By emotional I mean you felt a strong emotion, may it be crying of sadness, happiness, filled you with joy, made you feel really angry at something in the game, etc...

In my case it would be a toss up between MGS4 and Shadow of the Colossus

MGS4 made me tear at different occasions and feel desperate (microwave tunnel ;)) and Shadow of the Colossus was just an epic journey of a lonely man seeking to bring back his love. throughout that game i always felt almost in the characters skin, holding on for dear life and running through the plain with only the horse and the wind.

What about you? what is your most emotional experience? Why?

though question man... NES games always made me angry (because I was a small kid, a lot of games were very hard and there was no save feature, so it was play it like 6 hours in a row and beat it in one sit)...

FFX story was touching... and after playing it like 100 hours you end up caring for the characters... listening "To Zanarkand" still makes me sad...

Silent Hill 3 got me all stressed whenever the world change from normal to hell-ish.. mostly because of Heather.

Oh and lately I got really mad when in Fable2 *SPOILER* that damn dude killed my dog, luckily was brought back with the right ending choice... but they didn't bring back Rose, I liked her even she's only like 15 minutes at the beginning of the game (because of her voice)*/SPOILER*

that's the ones I remember right now

Final Fantasy 10-because it was sad. MGS4-this game produced such a mix of emotions it's hard to pick just one.

Silent hill 2&3. because those two games actually had a depth and complexity and emotional attachment most games do not,on par with books and movies. And since they are both interactive I was actually closer to it than with a book or movie.

Probably Final Fantasy VI, many of the characters in that game have some sort of sad story associated with them. And the plot twist in Final Fantasy VII was sad too, even though I knew about it in advance.

Final Fantasy VII. Most cliche answer ever, I know. Honestly though, that's the only game I remember getting really emotional about. Metal Gear Solid (all of 'em) definitely had their moments.

I've heard people say that they didn't even read those anecdotes because they were text. I couldn't believe it because if they did them any other way I don't think they would have had such an impact.

the halo series (specially 3) caused a feeling of heroism in me, it's really cool, and the ending was so amazing, i loved it. Ocarina of time may be the most important game in my life, it was my first game, and though I didn't understand a word (I didn't speak English by that time) I loved it, also the ending made me really sad :(

I found Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 2 to be pretty emotional when I was younger, because I was really drawn in to the stories and was attached to the characters at some points. As for now, nothing really gets to me on that level as far as video games go except when I play fighting games and get so angry that I want to chuck something across the room, though I'm not sure that really counts.

i could say fallout 3, since the story depends on your decisions. I tend to side with the good and whenever i kill good npcs i feel real bad, or in this case the quest "The Power of the Atom" i felt quite bad when i chose to detonate the bomb. what happened was, i just reloaded the game and disarmed the bomb on megaton instead. i got drawn in to the game and sometimes, i feel like im transported to the post nuclear era.

I think it has to be Final Fantasy VI, because thematically, it deals with pain, loss, death, and despair, especially in the second half of the game. The two main female characters (Terra and Celes) really drive the story's emotional arc, and the other characters struggles play a huge part as well. Nearly almost every main character deals with a loss....Terra her kin, Celes loses Cid and maybe Leo, Locke loses Rachel, Cyan has his family murdered, Setzer loses Daryl, the Figaro bros have losses, Strago thinks Relm died..... Scenes such as the Phantom Train leaving the station, Rachel saying goodbye, Terra caring for the oprhans, and probably the most emotional was the Celes's attempted suicide. I liked how all the characters have an epic or uppity theme, except for Celes.....her theme is more sad, a sad version of the opera house tune. And Kefka is probably the best villian in the history of gaming....he is just so evil that he enjoys watching others in despair, without remorse and even jokes about it. But one of the things I hate about the original american relase is the censorship...especially on the suicide scene which was a "leap of faith"....which may actually be encouraging of her leap instead of condemning it or feeling for her. The straight Japanese translation is the best.....

Full of Spoilers here so if you haven't played the game dont read!

FF7 = When you know who dies and at the end. Great story.

MGS = When snake finds out what he is and about fox die I just felt terrible for the guy. It was like the whole world was aganist him.

MGS 3 = Every time you fight The Boss is emotional. Especially the last fight and the ending with Big Boss saluting her grave.

LBP = nothing but joy playing this game

Madden = I feel like punching my dog in the head after losing an online game.

she was just called "the boss", which is why he was named "big boss" and it was a tragic =[

i felt MGS3 and 4, FFX were the most emotional games i had ever played.

Funny, but I came into this thread meaning to mention Shadow of the Colossus, but you already did it for me. It is without a doubt the most emotional game I have yet to play. It not only spoke volumes about just the characters within it but after playing through the game, but after wandering around for ages looking for these massive colossi you have to beat this game turns into an, and I may regret this, almost spiritual experience.

Anju and Kafei. Majora's Mask. The hardest side quest in the game with its best reward being that last little cutscene. But man, that cut scene just touched my heart.

