Metro 2033 here too. Especially when climbing the tower. Paused for more than 5 minutes and just stared at the post-apocalyptic Moscow. It was a beautiful, sad, emotional, extremely atmospheric and cold scenery.
I recently picked up Valkyria Chronicles II for PSP. In less than a week, I had put in 40 hours. Every aspect of the game is interesting and well refined. The story is great, and every character is multi-sided, and interesting. Even the annoying ones add something to the story. It's the first game to really blow me away in quite a while.
I guess I'm easy to amaze, at least if I understand the word right xD I put over 20 hours in DW: Gundam 3 (I had almost a week free to compensate my hours I worked to much) in just a few days because I love it so much :)
cod4, the first mission blew me away at the time.Overlord93That game really was a masterpiece. But I have to say, there are lots of fantastic games I've played recently, but few that REALLY amazed me, like God of War 3, Uncharted 2, Demon's Souls, Killzone 3. However if I had to pick one it would be Uncharted 2, I hadn't been so amazed by a game since RE4.
Lot of good games this gen..Dragon age origins pc..Bioshock pc. fallout 3, crysis, alpha protocol ya im putting this in there, because it was a fun amazing game even with the glitches very underatted, mass effect 1 and 2, red dead redemption one of the best games ive played in awhile. alan wake good story - game play. there are just so many this gen that where fun an yet there is still time skyrimm is do up soon along with batman ya another good game..
I haven't been "amazed" but it was more like "wow that looks cool," moments. When I first walked into Ashenvale forest playing WOW beta I thought it looked really nice and couldn't wait to kill some elves and burn it all down.
The first game to really give me the "amaze" factor was Strider for the Sega Genesis. I remember playing it with a friend at the time not even really knowing if what we're doing is correct or where to go and slashing everything then going into this crazy room with no gravity and living through it all.
Ah Volchcha your back! Welcome back. I agree about okami and its backlog on DS "Okamiden" Both have amazing graphics and storylines. That I played recently?Okami.
The music, atmosphere, bosses, dungeons, story, dialogue, graphics, EVERYTHING it was a PERFECT 10.
Game of the year all years.
volchcha
Portal 2. I was just amazed at all the new puzzle solving elements and just how fun the entire game was.
The most recent example of a game that amazed me has to be Mount and Blade Warband and Eve Online. The first because it didn't seem to deliver at first glance untill I played it and realised how incredibly awesome it is to lead your own army into battle. The latter because I didn't think an MMO like that was even possible. The sheer depth and freedom and size of the game simply amaze me. The true definition of a sandbox mmo imo :)
If you're talking about games that hooked me, then LA Noire was the most recent. Two solid weeks of talking to operators in a snappy three-piece suit before I finished the game; bliss.
Actual, genuine amazement however? I'm tempted to say Shadow of the Collossus, but that seems too long ago. Surely something else amazed me during that time?
Sadly, I'm going to have to go mainstream and say FIFA 11. Not necessarily the game itself, but what happens during the game. Most recently I was playing Career Mode with my brother. J De Guzman, Dutch winger, was lining up a freekick from 40 yards out. We were already two goals up, so I thought I'd take a chance. Three-thirds power, lots of curve... damn thing slammed into the top corner to make it three nil!
The last time I was amazed by a game is probably when I got to Mexico in Red Dead Redemption and you're riding into the sunset with that song playing. I was just amazed by the game up to that point and knew so much more was to come in a new land. Just an amazing feeling.
The first time I was ever amazed by a game this gen though would be Assassin's Creed. When you are first approaching Jerusalem or whatever city you have to go to first and you crest that hill to see the city spread out beneath you.
I've played some pretty awesome games this year, but the last game that truly amazed me was LittleBigPlanet 2. No disrespect to Mass Effect 1 and 2, but LBP2 had that certain charm and the ability to constantly surprise you. I felt like i was playing a different game from level to level.
God of War 3, Heavy Rain and Halo 3 left my jaw on the floor several times as well.
Mass effect one really impressed me. And so did the latest Mortal kombat. Hell I loved that game so much that I bought the special edition version.
