@ojmstr

It almost sounds as if you're saying "Both games have gameplay, therefore they can be compared"

anyway, You're more than welcome to compare whatever concepts they have in common but they are still entirely different games. Infact the one single thing they don't have in common is what makes them incomparable.

@Lulu_Lulu: So what your saying is that we can not compare graphics, not compare voice acting, not compare the story, not compare the animations, not compare thr shooting mechanics from the 3rd person perspective, not comparing pvp multiplayer? Why can we not compare these aspects from these two 3rd person story driven and multiplayer shooters?

Well, if we do compare all these aspects i mentioned then it's really not that hard to understand why The Last Of Us recieved over 200 Game of the year awards

last year which was the same year GTA5 came out.

@Jacanuk: Seems like you are the only one who is taking this a bit personally.

You can compare the two games, both games are 3rd person shooters, both have a story mode and both have online multiplayer. They have in fact more in common than they don't have in common so i agree on what Mikehockbourns says " both games aren't that much different" what mostly sets them apart generally speaking is that Gta is open world and tlou is not. Can still compare the 3rd person aspect of it, the gameplay, animations, graphics, story, voice acting, multiplayer etc...

So what you are saying is basically

A tree is living

I am Living

Therefore i am a Tree

You are trying to compare a game which is all about the story to a game that is all about the gameplay. But i know you love The Last of Us but how many did it sell? compared to GTA V if you really want to go that way.

@Jacanuk: Yeah sure, let's go that way:) Tlou is Sony exclucive and GTA5 is crossplatform so obviously it will sell more. Btw can you please go into spesifics and explain why the gameplay in GTA5 mp is so much better than Tlou mp? Is it just more fun or is it really a more solid and better game with more depth to gameplay? Please explain why?

You want 1?

VgX GOTY - GTA V

EDGE GOTY - GTA V

Gamepro GOTY - GTA V

Games GOTY - COD Call of Dogs

GamesTM GOTY - GTA V

Gamerankings GOTY - GTA V

Metacritic GOTY - GTA V (This is given to the game with the highest metacritic score)

You hopefully get the point or you want me to continue? And again this is getting ridiculous, no one can disagree that TlOU isn't a great story but besides that it doesn't have a lot going for it and doesnt even come close to GTA 3 or IV let alone V.

Also i know the amount TLOU have gottten as GOTY so in that sense they are equally matched.

Also as to the multiplatform comment, well GTA V sold 32 meaning it sold avg 16 mill on each console, again remind me on how much TLOU sold?

No i don`t get your point:) what is your point exactly?

Btw those sales figures don`t mean anything in this case, if you don`t understand why i`ll be happy to explain it to you if you like but right now i don`t have the time so i`ll gonna have to get back to this thread later.

maybe I was a little hard on gta 5, its better than I initially thought and once they add heists to the multiplayer I'm sure I will get more out of it. they both are great games in their own ways, anyways I decided to keep both because I really do feel they both are must haves.

by the way, how do I get into a multiplayer game where its free-aim? i hate the auto aim.

Jacanuk, here is why im having this debate with you

The Last of Us has 1 playthrough of 6-10hours and once that is over, the game is done.

People mostly complain about its the gameplay mechanics so since that goes again in the MP, the MP is definitely not noteworthy and particular good.

All im doing is proving you wrong, TLOU has tons of replay value and the MP is in fact really really good.

Here are some random mp videos i found on youtube of both games so people who havn`t played both games can make up their own minds about the gameplay.

I dont need to watch any videos, i have both games and have played both games and you have not even come close to prove me wrong. Also strange you didn´t take the GTA V ´s hunting, racing, biking, planes, choppers, boats, or the heists or any number of other things because GTA isent just about killing the other players.

What you however did was flog your youtube crap like all the other who think they can become the next swedish muppet or some pretend brit who now lives in murica.

I get that you like Last of Us and its multiplayer and thats great, but again you cannot even begin to compare the two games On one side you have GTA V an open world game, made with focus on open world and then you have a story game focused on being a story game. And that was my point, i never said GTA V was better than The Last of Us, they are both great games and i think both games´s rewards and sales numbers show that the people like them both, so what i said was that if you look at the games in the only area you can even begin to compare the two, playability, GTA V wins on its many various things to do both alone in single player and in GTA online. So where The Last of Us on a good day with you being a snail can give you a single player campaign that is at the most 15-18 hours long if you really draw it out, GTA V even alone can be fun 90 hours down the road.

