Tetris is great! The music from it tends to stick in the memory, like right now. Twenty years or more and it's still a great game.
Female gamers have varid tastes, some like to play shooters, soem platformers, soem racers and more. All comes down to personal preferance, not some gender stereotype enforced by narrow minds who can't accept that gaming isn't a male only thing.
One particularGF of mine loved Crash Bandicoot whilst another enjoyed the 'Jak and Daxter' franchise and the 'Rachet n Clank' titles.. I supose every female is different though.. Some love platformers, whilst others enjoy F.P.S titles
Ive notices girls prefer games where there is an element of creation and strategy. My mom used to play lots of Dune 2 and Dungeon Keeper, my girlfriend likes games like Zoo Tycoon, The Sims, Style Boutique and various time management games like Dinner Dash and Cake Mania. Games like Just dance and Wii Sports are good bets too.
I like the thread title. Not just a female, "the" female!
Anyway, I haven't dated that many gamer chicks, but my wife plays a lot. She likes World of Warcraft, Harvest Moon, Dragon Age, God of War. Some other stuff. I'm not sure if that actually tells you anything besides the fact that every woman is different. Shocking, I know.
Think of every game you like. Now try to realise that girls might also like the games you play. Just cause there are explosions, blood and guts in games doesn't mean it's for guys only. Also, try asking what kind of games she wants to play, simple as that.
I think people confuse "girl" with "non-gamer." I know lots of people that don't regularly play games that like to pick up Call of Duty, Rock Band, and various party games like Mario Kart. Sims 3 is really popular amongst my friends that don't play anything else.
PS-I don't hate Gears of War because I'm a girl. I hate it because I could feel my brain cells begging for mercy before withering away and dying while playing it.
As a woman I would like to remind everyone that 38% of gamers are female. How can we make assumptions about what a huge group of people like. This kind of talk traditionally leads people into sexism, racism, and xenophobia. Don't assume things about people.
EDIT: The reason I felt the need to make this statement is because I've noticed several people using stereotypes to fuel discussion.
Well, I enjoy World of Warcraft, Left 4 Dead, Portal, SSBB, Pokemon, Gears of War, and many others. I don't really like racing or sports games, though.
Of course, however, all the other females on this planet won't have the same opinion as me.

Even better, a big piece of that pie goes to gaming mothers.
Oh, just thought I'd let you know: women don't like games like you. Period. Big generalization, but I don't care.
They don't like them. Deal with it. If you find an awesome game like Jet Set Radio Future, that's probably something they'll share your interest in. I had a girlfriend into that and Knights of the Old Republic, and Blinx the Time Cat and some other stuff, but I think she really needed something to do while she enjoyed her catnip.
But don't get your hopes up. They're not going to be down with playing Ghost Recon of COD or Battlefield or even Forza etc. Just not wired like that.

the only games my girl plays is the sims and burnout paradise ... she does love to watch me play 3'rd person action games like god of war, dantes inferno, assassins creed, darksiders, ninja gaiden...she sucks at playing them tho, so she just doesn't ...

I'm sure all the women that attend gaming competitions and participate in clans just do it because they're bored.
You would want to buy a game that supports a local co-op so your GF can get into the gaming world with a friend or you. Games like Gears of War, Army of Two, Borderlands and such are a good starting point. Personally, i would show her Oblivion and you wont bother thinking about buying another game for a year for her.
Good luck@
EvilSelf
no a good starting point is mario, because there is no starting point. either you grow up playing or you will never learn how to play a shooter or an action adventure game (why? Because, in modern games you have to control a camera as well as move and still remember where to push when you want to shoot something).
I really recommend mario I'm not kidding!

as an alpha male (lol) I would like to remind everyone that 62% of gamers are male. How can we not make assumptions about what a huge group of people like. This kind of talk traditionally leads people to feminism, cooking, and marrying. Don't stop assuming things about people.
I'm going to stop because this might be slightly insulting.
But I'm just trying to make a point and still be smashingly funny :D
there are amusing levels of condescension here. please go on.LoG-SacramentApparently they like The Sims and casual DS/Wii shovelware. Am I doing it rite?

Please don't be offended. You're a girl? Your sig hints otherwise. Avatar is clearly a male. You like basketball... quite possible for a female, but Crysis 2 as well? And you play awful games like Undercover? Sorry for my over-analysis, but if I had to guess, you're a dude. (:
Edit: And I don't know many girls that play Streets of Rage 2. In fact, I don't know any at all. Let alone know what the heck is streets of rage 2. :P