Probably the most emotional Zelda scene ever...I actually like Majora Mask the most out of the 3d Zeldas.

Also the ending to Brother in Arms Hells Highway...wow. Never seen a male lead (in the case a US solider) tear up.

Final Fantasy VI was one of the first games that came to mind for me as well. I'm glad other people said it because now I don't feel like I'm out of my mind or just being contrarian for choosing it over newer games with realistic cut scenes.

Hmm, I guess I could say God Of War. I can't really say why, I just kinda felt bad for Kratos and I felt he deserved to have his nightmares taken away.

Its a shame that for many people, they haven't played any FF's before FFVII, which I found overrated. I think it has one of the worst stories of the series. I think if it wasn't for Aeris's murder, it would be less popular. Aeris's death is a great scene and shocking twist though. But I find the lead character, Cloud, a good character and Aeris and Tifa are great, but Barrett is an awful character. sephiroth, while cool, its not a great villian. I do think it has the best gameplay in the series though. VIII had a good story and so did the later games but they are no where near as good as FFVI's. FFVI was something else....where they kept the metaphysics and the mysticism to focus on the humanity of the characters, which I am afraid XIII won't do. But I have a little hope with a female lead and what looks like a great supporting character in Oerba Vanille. The only mysticism in VI is the power of the Espers and the statues, which actually help develop Terra's character. Other than that, its all about the characters. The newer games stories aren't as good because they put less focus on the characters and more on the mysticism, although I think Rinoa and Squalls relationship has its moments in VIII and the endings to IX and X are awesome. FFVI's theme of loss was well done and its moments I may have in my head for the rest of my life. While I played the original copy back in 1994, it is the real translation that unlocked the true power of the game. The GBA version was okay, better than the SNES version....but I like the real translation. Here is an example......Celes's suicide scene...uncensored. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3BWIEm_i2U SNES version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8aVUM0CcfiA I think this is probably one of if not the most emotional moments I have seen in a game.

Valkyria Chronicles was also touching with a good story behind it. Persona 3 and 4 were also good.

Metgal Gear Solid 4, defintely.
Snakes Apparent Suicide was the saddest thing I ever seen in a video game. It was the only thing that really got me actually sad. Of course it went away when he didn't actually shoot himself, but the emotion I felt the first time watching that was unlike anything any other video game could do.
That's fair - VI and the other's were great. For some reason though, VII just resonated - I feel like it was my Bambi's mom moment haha. Part of it was probably because it was so cinematic.

If VI was cinematic, there would have been no question which game would have been the most remembered. I think VI needs a remake more than VII does, with even more development to the characters. The only problem I had with VI's story line was, whatever happened to Banon? and I also found that the character of Ultros was too silly of the tone of the game. I also would have liked a second split paths point, like early in the game, but taking place after the party decides to go to the magic continent right after the "peace" deal with the Empire. The first should have been as is, from Terra's perspective with Locke and Shadow. But their should have been also a scenario involving Celes and Leo (which would make his death even more stinging), and another scenario dealing with the rest of the party escaping from the empire, explaining the loss of Banon. They would then meet in Thamasa after Kefka slays Leo and enslaves the Espers.

Bioshock is another game that can stir emotions...I think one of the saddest is in the beginning where a splicer is ranting about her lost baby over a baby carriage....you only see the shadow of her and the carriage. I think Bioshock has the greatest story in a video game since FFVI, and by far it is one of the best games of the decade. I actually think Bioshock 2 Sea of Dreams may be more emotional, especially if they explore more storyline about the Little Sisters.

Half Life 2 series, it just tugs at your heart strings in sooo many ways, Alyx makes you happy, Kleiner makes you laugh, Wli makes you proud, and then at the end of Episode 2, if you've been following really closely you'll bawl out into tears.

LO- the 1000 years of dreams was truly epic, whoever wrote those is a genious.

The metal gear solid series- (Grey fox in mgs1, Olga/Emma in mgs2, boss mgs3, pretty much all of mg4s).

The ending to FFIV.

Resident Evil 2- I guess when Ada dies (killed by the tyrant, not falling from the platform).

That's all I can think of at the moment.

Its a fan created translation...and it is so much better and more realistic. There is more talk of death, Kefka (which is Cefca in this version) can say "kill them" unlike the censored NOA version. Edgars sexual comments are more apparant and their is some language (they took out the worst language in the newer patches, which is okay). Also, there is a new title screen with Celes standing on the beach in her opera dress on solitary island, looking almost as good as the FMV still for FF Anthology. I have played up until the start of Sabin's scenario...but this translation is so far so very good. I had to get used to the espers being called phantom beasts though.

I had to get used to the espers being called phantom beasts though.texasgoldrush

Sounds interesting, but I've already played the game so much that I'll probably just wait for the inevitable official remake. I don't think different text is enough to make me play through the game again at this point, especially given that I'm relatively sure they are going to remake all of them up to IX (or at the very least VII) in the not too distant future.
