Wow... Good question! Well, there are probably longer games out there... but Grandia! I pretty much ran through it and it still took me 40+hours to get to the final boss. It has a feel to it that says "Surely there can't be more world map! =o"

an rpg is very long followed by a simulation racer or sandbox style game A.K.A. action adventure (GTA, Saints Row, True Crime)

Maybe Daggerfall since the game was the size of England. But the other two were pretty tiny.

Wow that is a very long time to spend on one game. A game like that can take some serious determination.

My first time with RE4 took like 50 hours somehow, I guess I was looking at every nook for treasures, and backtracking. However, I got it down to like around 10 hours later on. I played on both GC and PS2.

The world size of a game does not necessarily correspond to the length of said game. How are the two "tiny" when you compare them to the majority of games? Daggerfall is one of the very, very few games that are in fact "larger." Anyways... "longest" is a very relative term. For me, it would probably apply to Morrowind.

Could be any of the Disgaea games and also Star Ocean on the PSX. Especially on the Universal mode and fighting Indalecio.

Daggerfall is irrelavent anyway, considering at least 95% of the places and people were randomly generated...

Na, he said no MMOs. The longest game I've ever played is Disgaea. You can get up to level 9999 (or something like that), and there are SOOO many levels to explore. 100+ hours invested in that game.

Haha. So true about Duck Hunt. The longest game I've ever played in one sitting is Super Mario Bros. 3. The longest accumulated game time I've had was on Final Fantasy XII with a total of 120 hours.

The main quest is 50 to 60 hours long for the average player, and 100 hours is understandable if he went for every peice of heart, rupee, item, and side quest the game had to offer. To answer the question, hm, Majora's Mask took me a long, long time, but I sucked back then, so I guess Morrowind, that one Dragon Quest game on the PS2, Twilight Princess, Wind Waker, Oblivion, Fallout 3, and Mass Effect. Note that the lengths listed does not just apply to the main quest, but rather all the content as a whole and how long it would take to do everything.

I think at the end it would come down to a game that requires leveling up I mean games like zelda can be really long depending on what you want to accomplish and how good you are but I think games like Final Fantasy, Oblivion etc are extremely long plus not just a simple case of getting to the end often you have to just mindlessly fight to be strong enough to get through parts of the game take Final Fantasy viii unless you want to be lucky and try using The End only real way to defeat the Ultimate weapon and Ultimecia etc is to get Squall or Zell up to a really high level so their doing about 9999 with their overdrive

For legacy systems we must consider a time when you couldn't save. This meant that a game had to be played from beginning to end in one sitting which could take a very long time like with the Ninja Gaiden series.

I heard that Xeno Saga or was it Xeno Gears, takes 84 hours. Of course RPGs will always take much longer then other genres of games. For me it Okami. Except for time wasted in Sai-an city looking for the final cherry blossom, I did none of the side quests and it still took me 62 hours. Every time I entered a new map I was sure that it was the end but nope! Damn that game is awesome! It took me over 50 hours to finish Twilight princess. And I am now past 40 hours of Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door. A friend of mine once played Wind Waker for 10 hours and we hadn't noticed! By the end of it it was 4am and I had to stay over because the buses were no longer running. I personally can't play more than 4 hours strait without my legs hurting and getting a headache which happened a lot when play Metal Gear Solid 3 because I completely zone out with that game, I wish I could live in that game.

From recent memory, I'm thinking Tales of Symphonia. It was a very satisfyingly long RPG. Probably the longest I've ever played, personally.

Star Ocean; Till The End Of time Can take a while to complete. As a RPG fan, I think it took me around 80 hours for the main game, not including deaths or resets. If you do the post game dungeons it's pretty easy to get over 100 hours. Though to be fair, item creation skews the numbers. Bunny races could also add time too, if you wanted certain items and had a turbo controller.

I don't think there exists a game that can be concretely said to be longer than Ancient Domains of Mystery, not even factoring in failure and replay value. Using the log files of the three successful runs I have ever completed as data points (and one from a friend), the games takes an average of about 160,000 "turns" to complete. Assuming each of these turns takes only one second to execute, the game still lasts for 46 hours.

No it's a pretty long game. Especially if you're going for 100% completion. It's certainly one of the longest games I've ever played. Most would dissagree, but for me, Chrono Trigger seems like it never ends! I've been playing that game for at least 80 hours and it still keeps chuggin' along.f

That I've played? Either KOTOR, Chrono Trigger, or Final Fantasy IV.
