Opinions vary,so let's try and define that.

NOTHING from modern day, your looking at games from the mid 80's some of those were stupidly hard if not impossible.
darksouls had a fairness in being hard.
now games that were hard that i can remember
splatterhouse 1,2,3
contra 3 alien wars
mortal kombat trilogy
I played one of those top down flying shooters - Gunbird - where all the bullets spray everywhere, a few of those sort of games seem to be on the edge of impossible if they have a high difficulty scale.
[QUOTE="Lostboy1224"]The Game of Life!brucecambell
Agreed. The Game of Life is the hardest game of them all
Aw man I just lost the game :(
Battletoads.
I could list Harder games, but they were harder due to either a poor control scheme, or incredibly unfair deaths, I atleast feel like Battletoads gave you the possability to survive, but itwas still ballbreakingly hard (yeah you all know what Im talking about, those jetbikes ugh)
I had trouble with a lot of 8-bit and 16-bit games. Micro Machines was extremely difficult at the later levels.
F-Zero GX.The hardest game I have ever played, and it's actually fair.It takes skill to complete the story missions at the harder difficulties, and it's so rewarding. One of my favourite racing games of all time :).
Ninja Gaiden III on NES. The first 2 were tough, but the third you only get 5 continues? That's sadistic, Tecmo.
Ghosts 'n Goblins for the NES by far. The game threw kitchen sinks at you at every turn. 2 hits and you're dead, widely spaced out checkpoints, losing all your lives meant starting at the beginning of the level, endlessly spawning enemies, platforming segments that regularly forced you to make blind jumps, a brutally short time limit to finish levels, and NO password or save game feature. If you turned the game off, you had to start the entire game over again. Oh and if that wasn't sadistic enough, when you "beat" the game you didn't actually beat it. You had to play through the entire game again, and it was somehow HARDER than the first time.

Forgot about that one. That game was impossible!

Out of all the times I played "Battletoads," I've only made it past the 3rd level- the one with the jetbikes- twice! Yes, I DID! The first time was when I "found" the warp near the end. The second time was when I actually made it to the end. I was so shocked that I died and got a "Game Over" after starting the 4th level.
Dark/Demon's Souls.tjricardo089No. There are only two kinds of people who find the games hard: 1. Those without hands. 2. Those without the patience to learn enemy patterns, block/parry or just take their time moving through levels, rather than going Call of Duty on everything (which I am learning a very humbling lesson right now as a Wanderer and trying to blast through the early levels due to a false sense of familiarity and skill).
