This generation includes: Xbox360, PS3, Wii, PSP, and DS. (And current gen PC games)

So what is your favorite game this generation, and what console is it on? And why?

My current favorite game this generation has to be Folklore for the PS3. It's a fantastic RPG, great battle system, I really love the story and outstanding graphics.

I'd have to say either COH for the PC, the GRAW series for the 360, or Uncharted for the PS3. I've reviewed both GRAW (II) and Uncharted if you're interested as to why I think they are great.

As for Company of Heroes: it's simply the most enjoyable RTS I have ever played. The amount of detail, amazing sound effects, and awesome presentation held up by intelligent A.I. and a stunning physics engine make it so fun and so in-depth that I'm really looking forward to a sequel. There's nothing like dropping barrage after barrage of artillery on my friend's base at the end of a long battle and witnessing all his hard work go up in smoke. Ahhhhh....I'm still a bit in of awe of that game.

It's hard to pick only one, but I'd choose COH if I had only one option.

Nice topic, btw.

Mine is still Metroid Prime 3 corruption, this is the only game I have not been disappointed one bit with its use of the wii remote, no other game has lived up to my expectations of motion controls but Retro came though for me one last time with the prime series, and it is one of the prettiest games on the console to boot.

The other game a have a boner for is Mass Effect, this is sci-fi at its best and the story is great, infact the only thing I can say bad about it is I played the 360 version and it can be less than stable at times :?.

No More Heroes for the Wii and The World Ends With You on the DS (for home console and handheld categories).

I am FAR from being a Nintendo fanboy, incidentally, but thats just the way it has gone in terms of my favorite games this generation. NMH had a punk sensibility about it that was perfect. It was rough, but pure and always on message. A true gamers game.

First it was Dead Rising and then it was Mass Effect... but now after the honeymoon period with both games is up for me I have to say both.

It may be premature to decide with so many spectacular games coming out later this year. If I had to pick my favorite games of this console generation released so far..

360 - Saints Row, Forza 2, Assassin's Creed and Prey

DS - Phantom Hourglass and Metroid Hunters

For the PS3, it would have to be Assassins Creed. For the PSP, Def Jam.

1- Overlord on my 360, simple is good, humor is good, kicking asses for goodness...errr evilness!

2- Oblivion on my 360, arguably the best open world single RPG, quite a few flaws, but overal, a blast.

3- Advanced War on my DS, GBT are rare these days, been able to play that in any waiting line is a good thing.

But my PC ravage these easily with titles as City of Villains, Fantasy War, Civilization IV and much more.

For Handhelds.

Monster Hunter. I've clocked in over 1000 hours on all 3 titles. I imported Monster Hunter Portable G 2, along with the limite edition Monster Hunter Slim PSP.

I'd have to say it's a tossup between Halo 3, Gears of War, Oblivion, and Mario Galaxy.

And then of course there's Call of Duty 4. Oh yeah, and Dead Rising, which is hugely flawed, but still a blast to play.

EDIT: Actually, scratch all that. The best game of the generation is Geometry Wars 2. This is fact, not opinion. :)

For home consoles its hard but I choose either MGS4, Gears of War or Call of Duty 4. Both games are just amazing to play.

For Handhelds Dawn of Sorrow for the DS and for the PSP I would choose either MGS: PO or Killzone Liberation.

halo 3 gets my vote...the multiplayer is as fun as ever, and the campaign mode is easily as enjoyable as the original halo's...

runners-up are gears of war, oblivion, ninja gaiden II and rock band...

i beat your sequence score :P

you're obliterating me in the other modes though...i'm not sure i'll ever get close to any of your scores...

I've been thinking about this lately and it is a tough call for me. I at least know it isn't on the PS3.

This is my top 5, all very close, but I would give the nod to Galaxy for now.

1. Super Mario Galaxy (Wii)

2. Gears of War (360)

3. Twilight Princess (Wii)

4. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (Wii)

5. Geometry Wars 2 (360)

Drat!

I've been too distracted by the deluge of Live Arcade goodies to keep playing lately. And your response is exactly what makes Geometry Wars 2 such a great game. It's sort of like Vegas -- the game never sleeps. If you stop playing, then you risk being left in the dust, and there's always that nagging feeling of having someone nipping at your heels (or the awesome feeling of nipping at someone's heels).

Seriously, no other game has made high-scoring so relevant again. Geometry Wars 2 doesn't just make it relevant again, it wears it like a badge of honor. Such an unbelievably epic game, and the new bar by which I'll judge any and all twin stick shooters. I don't expect it to be surpassed for a long while -- if ever.

