i was just listening to Final Fantasy X music and just got reminded of how amazing it really was,(enough to maybe start it again) when i just thought about how final fantasy seven was legendary for its amazing story, top of the line graphics, and memorable characters. Alot of gamers that didnt experience final fantasy 7 in its beginning dont really feel the attachment to it that other people do that played it years prior. I have played final fantasy seven, but only recently( about 2 years ago) and, although i see why it was praised by so many, to me it didnt have the feeling FFX gave me. So whats YOUR Final Fantasy Seven??????

Story and presentation. It was sexy looking. The FF before that was 2-D and we were living in a world where 3-D graphics hadnt really been explored in RPGs. Its story and chars were not only great in visual presentaion but were devloped good as well. They were really human. There were a lot of games were the story was very good but this helped make strong stories in game more importaint and popular. Add that too a fun but not really new active battle system boom you have a classic

So I'm taking that the intent of this thread is to state what your favorite Final Fantasy game is? For me, it's Final Fantasy VIII. It had it all. Graphics, presentation, story, gameplay.

My FF7 is FF7 hah. Great game. TBH - I really liked the music in ff7 also, but you make a great point, FF10 had great music. Orchestration was fantastic.

the point of this thread is not to say what your favorite Final fantasy game is, but to say what game had an long-lasting effect on you, that even when you do something as simple as listen to its music, you remember several things about it.

The best final fantasy game available is FFVI. Great cast of characters, epic storyline, and the most badass villain. Sure it does not compare to the graphics of later installments but graphics do not make a game great, just pretty :)

Pretty much everyone who says final fantasy 7 is overrated falls into 2 categories: 1. Never played the game to begin with 2. Was way too young (or not even born) when the game came out, and only played it many years later when its age started to show

No I actually played VII, it is overrated, especially compared to VI............I was actually disappointed in VII's story when it first came out by the way.

Both the Pokemon games and FFX gave me that fascination as a younger kid that I don't think I'll ever recapture in a game again.

I played FF7 when it came out and at that time I would definately say that it was overrated. Nowadays I don't think it's overrated anymore, the game gets so much outright hate that you could argue it's underrated now. Personally I think that FF7 was the most epic game that I've ever played and that Sephiroth is the greatest villan in any video game, and I stand by those words. Before anyone says anything, yes, the fact that he had an Oedipus complex is part of what makes him an interesting villan, in fact the whole symbiotic relationship he has with Jenova and the fact that it's difficult to tell who's really leading/controling who is the reason I see him as a far more creative antagonist then, for instance, Kefka and his outright psychopathicness. I've also never understood why Cloud is supposedly 'emo', given that he spends most of his time being unemotional and rarely complains about his lot in life despite having undergone severe psychological trauma to the point that he loses his own identity. Now, having said all that, FF7 was far far away from being anywhere near the 'greatest game of all time'. The gameplay was far to linear, restrictive, skilless and repetitive for it to come close to my top ten list, so while I found the game to be very memorable I found that it never 'evolved' into something as deep as I expected it to.

Kefka is far better than Sephiroth...why? Because he was the greater threat as well as his crimes bring a greater emotional impact. Kefka, while his motives are quite crazy, are clear. Sephiroth's may be more complex, but in the end, he feels less threatening. Creative antagonists doesn't mean better antagonists. Kefka is actually the central character in FFVI (NOT Terra!!!!)....he has ties to almost every major character and event in the game (he especially hates Celes). He is also the center of most of the events in the game and even in the WoR, where he is not seen until the end, he is still central. Sephiroth is not central in VII, and he is not the only villain. By that Kefka is far superior. Kefka is like the Joker or an Anton Chigurh or the Judge (Blood Meridian), someone who doesn't need depth or complexity to be an effective villain. He is just crazy and evil....goes by his code that only he understands.....and some people in the real world are like this. Simple but freigthening. Doubt their effectiveness???? The last two supporting actor Oscarswent to actors who played Chigurh and the Joker.
