  • KOTOR(PC) - With a story less expansive than only Mass Effect;
  • Midnight Club 2(PS2) - The most fun and difficult arcade racer to date imo;
  • Jet Force Gemini(N64) - Bad controls, but lots of fun; It made Halo what it is today.
  • Mario 64 - You know you still play it.
  • Mario Tennis 64 - No better tennis game has ever been made.
  • KOTOR(PC) - Did I mention KOTOR?
  • Perfect Dark(N64) - The graphics are funny and the scientists seem to scratch themselves a lot - but it was lots-o-fun.
  • Capcom vs SNK(Dreamcast) - The most epic fighting game ever imo. I'll take it over Fight Night any day. Yeah I said it.

[QUOTE="Goods_Merchant"]

Lately, I have been playing Star Wars: Jedi Knights 2: Jedi Outcasts, and I have been finding it a blast to play. Although the graphics certainly don't stand up to those of Uncharted 2, they are serviceable enough, and there are some other differences compared to today's games, but in quite a few other ways, I find it to be better than some of the games of today. I find the AI to be a lot better than some of the AI of some contemporary games, and the gameplay to be really fun. It is like getting a blast of fresh air from a dusty coffin. Some of the gameplay mechanics have really never been reinvented in other later games, and that keeps the action original and fun,despite being an old game. The online play is still fun, and the weapons still good. I still never get tired of using Kyle Katarn's extensive amount of force powers to kill my enemies in a variety of sadistic ways. I'm wondering if any of you feel the same way as me, or if I'm alone in the world of yesterday.

CD-i_ownz

If you really want to be sadistic with the game, let me tell you there is a special cheat code just for you. look up "jedi outcast dismemberment code"....:twisted:

Lol, I love that code.

Thief: The Dark Project, and all the original Doom games. Can't beat the classics. Games are too serious these days.

This was taken from a previous post I made on a topic I created:

PS1 games that still matter today.

Metal Gear Solid - IMO this version trumps the GC game, Twin Snakes. While the visuals of the PS version are rather dated by today's standards, the GC version doesn't look that much better in comparison and the MG2 gameplay doesn't adequately accommodate MGS1's level design. Then there's the issue of voice acting and cutscenes and the list goes on and on. For those reasons, I think that MGS1 playstation is the definitive version to play.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night - Still the best Castlevania on any console. I don't think I need to say anymore about this wonderful title that hasn't been said already.

Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 - Even if RE4 and RE5 are the new direction in the series, RE2 and RE3 are still fun. I don't feel 2 and 3 are dated in any way in comparison to RE4 and 5, they're just different; a different game play mechanic that borders on frights and scares, mystery, puzzle solving, item collecting, document reading rather than balls to the walls action. In addition, if one has never played RE 2, then one is missing out on a pivotal story arc in the series.

Fear Effect 1 and Fear Effect 2 - The Fear Effect series takes the traditional Resident evil element and turns it into a twisted anime inspired, noir flick. Elements that separates Fear Effect from Resident Evil:

* The backgrounds are almost always animated
* The game has you playing with 3 characters instead of the typical 2
* Game has a very mature setting; I mean like sexual overtones mature
* Characters are cell shaded which gives this survival horror game a unique charm

Dino Crisis 2 - Takes the original resident evil formula and turns it into a more arcade-like game filled with a scoring system, heavy-duty weapons and a mess load of dinosaurs. I think this game is relevant because it's the last good Dino Crisis in the series.

* Prerendered backgrounds are lush and exotic
* Constant barrage of dinosaurs coming at you to keep the action going
* TONS of weapons

Crash Team Racing - The best character-based kart game on the playstation and quite frankly, the based crash team racing in all of the PS family. Suffers from low res PS textures but graphics are colorful and animation is fast and smooth.

I still enjoy playing Metal Gear Solid 1, 2 and 3. And since you can complete each one in about an hour if you skip the cutscenes, you get a lot of fun in a short amount of time :D

2 words: Metroid Prime

That singular Masterpiece has not aged a day since its release in 2002.

One of the best games ever made....period.

Keep playing, if the game starts out slow, just remember, at some point you will likely LOVE it and never look back.

Its even better the 2nd and then 3rd time through, each time you realizemore and more how much detail Retro put in this Masterpiece.

Atmosphere of the game is through the roof.

Knights of the Old Republic isn't exactly old, but it is still better than Mass Effect, which was a great game in its own right. I returned to it over the break, and it swept me away all over again.

Homeworld still looks quite good, and no RTS has told a story more worth telling since then--perhaps with the exception of Homeworld 2.

Giants: Citizen Kabuto is three terrific games all in one, and it still looks really good too. I still return to it from time to time.

I played a bit of Beyond Good & Evil over the break as well. Not old exactly, but it's a generation back, and still remains as awesome as ever.

Total Annihilation. Oh yeah.

But for a much older game, I still go back to a Commodore 64 classic called Paradroid all the time. I don't return for the nostalgia--but because it's as fun as ever, and I don't need need to don rose-colored glasses to enjoy it.

I still play Morrowind from time to time and enjoy it a lot more than Oblivion, which isnt a bad game by any means. Knights of the Old Republic is still great, like Kevin said.

Vampire: The Masqurade - Bloodlines. A terrific RPG that pays homage to Deus Ex. Just think Deus Ex meets vampires and you get VTMB.

I just recently picked up a Nintendo 64 at Play N Trade and was playing GoldenEye 007 and Star Wars: Rogue Squadron. They definitely measure up to games today.

Depends on what you define as old. Full Spectrum Warrior, PoP: The Sands of Time, Castlevania: SotN, the Shenmue games, Samurai Shodown, Super Metroid, the older Fallout games, Panzer Dragoon Saga and Orta, Eternal Darkness, and Half-Life 2 are holding out very well.

Jedi Knight II is a great game, none of my friends have played it though, which is a shame. It's definitely my favourite Star Wars game. I would say that another example of an old game that can measure up today is the original Half Life. I've been playing this quite a bit recently, and I'm loving it. I decided to get it after completing Half Life 2, and while graphically it is outdated, the gameplay alone can more than measure up to its contemporary counterparts.

lol, yeah, I just think its an amazing game, I actually like it better than PC version of HL2 :o, but both games got a rare perfect score from me.

Speaking of which......I agree with you on HL2, awesome game to boot.

I think Prime and HL2 were the best games last decade, and stand just as strong today.

kdawg how do we get our polls stickied? Just ask mods?

I've recently went back to play a bunch of old RPGs such as Arcanum, Arx Fatalis, Vampire the Masquerade: Redemption, Planescape Torment, Fallou 1 and 2 with Fallout Tactics... It seems RPG's are full of throw away ideas. Things that work well in one game and that are never seen again in any other game. It's a shame too because some of these things are a lot better that some of the gameplay elements we have now.
