With the topic 'what is the best game you've ever played' becoming popular, I now want to ask the other side: the worst game you've ever played.

You can explain the reason for your choice if you want to.

For me, it's Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) for three main reasons: the plot, Princess Elise and the loading times.

For me, it's Neverwinter Nights. At first, I find the game enjoyable but later on, it became boring for me and yet, I don't like the battle system in the game. Maybe, I expect too much from it since I'm not much familiar with Dungeons and Dragons.

Can't say I've played many truly bad games, but I'll have to go with Heavy Fire: Afghanistan. Going by Metacritic, the other lowest rated games I've played would be Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified (3.3) and The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct. Definitely not good games, but I didn't completely hate them either.

Wii sports on wii.it becomes boring pretty fast.hopefully I used my wii for playing GameCube games which were more enjoyable than that game.

But now I remember that there was a worse game than that:Star Wars clone wars republic Heroes.

Off the top of my head, it's gotta be Dragon Blade: Wrath of Fire on the Wii. Anyone else remember that one? I finished it, but the game was a slog at the end.

it's hard not to let bad pc ports interfere with memories of just genuinely bad games - resident evil 4, dark souls, double agent and gta iv all spring to mind as being pretty rotten gaming experiences on the pc. but as far as just plain awful games go black ops single player, far cry 2 and crysis 3 stand out from recent years. oh and the order 1886. i hated the new hitman game too but i'll need to revisit it in several months and see if it's still as shit second time round. all games should get a second chance to redeem themselves

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed series, especially the second one. I know that's not why Lucasarts died, but it would make sense if it was.

Supreme Commander 2, wow what a terrible follow up in the Total Annihilation-SupCom franchise.

I really do not play terrible games, though; I might impulse buy a less-than-stellar one on occasion, but I generally research before buying and even when I go outside my comfort zone, I get well-received titles.

Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly. I heard it was bad but I had to give it a shot because I love the first three on PS1. I was still disappointed. Runner-up is Resident Evil 6 (pretty much the same story for that game).

@SOedipus: Enter the Dragonfly's another good one (for worst pick)! The funny thing is, I had a lot of fun with it at first, but it got so tedious. Don't think I ever bothered to finish it.

I have to say Hugo. This was a play-by-phone game you found on several tv-channels. A commercial tv-channel ran it a while here i Norway. A friend of my bought the PC-version and I tried it. It was the exact same version from tv and it was boring. Just up and down keys to either jump or duck. I got to the end in 2-3 minutes. Worst game I've ever played.

@Cheddarchet: I'm embarrassed to say that I actually beat the game. There is no way I would have now if it was the first time playing it. The framerate drops and load times are atrocious, and I wouldn't get past those issues now.

@tratyu92: looks at the games listed in this thread, mass effect Andromeda doesnt belong in this thread.

It's disappointing somewhat, because it could and should have been better.

However the worst game you played ?

Wow, that's a really hard question. I tend to forget horrible games rather fast and there are many games I couldn't bear to test them more than half an hour before putting it aside forever.

So I'm going to cheat by listing the games I hated this year:

Touhou Genso Wanderer: It started up with a cutszene in japanese with japanese subs even though I bought the english version. Outside the cutszenes the subs were english, but I still had no idea what the story was about when I was thrown in the tutorial. In the tutorial, my Ps4 Pro froze (Picture stayed greyish-white) and I had to hold the power button on my PS4 to shut it down. It's an unfinished, broken piece of shit.

Adventure Pop: I played about two levels. The gameplay is horrible and it feels like a really bad port of a mobile game.

... Those are the only two that come to my mind, but I'm sure there were more.

Blade 2 for ps2.

Biggest piece of shit I have ever played. The graphics were borderline ps1-like, the combat system only had 2 combos, Blade kept repeating movie lines every time you beat an enemy, horrible pacing, boring level design, and a half-assed storyline.

I remember picking up an old Heroes game for the PS2 and assumed it would be good since i enjoyed the couple of Heroes games i played on PC... yeah, that didn't turn out too well. Cant remember the exact name of the game though. A more recent example might be Skyrim on consoles, which means no mods and long load times. That game uses the vast, open world to trick players into thinking there is a lot to see and do and that things might get interesting as you play more but it never happens.

Grand Theft Auto IV. Unlikable characters, boring missions, boring/preachy/overly-satirical story, terrible gunplay, terrible vehicle handling, poor performance... Just awful in every way I can think of, really. I've played Aliens: Colonial Marines and think it's better than GTA IV... so that should tell you how much I think GTA IV sucks. It's just not a fun game. It's an agonizing chore to play.

Empire Total War.

I still put over a 100 hours in to it, and i quite enjoyed it.... at the time. Now I look back on it, and i think.... omg that was one hell of a messy game. bad AI, with bad pathfinding, and battle tactics, boring campaign, naval battles took forever to finish with full stacked navies, turn cycle took forever, sound design was bad, music was lackluster, economy took forever to get going, hardly any unit variants.

But i do admit that there were some good ideas that were carried over in to future Total War games

ah thank you. was thinking of a game i really hated and GTA 4 was that game. You read my mind exactly. Boring story, bad performance and gameplay (the version i played was on the 360 and the framerate was nearly unplayable). It's definitely a bad game in the GTA series... all the other games had a sense of humor and fun to them.

The main character is the most boring person in a video game. You can't make a russian likable. The non talking mute you play in GTA 3 is a better character.

Perfectly reasonable. A franchise that began as a technical showcase taking place in open world environment which then declined into a by the numbers and wholly unremarkable CoD clone.

if crysis is the worst game someone's ever played then i'd say they've not played many games. crysis (and warhead) did so many great things that, even if it wasn't their cup of tea, anyone with any degree of taste would still be able to appreciate what it attempted to introduce to the fps genre

They didn't bring anything to the fps genre besides breakthrough visuals. Open world FPS games, customisable loadouts and the concept of cyborg-like bodysuits all existed long before those games.

Its technical accomplishments were its main selling point throughout its development.

i'm struggling to think of any fps game that combined a semi open world with a myriad of ways to approach situations, allowed you to utilise vehicles across land and sea, interspersed stealth seamlessly, had almost fully destructible environments, had continuous day and night cycles etc and all in an environment that was graphically several years ahead of its time

Battlefield 1942. Except for the destructible environments. Those came later in Battlefield 2.

Superman 64 is abysmal ... a lot of game on the NES were also seriously bad ... then on PSOne( Playstation or PSX ) Load and Reload ... my god that was bad ... playable but oh my it was bad
