What's a game everyone seems to love, but you just can't get into?

I've been thinking about popular games that just don't click for me, no matter how much I try. For instance, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. I know it's critically acclaimed and loved by millions, but I can't seem to get into it. I've tried multiple times, but the combat feels clunky to me, and I find the story pacing a bit slow. The world is beautiful, sure, but I just can't connect with Geralt or get invested in the quests. I feel like I'm missing out on something great, but it just doesn't grab me. Maybe it's the RPG elements or the fantasy setting - I'm not sure. What about you? Is there a universally loved PC game that you just can't get into, no matter how hard you try? What do you think keeps you from enjoying it? I'm curious to hear your experiences!

Pokemon Violet/Scarlet. Pokemon fans are among the most passionate fans in all of gaming, in my opinion, but it didn't work for me. I completed Scarlet and it's a disaster. The combat is just as great as it's always been, but there are blemishes that are impossible to ignore. The story is paper thin, the frame rate constantly hiccups, the gym challenges are a waste of time and the environments look uninspired. It hurts me to say that because I'm a fan of Pokemon. In fact, Pokemon X/Y is my favourite JRPG of all time.

Some might say "but drac, Pokemon has never had a good story", but that's not true. Pokemon Black/White had a meaningful story; it's about a group of activists trying to prevent people from possessing Pokemon. That game is proof that a deep story in a Pokemon game can work, as long as the right amount of effort is put into it.

The persona games.

At least persona 4. I tried to like that game so much.

But the social interactions are so mundane. I felt like I could just be talking to my neighbors instead of playing a game.

Quite a few. But instead of listing a bunch of Ubisoft, Acitivion, CDPR, & Rockstar games. I'll just focus on Bioware_

Until I tried Mass Effect couldn't for the life of me understand why anyone gave Bioware a pass. Played two Dragon Age games and Anthem; they're all terrible. Bioware doesn't understand how to make a game fun to play. Just seems like they throw tedious ideas, borrow from MMO's biggest flaws and slap them into a Single-Player game. And when they do make a Multiplayer Game.. it's a broken Monster Hunter knock-off but with jetpacks.

Played ME and I like the first two, they're very flawed games with so-so combat. However the flexibility and branching paths is very impressive. ME is an example of Bioware (likely at the time) understanding what they don't do well and priorities what they do well, double downing on making that enjoyable for the player.

The three I listed hating all seem like games that never got tested, and if they did? Bioware ignored the feedback.

Overall I find a lot of these American publishers of the 2000's focus more on setpieces and graphics; Hollywood popcorn flick storytelling for the dumb & simple who like shiny thing. Over fun replayable-gameplay.

Fast-forward today and it's sadly even worse. Rockstar make the lovely GTA Trilogy that looks like sin. Ubisoft continue to misunderstand the gaming audience, and Blizzard wants all your money for the mediocre received Diablo IV & OW2.

I mean the one that I've talked about on here since time immemorial is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, since the 3D engine just brought way too many changes to the feel of the gameplay with it, but that's really just the tip of the iceberg.

Survival Horror in general got off on the wrong foot with me, largely because I didn't understand what Resident Evil was actually trying to do at first. Never circled back for another attempt because I'd be lying if I claimed that what it was actually trying to do interested me.

I've just about given up hope on ever truly appreciating Marvel vs Capcom 2 because my hands just won't Do The Thing (TM) at the pace that game expects of me.

I really want to like the Tales series, but while I was first starting out with it, I dropped an attack string in the middle so I could move out of the way of an attack the enemy was clearly winding up for, ran all the way across the arena, and still got hit. Never picked it up again. I've recounted this story several times in the past and no one has ever been able to explain the battle system to me. If what you see isn't what you get in an action-based battle system, though, why not just throw the whole thing out and make the game turn-based?

It seems that everyone is enthusiastic about Cyberpunk 2077, but I was never able to immerse myself in this world. It is undoubtedly ambitious and has great potential, but for me there were problems with technical stability and unexpected gameplay depth. Maybe I'll try it again over time, but for now it remains my 'unplayable' game.

I agree with you, The Witcher series. Boring. And I really did give it a fair shot.