And your score is going DOWN.:P

Culdcept Saga on the 360. Endless re-playability, infinite strategies...no two games are ever the same. I heart this game majorly. A shame more people haven't given this game a chance.

its most definately mgs4 for its amazing gameplay, graphics, music, and story.

runner up goes to no more heroes. its certainly not a perfect game (the open world parts were pretty dull, really), but it did so many other things well that i have to give it a nod. the combat system was fun, functional, and stylish. the bosses were all great characters in their own right.

I'd have to say Mass Effect. I can't really explain why though. It's just addicting. I've played through it 7 times now. But each time I created a new character instead of starting a new game with my old one, so I have reached level 60 or got the completionist achievement yet.

After giving it some thought, I have to say Oblivion. I first played it 2 years ago. I played non-stop for two months before quitting to resume a social life. I recently started playingit again. There's so much to do, it never loses its replay value. I hope they make a sequel soon.

I honestly can't pick just one. Some that come to mind are BioShock, Eternal Sonata, Smash Bros Brawl, Team Fortress 2 and Metal Gear Solid 4 to an extent. If we're going on PS2 games that are still being released then Persona 3 wins hands down.

Metal Gear Solid 4. Was worth the 20 year wait for the epic conclusion of Snake's saga.

I enjoyed the game so much that if it was the only game on the PS3 and it cost me 599$ to get it, I'd still be pleased with my purchase.

I have to go play all the games now again in chronological order, at least the Solids.

I'd have to say next closest would be a tie between Gears of War and Mass Effect.

For 360 i will say Bioshock and Assassins Creed. Bioshock had what i thought was an awesome story that keept me interested throughout the entire game and the gameplay had a nice tweak with the whole plasmid idea. COD4 was great to.

Assassins Creed i thought was just plain fun. What's not to like about running ontop of buildings like a Ninja and assassinating people all stealth style? Great graphics 2.

For the PS3 i liked Uncharted. The gameplay was fun and the story was cool. And i also liked Resistence. Typical FPS, nothing really new introduced but it had smooth gameplay and another cool story.

Phantom Hourglass for DS was fun to. A lot of interesting puzzles that made me think. Plus the Zelda series has been one of my favorite in all of gaming since i was a kid playing the original on my NES.

Mario Galaxy was fun too.

Geez...you could ask me " Which of all these potato chips taste the best" instead and maybe I would be able to answer.
So many great ones so since I can't really pick one of them I'll just say the first one that comes to mind...Mass Effect.
That game made me feel like I was watching a good Sci-fi movie and I was deciding how the main character was and how it ended.

Oblivion followed closely behind by Mass Effect. I would love to say BioShock, but it was so short, which makes it difficult to say that it is the best game of this generation.

MGS4 pretty easily so far. The game feels like a step above every game its crazy. I want to replay it but I keep playing useless games instead. I enjoyed the conclusion and MGO is a blast...I reallly need to get back into MGO.

After MGS4 there are a lot of games I liked for different reasons that its hard to place them in order. I liked Warhawk for its MP (ofcourse), GRAW 1 was really cool both online and off but its kind of dated now. Oblivion was really impressive but I didn't like the way they handled certain things like loot, leveling and stealth so that keeps it out of a definitive second place. Uncharted was such a blast but I think the sequel will improve the foundation of the game exponentially if they make it longer and diversify the gameplay a bit more.

PGR4 was pretty good, but the community absolutely died, I couldn't believe it. There was less than 10 games on average at one time but the game was still a nice step up from PGR3. I feel they never reached the level of greatness that PGR2 had but speaking for this gen, Four was fantastic.

This was a very hard question for me to answer, and it will just get harder once November comes around (can't wait for the kick-ass games comin' out).

So this is how I stand as of right now,

The top game would have to be Metal Gear Solid 4 - PS3 Because it is the most epic, fun, game I've ever had the pleasure of playing and has had the best story of any game yet on the Playstation 3

PSP- God Of War: Chains of Olympus Why? Because it is pure action and there is little down time, and the only downside is the shortness of the game.

Wii- Super Smash Bros. Brawl Dude, just an awsome fun sequal.

DS- Advance Wars: Days of Ruin I'd played the prequals and when I got this game I was impressed with the improvements and just loved.

360- ??? Sorry I don't own/played enough games on the console to have a favorite,(Note: I don't own a Wii either).

MGS4 - PS3.
