you might want to check wrpgs because you want basically something thats not ff, most ffs are linear and i like a story driven rpg, not based on my gender or choises, for that you have wrpgs-
Krelian-co
I play plenty of WRPG's, only the ones that allow for gender choice though, and character creation if possible. I avoid the WRPG's of Risen, Two Worlds, Arcania and Witcher since they're male only leads and I'm sick to death of male only leads in games. Any RPG which forces you to play as male only I avoid like the plague.
Fixed gender ones I tend to be cautious about since more often than not it's one female and something like three males, unacceptable since the female character is usually done as some weakling instead of being able to choose if they can be a warrior or other ****
JRPG's I largely avoid due to constant male leads more often than not, cliche characters, child characters who are always the same, dull stories that offer nothing new, annoying linear paths that don't offer the chance to just explore for a little while in order to break up the boredom and little to interest me. So far only one JRPG has caught my interest - Resonance Of Fate - and with that I tend to play as Leanne the most while enjoying the combat and the freedom, though it's not incredible amounts of freedom, to explore and take my time.
then if you dont like jrpgs why you even hope they make the game you want, you know they wont change their genre just to suit you, the genre is defined even if it changes a bit over time. Also i highly dislike mute characters, i prefer they give him/her a face and a voice so they can give a proper story.,
I disagree with the dull stories, for i find jrpgs have mostly better stories than anything offered in wrpgs, but i guess since you dont play most of them you would hardly know.
Now take this as an advice, all i see in your post is you are a narrow minded person (probably even feminist) who doesnt enjoy a good story or refuse to play a good game because is not aligned with your philosophical point of view, they are just games and you should enjoy it for what they are, entertainment , you probably dont even enjoy a good read because of the so called "male protagonists", if you cant enjoy something because of that, well its your loss. As i see it it comes more logical to me the usual rpg cliches since males always like to fight body to body while usually females are non agresive caring people hence the healer type, i do not see that as weakness.
Now what i just put in red is just sad to see you dont even try other games because of that.
No, I'm not feminist, that's a narrow minded view of someone's personal life and feelings towards being forced to be male. I've played a lot of JRPG's over the years and I got sick of them a decade ago, I've tried playing JRPG's over the past decade and so far only one out of the many I've played has managed to catch my attention - Resonance Of Fate - since it tried something new with the genre and worked.
I like a good story, I love reading and I write a lot. But I have no fondness for male leads in games since they tend to always be the same old stereotype and I hate being forced to be male, I've been forced to be a man all my life in real life and I hate being forced to be male in games.
An RPG is meant to allow you to play the role of the character, to put you in their shoes. Well being forced to be that way with a male character doesn't work for me, I can't be a man, I don't want to be a man and I have no desire to keep being forced to be one. I prefer to play a female character since I can identify better with a female lead than I ever can with a male.
Male leads in gaming are always bland, stereotypical and boring.
JRPG's are outdated in many areas, from stories filled with tired cliches that have been done to death for years to cliche male leads and cliche child characters. While WRPG's have been progressing step by step, JRPG's are still at least two decades behind in several areas.
A female warrior in a game can be interesting and a step from the tired cliche of the male being the warrior and the female being the helpless damsel in distress who can't pick up a piece of paper without some stereotypical male doing the whole 'I'll be your hero!' nonsense.
JRPG's are the worst for that.

dude your problems come from somewhere else as is clear from your post, dont blame the games, you cant push your personal issues into the games, sorry but i like the fantasy setting of the jrpgs, i dont like having a group of failures like they did in dragon age 2, and i think you should stop projecting yourself into the games, i mean what if i said no, erase lara croft from my games because i dont like playing a s a girl im a man in real life! then al games would have to have a mute character with no proper background, in fact then what happens with books? books arent interactive you cant say im male or female? then what im gonna go against all books with female elads because i dont want to be forced to be a girl! seriously, is just a story enjoy it, dont complicate yourself with games, if they are fun whats does it matter really.,
i dont really like having to make my character because that way they cant give a proper story to them for focusing in many paths, i just like them focusing in a great single epic story.
and yes you narrow minded because you want people to accept what you want but you cant accept what others do, if you are gay or w/e you want people to accept that but you want normal people to change to accomodate to your way of thinking, i think acceptance goes both ways.

Well well well isnt this getting deep
I like to play the role, to immerse myself into a game. I can't do that with males, and JRPG's are even harder to do that in since I've seen every cliche there is from them. It's hard to enjoy something that's been milked to death and JRPG's cliches have been heavily milked.
There's only so many child characters you can stomach before you can't stomach anymore and only so many JRPG cliches you can stomach for that matter.
For me the last good JRPG, before Resonance Of Fate came out, was Suikoden 2. Male lead, sadly, but the story was gripping with good pacing and the results of your choices and actions having an effect on how the ending will turn out along with how your growing army will be able to fight.
The first blog on my profile explains why I can't play as male, instead of judging, maybe you should try to understand how others may feel.
Less MMO (I'm looking at you FF12), Ramza cameo
they did it for Cloud in FFT
. One more thing, if they're going to go like FF13, they might as well make it Kingdom Hearts. I mean, the only difference is that you select the actions like a play-by-play, rather than full control like KH.BranKetraExcept kingdom hearts is still 679% better than FF13
With Kingdom Hearts, the best enemies are the bosses. Ironic, isn't it?My problem with Kindom Heart and FF12 is that the games' enemies are not that rich.
BranKetra
I still found FF13 enemies richer that include the bosses. That is mainly because the gameplay allow for the enemies to be richer.
I still put Kingdom Hearts as great Action RPG but not what I look for in a main FF game.

When I said that they should make it more like KH, I was talking about the combat system.I really do not want that combat system in a main FF game. I have never play a game with the combat system of Kingdom Heats and have enemies any where close to the richness of any main FF games. One of the main thing I look forward to in FF main games is the richness of the enemies.
Edited to added:
By the way, does any enjoy the double stander that some have for JRPG and WRPG?
I understand. One of the things I like about FF games is the good graphics. I think it will be possible for a game to look FF-quality but play like an action adventure. The enemies richness is all about the game play and why should game play as an important part of the game.
What about that FFVII game set after FFVII that is a action adventure?
By double standard I am talking about how some always talk about cliche in JRPG but does not even care about any cliche that WRPG games have. Worse is when JRPG characters are called whiny and WRPG are not call whiny even though they whine so much.

As far as JRPGs and WRPGs, I guess it depends on who you ask. Some things stick out more for some people.
If you people are ragging on 13 for the gameplay because it is "button mashy", you are so wrong, cancelling full attacks, switching paradigms selecting certain weaknesses or spamming the proper technique as opposed to whatever it auto assigns for SAB is noob and never gets you anywhere. 13 was way deeper than KH button mashfest nonsense.SemiMasterYou didn't really read it, did you?
Ok, here's my battle system idea for the next Final Fantasy,
Open the world up 30000x, and get rid of the futuristic guns/sword mix thing. Its gotten really tired. I miss the original final fantasy's with the traditional classes, the medieval setting, the open map. I want to go on an adventure, not get dragged along a path.