Obviously that was the first thing I did. That's a given.
You can fake a profile easily by putting female. But did you check his gamer profile. Avatar is clearly a male. I'm just sayin', signs point to male. Except for gender part where that can easily be changed by "edit." I don't know why I'm making this a big deal.. there are many guys that pose as a girl. But this one is too obvious.
I guess it is hard to believe some people use avatars with different genders. What does that make users that use female avatars on GS, for example?I think that the simple fact that females are posting in this thread makes your post irrelevant. I am female and will play pretty much any game genre with the exception of driving (DULL DULL DULL) and sports game (snore worthy). In response to this thread though... I would just ask your GF what she might like to play for goodness sakes. Gender is irrelevant here, it is more important what types of things she likes. If she likes action movies etc. she might well get on with COD, Gears etc., if she likes stories RPGs might be a decent genre.Oh, just thought I'd let you know: women don't like games like you. I think he lied he was a female just to win the argument, but all evidence points to "male."
Mate do you want a picture of my **** or something? Don't overthink it, I am a pretty boyish lesbian and a male avatar just looks more like me. Simple. There are pictures of me on my Tumblr which is linked in my signature. I'm not trying to win an argument by pretending, and quite frankly I think you're small minded and pathetic for assuming I can't possibly be female because girls don't play Streets of Rage. If you want some sort of proof I will post a sodding picture or video. Don't be a jerk.
I'm really so offended and insulted by how convinced you are that I can't possibly be a girl because of the games I play. Even at 26 this small minded crap still catches up with me. I'm sick of people like you making life difficult and horrible for others. If you're really so unconvinced, you can add me on Facebook. Message me, I'll send you my name, I've nothing to hide. There are hundreds of pictures of me in all my tomboyish glory. Thanks for making me feel about two inches tall. You're a real class act.
Depends on the person. The game Genre, Could be any game? Take your girlfriend to EB Games/Gamestop let her buy a game. Or you could just ask her? Depends on what Videogame system your have Playstation 3, Nintendo wii, or Xbox 360. Youare loking for a Co-op game you can play with your girlfriend.
Ask her.
Elann, I know plenty of females who enjoy basketball. I also know plenty of people with avatars that is the opposite gender of them in real life. Oh, and I had a female Avatar on Xbox live before.
Is this thread a joke?wavey_gravey
I have a strong feeling the TC wasnt too serious when he created this thread, if his second post is anything to go by.
But yeah, what you said before is correct, considering the high number of females posting in this thread proves that females, just like males will enjoy more or less anything based on their personality, interests and skill regardless of gender.

25+ years of gaming with pretty much every genre out there but especially shooters. I don't have kids but I have hundreds of games and all the consoles and pretty much play every day ... AND all women (just ask my husband ;)) This thread is seriously meant to annoy. I really don't care what a few short minded peeps have to say. Gotta go now, Demon Souls is calling.what kind of games do you like lol cooking mama sounds nice im well aware of nintendogs to they are good lol
Gender doesn't necessarily drive game selection, it's more personal preference, what gives a person the most enjoyment.
I know a girl that plays Mass Effect.
I see posts making fun of casual games - I use them to take a break from uber-games so they don't get stale.

Whoa whoa whoa! I didn't mean to offend you at all! :( This is the internet and you should expect reponses like that. I'm just sayin'. I'll take your word for it. I don't need to facebook you or anything like that for you to prove that you're really a female. But that's cool that you're really into gaming. It's just RARE to find a female gamer like that. And Streets of Rage rocks! Again, my apologies. Forgive me. (:There are more female-friendly sites where you can see there is a huge amount of gamergirls. Not counting the group that plays only cellphone/flash, they like all kinds of things. You have all-girl COD clans, CS clans, SC, WoW guilds, etc.

Man.. i don't like Ghost Recon, hate CoD, *** Battlefield and don't care about Forza. Does that make me a female?
Or could it be that taste is simply subjective.
I swear, some of ya'll act as if a female is from another planet or something, or maybe some never even met a female before.
People play what they like, man, different people play different games, that's that. Nothing more, nothing less.
Many of the male gamers, not all, but many tend to still believe in the notion that gaming is male only. But it never has been, there have always been female gamers, it's just that female gamers don't make it as publically known as male gamers do.
The old gender stereotypes are still enforced and clearly seep into gaming, such outdated copcepts.
Female gamers and male gamers share something in common, aside from being gamers, in that it's our personalpreferances more than the gender that determines what we'll play.
Is this thread a joke?wavey_graveyActually, I suspect it might be an elaborate ruse by the original poster to figure out which posters n this board are female. For those that have identified themselves, expect a "HEY SEXY LADY" PM posthaste. I kid, I kid. At lest, I hope so. As to the original topic, this question seems as futile as trying to identify what game guys tend to play. Yes, you could perhaps identify some general trends, but the data you would need would have to be pretty substantial, and you're not going to answer it to any degree of certainty within a forum. I can't help but think that the tools we have to work with, anecdotal evidence, broad stereotypes and preconceived notions of what a particular gender might find entertaining is mostly useless, and doesn't amount to a whole lot. Besides, I don't understand what the fascination is with female gamers. I suppose it's something I find attractive in a woman, as a common hobby is always nice to have, but I have no interest in trying to figure out what female gamers are like. It's such a large population that it's built to have exceptions to even the most common of trends. Which gives me no particular insight into any given girl.
