Yusha - Heaven's Gate on the PlayStation. That experience was pretty darn horrifying.

[QUOTE="Paladin_King"] I'm seriously shocked at how many people are saying that FEAR is the scariest game they've ever played. Clearly you guys haven't been playing horror games, at all. Condemned is basically a scarier FEAR. Siren or any Fatal Frame or Silent Hill is far worse. FEAR barely even qualifies as a horror game.nini200

You and me, we're the same. It seems most of these people started with horror games on the 360.
I laugh every time (And lose hope in gaming) when people shout DEAD SPACE or FEAR(2) or BIOSHOCK
Those aren't even scary, let alone good horror games. Are they even c.lassified as horror games?

Dead Space was tense for like 5 minutes. Afterwards, it gets dull. You know where they'll be coming out of and since almost every single one of them die the same way, they become boring creatures. Hell, after fully upgrading my default weapon (Best weapon in the game IMO), nothing even tried to stand up after a few shots. Good atmosphere, though.

I'm not even going to bother with Fear(2) and Bioshock. At least Dead Space TRIED to be a horror game.

I completely agree with you on the new games aren't even considered horror games by me logic. I just wanted to point out that if you got the best weapon in the game (I know you said IMO, I'm just stating another point), of course nothing's going to withstand more than a few shots. That's like me saying, "Yeah, the creatures in resident evil got real boring because they wouldn't take more than two shots to kill, Oh, did I mention I'm using the Fully Upgraded Rocket Launcher".

I'm going to have to disagree on that part. What you're saying is that it's my fault for upgrading my weapon of choice.
Resident Evil Fully Upgraded rocket Launcher is (4 and 5 f.e) is only available after one or more playthrough. After playing the game a couple of times, you get the chance to spend your money on cheap weapons, since hey, you know what will happen anyway. You've already finished the game in the way you're supposed to.

Dead Space puts money in the game so you CAN upgrade your weapons/armor/whatever. You're SUPPOSED to spend your money on equipment in order to make them stronger and better. You can't blame me for doing what I'm supposed to do with the money. What you're saying is that I shouldn't have used the money, since the game gets boring that way.

Then it's their fault for making the game like that, not my fault for spending the money I earned in my weaponary. Want to keep the game fun? Stop spawning the same creature (with same HP and everything) over and over again for the entire game, since I'm stronger than I was.

That's like saying: HEY! STOP GRABBING THOSE MUSHROOMS IN SMB! THE GAME BECOMES EASIER THAT WAY!

Silent Hill 2 was my first horror game and still is the scariest I've ever played. I haven't played any of the newer ones though but once I do my opinion will probably change. The mannequin things from Condemned though were really scary too.

I couldn't agree more. It makes me think that all the leaps the horror genre has been through over the years have been for nothing every time someone lists games like this as the scariest game they've ever played. Horror gaming has such a rich history that just is being ignored in favour of these dumbed down modern games. FEAR is so utterly insignificant when you compare it to something like Siren or Silent Hill 2.

Silent Hill 3 is way scarier than 2.