@Jacanuk: It seems you havn't played to much of mp in The Last of us though. I didn't mention hunting because you know i have the last of us for that;) (hussh no spoilers) hunting is usually boring in videogames anyways, racing, there are tons of racing games out there, just got The Crew today, why should i race in gta when i can play a racing game that is actually a racing game and 10 times better than racing in gta?, same goes for planes choppers and boats, there are games that do this way better than gta so why waste time playing something halfgood? Just because, "well you know... i can do aaall these thing in ONE game" wooow" not!... So what you have left is heist which is really fun btw and yeah thats basicly it, and a shit loads of boring sidequests and a main story that is not that good, on a sidenote though, it's amazing that they could pull of all these gamemodes in one open world game, ill give them that, it really is but the truth is , each of these gamemodes in gta are not even half as good as the games that are actually focusing on these types of games, driving games, tennis lol shooters, etc... hope you got my point now? Or do i have to spoonfeed you with info regarding this? :) i think i just did that anyways so now i hope you will understand that Tlou's mp shooter is a beast compared to gta5 mp shooter. End of story.

The only forced QTEs I can remember right now are when you are being pushed against a glass shard and when you're trying to clear a door to open it.

It is kinda sweet that you think your subjective opinion is anything but subjective and an opinion. Not to mention that GTA has never tried to be a jack of all trades, not to mention that saying that Tlou mp is superior to GTA V is just insane.

But lets end this discussion because this is not system wars and also its kinda obvious that you particular would be one to defend and try to make The Last Of Us into something it is and never will be.

Oh, lets finish on this........

TLOU sales 7.6million

GTA V sales 34 mill on 2 platforms Xbox360 and Ps3 making it avg. 17mill on each console

I know sales doesn't always imply superior quality, but in this case i think it speaks for itself.

Just got the bundle, which is the better game? Thhinking of giving away 1 as a xmas gift.

Amazing gaming experience, great story, TLOU hands down.

I finished GTA V on PS3 in a week and never played it again. To me id didnt feel like the classics, those i played and finished many times. Even finished GTA IV and Mafia 2 twice. I also felt signature GTA story and single player were let down by incorporating resources into online.

R should just do separate open world online game and bring good old GTA back. Hope next Saints Row continues GTA tradition of pure fan with extra madness.

SR 2 continued where San Andreas left of for me :)

how can someone compare an established, household name title with a brand new IP that most people don't know about.

TLOU sales are actually more impressive for me than the GTA sales. A brand new game being good enough for 8 million people to take a chance on? Speaks volumes.

The QTEs are nothing.... Its the boring scavenging for resources that made the game tedious to play, that plus the enemies are swing or miss.

GTA5 is outrageously, unmatched pure fun..... for the first half of the campaign. After that, it a painfully unfortunate spiral downward.

TLOU is the overall better game. Of course it is shorter (15 hours, approximately) and isn't open world, but it has a story that is impactful and will stick to you. It has tight gameplay (the combat is brutal and the stealth is stressful, in the best possible way) with well-designed mechanics (good crafting, etc.), and is just a much more balanced and more well-rounded game as a whole.

i've played none of these. But if i had to pick one to play, i'd choose GTA5, because of its varied and non linear gameplay and the fact its multiplatform, so its available to all.

Last of Us looks too linear, scripted and story driven and i doubt i'd have fun with it since i've played games like this before and after finishing them i never go back to them.

Being grabbed by an enemy is not a forced QTE, also suggest an alternative to it. The others were done in what? 5 seconds each? how much of a whiner do you have to be to say you didnt enjoyed a game because of that?

i'm not sure why you're getting your panties in a twist so much over this.

the facts -

1. there are dozens of quick time events in the last of us, not under ten.

2. i'm perfectly entitled to use them as a reason as to why i preferred the gameplay in gta v over the last of us.

3. i didn't say i didn't enjoy the game because of them. i said i didn't care for the gameplay that much. learn to read

If you can only afford 1 game for a while, and you're going to fill up your free time with as much value as possible, GTA5 is the clear winner.

But if you're not on such a constrained budget, and especially if you've played any of the previous GTAs, then maybe give The Last of Us a try. There really is a reason so many people talk about it, and even though it was a short game, I'm definitely not sorry I played such a wonderful game.
