[QUOTE="_AbBaNdOn"]Dude it sounds like its time to step out of the last century and start playing all the action rpg's. Kingdom Hearts, .Hack, PSU, Dark Cloud 2, Rogue Galaxy, Dawn of Mana, Okami...and more...nftw
First, last century was only a little over 8 years ago. Second, it doesn't have to be an action rpg to be a good game. I enjoyed the Dark Cloud games, but the rest I have passed on without regret. Third, do those qualify as Japanese rpg's?
This sounded more contentious than I intended. I actually thought it was funny, well it made me smile.
One thing about playing the action rpg's would be you will have a better selection.
Oh, I did enjoy Baulder's Gate, but I don't think that is a jrpg either.
Suikoden 3 is one that seems to meet the requirements.
Yeah well I ignored his requirements lol. I made suggestions based on the games he had already played and my own bias. Its POSSABLE to still make a good classic turn based rpg but for the most part they bore me to death with the combat and the depth. Go here buy new equipment, ok now go fight something, ok now go here and buy new equipment, ok go fight a new something, etc etc end of game(your stats are the same as mine woo hoo). (story gets spread out over 70+ hours of boring ass battles.).
Action RPG's/Tactical RPG's require brain activity and are therefor more fun. Action RPG's also suffer from a lack of depth sometimes. Kingdom Hearts, Dawn of Mana, Rogue Galaxy all have set equipment with set stats. X-men Legends/UA, Champions: Return to arms, Dark Cloud 2, PSU are all pretty great depth wise.
I would kill for a cross between Disgaea and KH/DC2 mechanically. You go and beat on monsters and stuff with insane action based combat (KH/DC2/Devil may cry) and then monsters randomly drop stuff that you can use to improve your stats with. If your stats arent at a certain level you have no chance of fighting certain levels of enemies. Combat happens in big huge open 3d environments.
