Story and presentation. It was sexy looking. The FF before that was 2-D and we were living in a world where 3-D graphics hadnt really been explored in RPGs. Its story and chars were not only great in visual presentaion but were devloped good as well. They were really human. There were a lot of games were the story was very good but this helped make strong stories in game more importaint and popular. Add that too a fun but not really new active battle system boom you have a classic
I dont have a FF7 since I think FF7 is one of the most overrated games of all time.

I couldn't agree more.
Pretty much everyone who says final fantasy 7 is overrated falls into 2 categories: 1. Never played the game to begin with 2. Was way too young (or not even born) when the game came out, and only played it many years later when its age started to showUT_WrestlerNo I actually played VII, it is overrated, especially compared to VI............I was actually disappointed in VII's story when it first came out by the way.
Kefka is far better than Sephiroth...why? Because he was the greater threat as well as his crimes bring a greater emotional impact. Kefka, while his motives are quite crazy, are clear. Sephiroth's may be more complex, but in the end, he feels less threatening. Creative antagonists doesn't mean better antagonists. Kefka is actually the central character in FFVI (NOT Terra!!!!)....he has ties to almost every major character and event in the game (he especially hates Celes). He is also the center of most of the events in the game and even in the WoR, where he is not seen until the end, he is still central. Sephiroth is not central in VII, and he is not the only villain. By that Kefka is far superior. Kefka is like the Joker or an Anton Chigurh or the Judge (Blood Meridian), someone who doesn't need depth or complexity to be an effective villain. He is just crazy and evil....goes by his code that only he understands.....and some people in the real world are like this. Simple but freigthening. Doubt their effectiveness???? The last two supporting actor Oscarswent to actors who played Chigurh and the Joker.
