Hey everyone,

Just curious — have you ever picked up a game thinking it wouldn’t be your thing, but ended up absolutely loving it?

For me, it was Slay the Spire. I’m usually into fast-paced action games, and turn-based stuff never really caught my eye. But a friend convinced me to give it a try and man… I was hooked within a few runs. Ended up sinking way more hours into it than I expected.

Would love to hear your “surprise favorites” too. Could be from any genre or platform.

Honestly getting Megaman Legends and gex enter the gecko on my 8th Christmas ,let alone those being the first games I've got for the playstation was a bit of a shock.those were pretty good actually but would have preferred spyro as starter. I can remember the reason my parents got them that day "because the characters looked cool"

Kirby and the Forgotten Land. I thought the demo that was released before the game launched was way too easy. I'm glad I decided to buy it though, because I ended up loving the game. It's not too easy.

Mass Effect 1 & 2.

Played the more recent Bioware slop and consider them some of the most poorly designed games I've ever played. They're not downright bad games, they're just overly streamlined and have questionable systems that hinder any enjoyment.

ME1 & 2 was a nice change of pace, was very hesitant to play them but glad I took the plunge and gave them a go.

Total War: Empire

At first the game confused me, but then I realized if I unite Germany with Prussia I could afford a fleet with the best ships.

I recently bought Total War Romance of the Three Kingdom and it scored highly but I don’t get it. Hopefully the game gets better from the initial start.
