality of the voice acting, and the 5.1 works real well with this game.
