there have been many sad moments in gaming history...we all have our favorites, but mine is pretty easy to decide on:

COD4 *Spolier*

To me the single saddest/memorable moment in gaming, is when the nuke goes off killing all of the marines in its' path...the sequence of the bomb going off, and then watching all of the helicopters drop from the sky was pulled off amazingly well by IW...then afterwards taking control of Sgt. Jackson, and trying to climb from the wreckage to safety, to only do so in failure is easily the saddest moment in gaming for me...

so what are you saddest/emotional moments in gaming?

Either when Sephiroth kills Aerith, or when Tidus fades away at the end of ffx

Zack dying in crisis core was pretty sad too

ha, saw the user name for the response and knew what you were going to say....of all those three, to me Zack dying was the most sad...while it was crazy to see the sword go through Aerith, I just didn't feel as attached as Zack...I never really liked Tidus in FFX, so was kind of glad he faded....but the way that Zack went out, along with his growth through Crisis Core and everything he went to through...the ending nearly brought a tear to me eye

The nuke sceen from Call of Duty 4 is an excellent one.

For me it would be the end of Dreamfall. Partly because it was a cliffhanger and all three main characters are in a bad spot and partly because it will be years before we find out what happens next.

When Andrew Ryan Killed himself, seriously, he was devoted to his cause and was not truly evil just really paranoid, and rightfully so, after what Atlas did to him. If you don't agree with that, when you learn that Boss in Mgs3 was not really a traitor in the end.

when gaz died in COD4. He was the coolest character in the game and zakhaev shoots him in the back of the head with no remorse.

the ending to kingdom hearts, when sora painfully attempts to reunite with his lost friends riku and kairi, only to come within inches of reunion and have it all stripped away. The scene where kairi is looking at the wall paintings they drew as kids with the music in the background is quite touching i think.

The nuke scene in COD4 like some said is pretty sad. For me in COD4 though it was the end on the bridge seeing your buddies executed through blurry vision was pretty bad. I also was very saddened at the end of ghost recon 2 when you think you made it out of the bunker youre exiting it then bam. Then the generals words for some reason just hit me.

Aaah another edit World in Conflict is pretty saddening at times for sure more then one you just feel beaten and broken.

I guess it goes to show war has nothign to do with fun and games in the real world and these scenes remind you of that.

The death scene near the end of Disc 1 of Lost Odyssey. And also it's short-stories.

All of Shadow Of The Colossus. The entire game touched me in ways interactive media had failed to do before, and since. All without a single signifigant expression of narrative.

The experience spoke for itself. As powerful as experience as I've had ever, movies included. I suppose my reaction may have been what many have experienced, but have failed to express.. Simply one of the most unique experiences I've had in gaming.

When I made myself play through an hour of FF7, because I actually spent like $40 on that pile of cat feces.

Good god.

When Arieth dies at the end of FF7. The thing that made it so sad for me was that she never really knew who Cloud was because he was bascially acting like Zach the entire time. But right before she died she was finally getting to know who the real Cloud was, and right when it looked like they would be together through the game she dies.

that would probably be my 2nd or 3rd saddest moment...I think the song simple and clean added to the emotional value of the scene as well.
